Hi, I'm James and I'm going to show you how to change the trimmer line on a Ryobi whipper snipper, so it goes from this to this.
Now the first thing you need is to remember that you either need scissors or a knife and some 2.4-millimetre trimmer line and you don't have to open the packet, they conveniently leave a little thing at the back, you want to get to arms lengths, like this.
And then you simply just chop it off. At that point, you don't need to worry about it being too neat or anything at this point because you need to take the head off.
So to get the head off, you depress this button in this button at the same time. But remember that it's spring loaded, so sort of got to take the tension from the spring as you push it off, or it will explode.
Now this bit is actually made of three parts, there's the outer shell, then this green bit comes off the black, but you don't need to take it off. It's only if this needs replacing. But we'll just take that out. And obviously put that in the bin.
These pieces of equipment are free to borrow from my office, the Walter Taylor Ward Office. So give us a call if you need it.
But if you don't know how to replace the line, that's okay, we can do it for you. If you do appreciate it, if you could.
Now, I'll just show you there, can you see that there's a little hole there. And there's another one that side obviously. And it's got a one way stopper so the line can move that way, but it can't move back this way. Hopefully, you can see that.
You hold the black bit in your hand with the green bit in your palm, so it doesn't come off. And the idea here is to hold the two ends, sort of like that between your fingers, and you just pull it through the black bit, so it gets to about halfway.
And you don't want too much line into your canister. Because if you have much more than this, it's not going to fit. And that means that you have to do it out really really tightly and it will get jammed in. So when you go to try and depress this and get the line trimmer or the line to come out it there just won't be any free movement, and it will just get jammed in there.
Now the next step is to take the line between your fingers and turn it if you can see this, you turn it the way of the plastic lets it go. And you just turn it like that and keep them next to each other. You want to get good tension on it, but not make it too tight. Because again, if it's too tight, it won't come out when you need it to.
What I'm going to do is hold it so you can see here. And that just feeds through one hole. See I've got my finger on the cord at the same time books, very twisty. So that one can go through there. And then obviously, we need to get the other one through the opposite hole without having them all pop out everywhere.
Okay, yeah, this is the hard bit you need to wind it up. So it's going to go in there without letting too much code twist. Because if the cable gets stuck, you can see it's getting stuck there. And if it does that, it won't turn freely. So give that a yank. See I just pulled that through to loosen it off.
Now these aren't equal but I can fix that for you. And you can see that that's moving quite freely up and down, which means the chords not stuck. Right now that's still got a bit of spring in it so don't let it go. Keep a bit of tension on it. And what you want to do here of course is line this hole up with that lug both sides.
You just line it up like that. And that's it.
What we're going to do is, you can see that one is longer than the other, it's not a big deal. This here is a blade, and that blade will chop it off at the right length. So I'll just show you what will happen. And of course, we want to make sure that whenever we do this, we test it and replace the unused wire. If I kept doing that, it all you'll see there cut through it and then we just pick it up and put that in the middle. And that is how you change the trimmer line on a Ryobi whipper snipper.
