Hi🙂 theyre anti squeal shims, theyre not mandatory theyre just made of a different material so that the caliper doesnt contact the metal on the back of the brake pad directly causing squeal..but if u add brake lubricant to those contact points it should help avoid those squeak/squeals.

Hey there ! I have a 2008 Impreza 2.5i. The my front brake only have about 5000 miles on them. My car sat for a few weeks. I did change my wheel rims and think maybe I might have overtorqued them (did not use a torque wrench at that time). I now get a bad vibration at 50 mph and my left front rim become super hot radiating heat... Did I warp my rotor for overtorquing or is it again that my caliper has a seized brake pin or even a seized caliper piston (happen in the past, had to service my car and have them replace the calipers... I think they were refurbished ones) ? Any experience on these subies ? What's more likely from your experience ? I do hear the rotor rub againt the pad every time the wheel make a revolution. Do you think I can solve this by untorquing my wheel and tork it back but this time with a torque wrench, to the sevice manual torque spec value ??? Thanks for any input ! Just did timing belt, OEM subary TB tensionner, all idler pulleys and coolant replacement at the subaru dealership (1500 canadian dollars) so I really would like to avoid another 1200$ brake job at the dealership if I can. Maybe I'll go to the next door mechanics, but If you think I can solve this myself and save a bit of money, that'd be a relief as I don't have a lot of financial income. I'm already planning to do the spark plugs, fuel filter and PCV valve maintenance myself (already bought the OEM parts so I dont have to pay a mechanic for labor time to do that " basic maintenance " and save up a bit of money). My 2008 impreza is almost 12 yrs old but only 62000 miles on it. Thanks fot the input ! I'm really anxious about the brake issue. Any input would help !
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 4 года назад
If its getting that hot, ur caliper most likely is stuck pressing against the brake rotor could be the brake caliper pin..could be the brake caliper itself..so what i would do..take off the caliper..check the caliper pins if they dont slide out and in smoothly, then most likely thatll be ur problem..if both operate smoothly i would check ur caliper by having someone press the brake pedal and once they let go of the brake pedal the caliper should kinda release back a little enough to let u move the rotor freely

Is this process the same for a 2016 Imprezza?

yes the process would be the same, just the brake pad will have a slightly different warning tab location on certain models.

Pretty good except he did not clean the hub surface that mates with the rotor. Also, he should have used new brake pad clips or at least removed and cleaned the old ones and the surfaces on the caliper bracket that mate with the clips. The wheel nuts should be retorqued after the car is driven a short distance, then again a week later.
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 5 лет назад
Yea i should have waited to replace the brake pad clips to record video, those brake pads were supposed to include hardware but didnt so they ordered the hardware but got em a couple days after, i did end up putting new hardware but the following week and when i edited video i didnt include those scenes unfortunately.

Hard to believe people pay up to $500 for a front brake job. I was at the dealer service shop, and they were quoting a front brake job for a woman. They wanted $550. I took her aside and told her I would do it for her for just the cost of the parts. Couldn’t let her get jammed like that.

The caliper mounting bolt should be 59 ft-lbs, the wheel is 89 ft-lbs.
@backyardchevy328
@backyardchevy328 5 лет назад
My manual said it was 88.5 ft-lbs. for the front caliper bracket to spindle bolts...the wheel yes it is 89 ft-lbs but i normally stick to 100 ft-lbs standard for most vehicles.
