What made me happy today was getting to play a virtual violin concert for my grandparents over Skype! I haven’t seen them since February, and their smiles made my day 🥰❤️✨
What made be happy today is the beauty of the little things. After 3 months of quarantine in Milan, now I am in the countryside with my family and today it was a simple day that I spent with my little cousins (which I hadn’t seen since Christmas) and I studied a bit and played the violin. This was a simple day which reminded how important it is to appreciate the little things we have in life.
I've been changing strings every few months for more years than I care to think about but still found this tutorial really helpful. Here's a couple of further comments that I hope will be useful. (1) New strings take a few days to stretch out, which makes it difficult to tune four new strings all at once. Change strings in pairs. Start with the E and D, give them a couple of days to stabilize, then do the A and G. This gives you a stabilized, adjacent string to help you tune each new string. (2) Especially in warm, humid weather, the pegs can get very stiff and hard to adjust. One way to help this is to wind the strings so that the wound strings don't crowd up against the wall of the peg box and create extra friction. After you've passed the string through the hole in the peg, pull the peg out a little ways and take a couple of turns to the inside of the peg box. Then cross the string over the hole and take up the remaining turns toward the outside of the peg box. See if this doesn't leave a little space between the wound string and the peg box wall. (3) Strings age slowly but pretty steadily, so it's easy to forget how new strings sound. I play an hour or two nearly every day; I've settled on a scheduled change around every six months, When the time comes round, I'm still always surprised at how the new strings brighten up the sound of the instrument. (4) Modern strings are pretty hardy, but I still like to keep a set of used strings in the case for when I or someone in the group breaks a string: it happens. Thanks, Sumina: your videos are a help and an inspiration!
What made me happy is that I could catch up with one of my friends that I hadn’t seen in a while and remember all the good times we have had together. Congrats for 100k!
Greetings Ms Studer. I am a 70-year-old beginner, about one year on-off, Fiddlerman $700 violin and intermediate pianist, self-taught 12 years ago. Of all the YT videos I have watched, your videos target students like myself. No-nonsense, practical information regarding skills, scales, and maintenance. I like the way you share the pros and cons including your own experiences. Thank you for taking the time to assemble so many valuable resources!
what made me happy today was... played my violin 🎻🎻🎻 my city ( Huaraz - Perú) is on quarentine after 117 days so we can't leave our houses until August...😱😱 it's unbelievable 😰 but I'm using this time to practice like never before, and it really makes me happy 🤗 I have never tried expensive strings, so would be wonderful play with this kind of strings 😱😱😱 sorry for my bad English, I don't know if I wrote good 🤣 anyway, I liked your video, thanks for the recommendations 🤗 blessings!!! 🤗🤗
What made me happy today is that i managed to memorize the whole 1st movement of Mendelssohn violin concerto for my final violin class examination! Although i have to attend my classes via online due to pandemic, still i got so many NEW informations and lessons!Hard work paid off💪✨🎻🎻
What made me happy today was I finally finishing my wall painting in my room and now I can start practicing again. Also the fact that there are organisations which take old stings I had no idea and I have been throwing my old ones away.
What made me happy today was seeing more POC in the classical world! So much of my life, I’ve almost never seen many POC and I’m glad we’re starting to notice and recognize these talented people!
What made me happy today was playing Bach satisfactorily. After so many hours of practice, you can see the results.. and i can only be happy and proud of myself. Always believe in yourself and in what you do!!!
What made me happy today is finally I found a violin teacher I can afford and at a schedule that works for me! I haven't played the violin for 14 years and just recently decided to pick it up again. I could say Ive been successful in the almost one month I've been relearning by myself but nothing beats having feedback from a teacher.
I’m a violinist playing for around 5 years and don’t have an extra set of strings at home so I would really like the strings. I’m just so happy that during quarantine I’ve finally finish learning and performing Mozart’s fourth violin concerto in D Major. It’s been my dream piece to play ever since 3 years after starting violin from twoset.
What made me happy not just today but recently is rediscovering my passion for the violin! As a healthcare employee, working during this pandemic has been really draining and I haven’t felt the motivation for any of my hobbies including the violin. But I recently found my old classical playlist, and decided to pick up the violin again!
While I already knew how to change strings, the tweezers trick is a good idea that I had not thought of. As far as what has made me happy was getting a DM from my violin teacher, who I have not seen in almost seven months, the other day.
My daughter taught me to play the violin. Every time I pick it up to practice I can't help but smile. That is what made me happy today ( and every day). Thank you for your helpful video's.
What made me happy today was the productivity I have managed to maintain throughout the day for my upcoming school exams and also the thought that I am actually making some progress on my violin playing after all these years. ❤️🎻😇
What made me happy today is finally learning how to change my stings properly.! As a self taught violinist I’m very blessed to have this huge RU-vid platform to learn many tips and tricks. I couldn’t afford private violin lessons when I began playing the violin so having RU-vid facilitated my learning experience in the violin. I’m so thankful that musicians like you give tips and tricks to everyone out there who needs help! 😊
What made me happy today is I did quite good in my exam today and I had a great lunchtime with my friends too. Another thing that made me happy is to get to know all these great tips on how to change strings like a pro. Thank You so much Sumina!
What made me happy was walking through my town and even when it was all shut down and silence for weeks, I heard someone in a building playing the violin. It felt magical and somewhat awakening from a far too long sleep ✨🎻🌼
What made me happy today was practising my violin properly for the first time in months. Since the beginning of the lockdown I’ve gotten into slouchy habits of playing and haven’t been taking proper care, as here in the UK live orchestral concerts realistically won’t be reopening until 1st October. I didn’t feel like I had much to work towards as performing in orchestras is what I LIVE to do, but today started working on old excerpts and remembered why I fell in love with the violin in the first place. I hope everyone is coping well and continuing through these uncertain times!
What made me happy about this Covid time is that I have the chance to comeback to practice violin. When my mother died I lost the spirit to play the violin that she gave me as a gifts. However, during this time I realize that she can hear me wherever she is in heaven and play again the violin is way to remember her and made a tribute to her with my effort and passion and share that talent with my beloved ones. Love your channel! Thank you for posting those videos! Hi from Mexico!🇲🇽
I'm happy today, because I'm glad my mum made me pick up the violin when I was 14 years old. Initially I hated the violin and questioned why I should learn a 2nd instrument when I already play the piano! Fast forward to today, I can easily bring my violin with me wherever I go and play it whenever I feel bored or just need some music to lift me up! Whereas a piano, I can't possible bring it with me in a suitcase. I moved to a different location due to COVID-19 where there is no piano. So I'm happy at least I still have my violin with me :)
What made me happy is that I managed to save up for a long time for a new digital piano to officially start my piano journey. It just arrived two weeks ago and now my violin has a new friend! Congrats on 100,000 subs!!
What made me happy today is that I'm feeling so conected to my instrument while I play since I began to practice everyday, I'm hppy because I'm loving and feeling so close to music.
Reading books and making music has been making me happy! Taking time to listen to myself and what I feel I need to do in order to feel happy has been a newer discovery, but I am loving it!
What made me happy today is getting the satisfaction of seeing my students learn, improve and enjoy playing violin! It’s so fulfilling to see them so excited about violin and about learning more and becoming better😊
What made me happy today was this video, I’ve been changing my strings for years and this is the first time I’ve gone with only 1 fine tuner and didn’t know about peg wax, so that’ll be my next purchase when I get new strings! I’ll also send this to my friend who hasn’t changed their strings yet because they are scared of it, so I plan to help them out, but this could give them some insight about what to get and how to prepare for it! Thank you, Sumina!
Last year shortly after I started at uni, I started to experience shoulder pain and this last year has been a roller coaster with ups and downs. During (the kind of) lockdown in my country, I moved back home which meant that I stopped getting the treatment that I was getting, so the pain and discomfort kind of came back. I have used my quarantine time to learn more about my body and how I use it in order to increase my practicing-time. So what made me happy today was that I was able to practice and play more than I have been able to play in several weeks. (Loved this video by the way:)
What made me happy today is realizing that if I get so so insanely good at violin 🎻 like the best ever in all of music history I can get the opportunity to meet all my favorite artists especially you!!!! And receiving strings from my favorite player would help me come closer to that dream😚
I looked back at some videos from two years ago of me playing the first song I learned by ear. I started crying because I realized that even though it was tough, I improved a lot since when I first picked up the violin and when I filmed the video. Even though I am by no means a "great" player in everyone's eyes, I was able to look past the hateful words of strangers who heard me play, and I improved. Now I can play more of my favorite music by ear and I just use the criticism to work on my weaknesses! My violin lifts my mood everyday!
Today one of my online beginner violin students played through Jingle Bells for the first time and it was beautiful seeing how proud he was of himself and how gratifying it was for him to be able to do so well on his own.
Today I felt happy and grateful for waking up, doing the things that I feel passionate about (studying and practicing) and spending time with my family :)
What makes me happy is working with students of various ages and levels and working to make their lesson tailored to them. I really love when I find what works best for them cause they take more time out of their busy day to practice. :’)
What made me happy today is I got more time to practice violin, improving my skills, and got to learn many things from youtube including from your video. Thank you for the useful tips!
Hi Sumina!! I’m a really big fan of your playing and your vids! This one was really helpful especially since I’ve been playing the violin for ~8 years and never changed my own strings hehe What made me happy today was that I got to spend a lot of time with my family today playing boardgames and eating together♥️ My parents both work so it’s always a blessing to be able to spend time with them
What made me happy today was my dad subscribed to a sheet music website. I have had violin lessons for years but can't afford piano lessons so I'm self taught and currently working on I'd say grade three level pieces. Because he subscribed to this website, I can get pretty much any piano sheet music I want to have a go at and keep on learning.
What made me happy today was hearing Conga Del Fuego Nuevo on the radio, which I played in band with my older brother, who played the beautiful trumpet solo!
What made me happy today apart from still surviving despite this pandemic with my family is getting a notification about this video and seeing how you really change your violin strings😊 its helps a lot thank you! Keep safe❤️
Seeing you uploading a new youtube video just made me happy today. I´ve learnt so many new things from your videos even thought i´ve been playing violin for 23 years already, not to mention how much you inspire me on those unmotivated days. It´s a never ending journey of learning. Love from Hamburg!
@@victoriale6619 first of all you are a twoset fan😂 Second of all do you play piano because it helps at learning theory and violin I am a beginner at violin I picked it up 4 and a half months ago and I learned kinda good tunes (in my opinion but I get shaky bow a lot) like air by gottfried finger and Coleg y prifysgol Abertawe These are trinity grade 2 pieces (yes i skipped grade 1 and initial grade) Hope you have fun Also squeaking is probably from pressing to hard with the bow Try to like apply a bit of pressure as a beginner because I believe you do not take dynamics as a beginner Play a bit further from the bridge (for now that is what my teacher told me) and not on the fingerboard Play between them. Have fun
Hi! Sumina! What made me happy today is that I realized that having a great mindset and determination can’t stop a person from doing the things that he is truly passionate for. No one can stumble upon you when you believe in yourself and trusting the things that you have worked hard for. Those hours of practice will surely payoff oneday. During this pandemic, I have come to my personal realizations and this is just one of those, today😄. I have been a fan of yours for a quite a time and you have never failed to give me such great amount of motivation! I look up to you and I’m hoping that one day, I would be able to meet you personally. That’s all for now. Thank you Sumina💛
What made me happy today is that I had a really good practice session. I was totally invested in my rep. and did not let any distractions shift my focus. :)
What made me happy today is to know that my family is healthy and fine and that I'm very lucky to have them with me. Also made me happy to know that I found motivation to start practicing my new concerto!! Greetings from Mexico!❤️
What made me happy today was to find someone who finally explains clearly everything that has to do with changing your strings. About a year ago I changed all my strings - I had never replaced them before they snapped. The thing was that I took off all of the strings at the same time. The bridge came off the violin because there was no pressure holding it. It was a nightmare to put the new strings on. Luckily, two empty spots in a thin layer of dust indicated where the bridge was supposed to go. I'm also glad that used strings have a second life rather than just throwing them away! 😁
Things that made me happy today: I listened to some music, which always improves my mood, I had a really good practice session this morning, I got an internship for the last few weeks of the summer! Love your videos!
What made me happy today was finding an old violin when we were cleaning out my sister’s room. Although I was certainly gutted to find one of the strings had snapped 😬
I have this summer job where I do yard work and pick up garbage from around the town, together with four other people my age. This is our last week at work and today I felt I was really able to talk to them and have fun while we were cleaning up some plantings. I feel like I’ve learned a lot from these people, and that maybe they have learned something from me too. I’m happy about the conversations about big and small things that I’ve had with them. I’m happy to see people of my generation care about the world and the people of this planet. These co-workers have in different ways made me feel hopeful and I’m happy for that too. Maybe I’ll never meet these four people again but I’m happy I took my time to listen to them and talk to them. It’s actually a little sad there’s only three days left of us working together :’)
I realised you have to be 18 to participate. I’m only 16 but If someone read this I hope that maybe I could bring a little positivity or hope into your day 💕
Today, I went to a clinic after having bad leg pain due to diabetic neuropathy. I have so much dreams of travelling and studying music and I fear that time is running out for me. What made me happy is that my health care providers realistically addressed my concerns and helped me with exercises that alleviate the pain. I am driven to live one day at a time and to enjoy each moment each time. As a bonus, even got to practice today!
This weekend, I had a Zoom piano lesson with someone I met on Reddit. I'm happy to have met so many kind people on the internet! Piano is my main instrument, but I played violin in school orchestras for many years. I never took a private lesson for violin, so I never learned how to change strings. Thanks for the video!!! I have not changed my strings in 7 years of playing... My violin can finally enjoy some fresh strings 🙃
After finding RU-vid channels like yours and listening to recordings, I've grown to appreciate music on a meaningful level. I learned how to change my strings from a RU-vid video many years ago, but I always feel grateful and excited when I see more people sharing their own knowledge with others on this platform :)
Hi! This pandemic is surely one of the biggest thing in our life now.. as an international student, i can’t even go back home to see my fam or even going out with a friend.. i’m feeling quite lonely as i live alone in a foreign country.. during these past few months, my violin and piano are my savior! I’m really thankful that i have my piano and violin that can at least brighten up my day whenever i’m feeling down like today ☺️ Super love your videos!! ❤️
What made me happy today was joining a zoom session with my violin teacher, my classmates, and some of my teacher's friends from around the world! Every day we join the zoom session to practice together and it's very enjoyable and has been really motivational especially being in quarantine :)
What made me happy today is today i just realise that we as a musician can motivate and help thousands of people from changing string until playing the instrument... glad this kind of organisation exist...
What made me happy today, is that now I can understand everything that you say without subtitles! I'm Mexican and I'm still learning English. That gives me a lot of joy, because it says that I am learning a new skill! Thank you, Sumina! You are great! I love your videos! And you are a great example of a great musician!
hi sumina!! first of all thank you for posting videos like these. it is really insightful and helpful especially the practice video you posted recently. what made me happy today or just these few months is that i’ve taken violin and music more seriously as i have more time to practice and spend time playing music now because of lockdown. i’ve never really been that interested in violin as i’m a student and have always been prioritising my studies over other things and was never disciplined in my practice but i’ve been finding a greater interest in violin and that makes me rlly glad and happy:). thanks sumina!!
What made me happy today is finding this little gem that I will send to my students so they can also learn the techniques and methods used in changing strings. I sometimes use gut strings(I play the Baroque Violin) and I also note down when I attached that particular string. Nice to know I'm not alone! Cheers Sumina and all the best!
What made me happy today is that I realized I improved a lot on the violin just after a few months (I started during the early days of quarantine) It's not easy self teaching violin, the lack of resources and advice from good teachers prevented me from improving more. Your videos inspired me a lot 😍
What made me happy today was that I was able to fix my e string since it fell off the other day but after watching this video, now I can actually play the violin and go to my lesson 😊
Today I was super happy because I finally got to meet with my string quartet to rehearse for 3 hours. Literally today and it was the first time since the pandemic hit. And big congratulations on 100k! I noticed that when I clicked!
I started to pick up a new instrument to play beside my old friend violin, which is a 40 years old guitar, I loved my guitar entirely, he is now one of my best companionship in the isolation period.
What made me happy today was learning where to donate my old strings. This is such a great idea, and I'm happy to know that there are organizations out there helping out string players that may not have access to strings. Thanks for including this advice!
Being able to buy my first violin last month and practice everyday since brings me joy and makes me happy. Thanks for your video that inspire me to learn to play the violin as an adult
Memory loss has given me the HAPPY motivation to recall. Your videos are sure to encourage me as I relearn what was forgotten. I thank you for this great new beginning! This has definitely made me smile today!🤗
It made me so happy today that my daughter (11) practiced her violin early in the morning (without me asking her to do it). She used to practice all the time, but had lately a little crisis. ❤️
I watched a video earlier by Allie Brooke. She's a single mom and talked about how she's trying to be more thankful for the little things in life. It really brought peace and happiness in that moment! inspiring... I'd love the set of strings!
