How to change rear shock absorber on BMW 330i 3 (E92) 3.0 Coupe 01.2005-12.2013 [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]
Shock absorber on BMW 1 Hatchback (E81) (09.2006 - 12.2011) / BMW 1 Coupe (E82) (10.2006 - 10.2013) / BMW 3 Touring (E91) (12.2004 - 06.2012) / BMW 3 Saloon (E90) (06.2004 - 12.2011) / BMW 3 Convertible (E93) (05.2006 - 12.2013) cars should be replaced, as a rule, according to one and the same procedure.

Is it required to push up the "wheel" when unscrewing shock absorber or it can be done without pushing it up?' I am talking about 03:06 part.

Thank you for your comment! The "wheel" should be definitely lift up a little bit and fixed, otherwise the spring may fly out when the shock absorber is unscrewed and it is very unsafe. Stay tuned our latest updates. Best regards, Autodoc.

I cannot loosen the top screw before lifting the car up. I don’t want to mess up the bolt as I’m using an adjustable spanner!

In general, the replacement will be similar, the only thing that may be slightly different is the design features of your particular model of car. More detailed information can be found in the technical documentation for repairing your car.

Hello..how did you compress the spring? I am going to do this on my bmw e92 328xi and was wondering if I could just you the jack to compress the spring..any suggestions?

rear shocks not under compression like the fronts

Torqued the bottom shock nut to 80nm and around 50nm the bottom of the shock snapped off. Too much torque. stock KYB shocks

the bottom shock mount looked like it needed replacing and considering how inexpensive it is I would always swap at the same time. Also a solvent based product like WD40 spray onto perished rubber is a silly idea and not going to do it any good……

5:50 - This should be tightened to 38Nm! You'll snap off the thread of your new shock if you tighten it to 80Nm!!!

This might be the only thing i seriously hate about bmw’s To fix something you have to dismantle half a car. It takes more time to remove and reinstall all the covers than fixing the issue

i used a clamp with someone else holding on tight but they are really hard to get off- assume you figured it out since your comment was ages ago?

there is a 15mm counter hold a little further up, hold a spanner on that and it will go without spinning. No idea how it worked in this video without him holding that
