I know this is an older video but PLEASE anybody that will be working on a push mower from the bottom near the blade. UNPLUG-DISCONNECT the sparkplug. I actually had a mower fire and try to start when I turned the blade when I was replacing it. This was back in the late 70s but I will never forget it.
Good advise... I always do that. The pull handle that you pull down to start the mower is supposed to stop that, but there's always a chance it might not work right... 😊
I picked up a roadside TB240 on trash day and cleaned the carb to get it running. While replacing the beat-up blade I pulled the bottom cover to check the belt and was happy to see it was in fair shape because I couldn't figure out how the heck to replace it. Well, everything is easy if you know how and you definitely do. Now I do too. Thanks!
That's a great find! I've actually got a video coming out soon on the TB200 belt replacement. It should be very similar should you ever need to replace..
"Great video" ... My belt came off today .. I was going to carry it to a shop tomorrow ... This video went thru all the steps to make the repair . Went thru the same steps ... Went back together very well ... I was surprised ?
Hey Man, many thanks for the vid. Had paid a repair shop to do some other work and he screwed up the drive. I followed your instructions and it worked first time. I'll recommend you to my repair shop. He could use some instructions.
This was so much more helpful than a previous view! That one had me take off the whole front assembly and nothing about the belt guard thereby needing another repair. Thanks.
I don't know the model, but yes it's a Milwaukee 1/4" impact. The Dewalt one works good as well. Other than that, just sockets and basic tools like that.
Yea I like to work on a table. I'm old, so the less bending over the better! LOL... If you have one of those fold out plastic tables with the metal legs, they make a good work bench! Just chalk the wheels so it doesn't roll off the side... :-)
Thanks... it is all good.. and was easy... but I noticed I need a new cover that goes behind the blade... hopefully Lowes can get me one...but the belt went on perfectly... Thanks... good job on my 7 year old Troybilt... PS...I'm a girl ha ha
Sherry Stauver Excellent... glad I could help... if u have your model number you can plug it into partstree.com and get the part number.... a lot of times I'll buy parts on Amazon... should be cheaper than Lowes ... hope this helps... thanks again
HI.. I don't have this mower any longer to get the model number off of it. If you go to www.partstree.com and plug in your model number, you'll be able to get the parts breakdown.
Awesome video, thanks for making it simple and easy to repair my mower. One thing... you might want to remind everyone to disconnect their spark plug before beginning....kind of important. Cheers.
One more thing, for us older guys. A helpful tip (after disconnecting the spark plug of course) if you're alone and have no one to help you lift the mower on to a table is to back the handle bars up to the table. Now you're facing the engine... just lift up from under the front wheels while sliding the length of the frame along the table or bench until the back wheels touch the table... then lift even higher until you clear the back wheels and there you have it your mower is on the table where you can fasten it or whatever you need to do to it. You could make a video on this, it would take all of 30 sec or a minute to demonstrate. Also do the same in reverse to return your mower back to the ground. Take a Bath Productions, you're a good explanificator... you might try a few close up shots here and there for better detail, some people benefit from that.
HI William, that's a great idea.. "Us older guys" applies to me too! I appreciate the advice. Yes disconnecting the spark plug is a wise precaution. Normally the engine brake will keep any inadvertent starting of the engine possible, but disconnecting the plug will eliminate the possibility by 100%... :-) I will consider the method and idea you have for a video, sounds like a great idea. I have a electric lift connected, buy most people don't...
Thank you for the step by step instructions. It's videos like this that we need more of. All these Other people can't do these videos to save their life. And miss most important steps like the part that holds that belt on.
Great video. Remember to take out the spark plug first and I used a vise grip on the side of the deck to stop / hold the blade when unbolting it. Thanks!!!! I love You Tube help videos. I have saved thousands over the years.
Yes it's a good idea to take out the spark plug, or at least to pull the wire. I normally use an impact so no need to stop/hold the blade.. You're welcome! Thanks for the comment.. :-)
HI, that style of mower is considered a push mower whether it's self propelled or not.. 😊. Of course it might matter what part of the country you're standing in! The terminology might be different.. 😂
Put all bolts back and cut grass without drive. Tried again one week later and cover almost fell out on its own. Can't explain why, . It is fixed and video did help a lot. Thanks.
Look where the carburetor is,.. there's usually a tab with a spring.. if you pull on that spring while the engine is running, you can hear the engine change RPM.. be careful while you're doing this and don't touch any moving parts!.. You should be able to bend that tab to slow the engine down..
Sometimes they might get stuck due to rust or whatever. You might need a puller of some kind if you can't get it off with a light tap or by hand.. You could try spraying some PB Blaster around the crankshaft to see if it'll help.
I plan to call them tomorrow. They told me to turn it on it's side to see if I can tell if the belt is loose or broken and to check the cable. Well I can't see the belt for the cover and I couldn't find the cable but I did tighten it up with the control wheel. Also saw gas running out of the side of the mower. Gas cap was tight.
michael tipton the gas running out is normal if it's on its side... they aren't leak proof.... as far as the belt... yea u might have to take the cover off... but if it didn't work out of the box... I don't see why u have to do anything... I'd just return it
Just an update. My mower was repair today. Took a month. Troybilt wouldn't cover the cost of the repair even though it never worked right. It's going to cost me $90.00 ($40.00 for pick up and delivery)
