Tools you will need...
- Socket wrench
- 8mm socket
- 10mm socket
- 13mm socket
- Socket wrench extension (about 6in will work)
Although I don't use any gloves in the video you may want to use them. Especially if the battery terminal is heavily corroded.
I have also replaced the battery the same way in a Pontiac Montana and I have heard that the Buick Terraza, Chevrolet Venture, Chevrolet Uplander, and Saturn Relay can have their battery replaced the same way..

Many years after still this video is helping people out. Changed the battery today and I appreciate your effort! I wish gm would build better designed cars….

Thank you for posting this and listing the sockets used. This is a big help to someone like me, who fell for blinker fluid :)

This applies for the Chevy Venture and Uplander. What were the engineers at GM drinking when they thought it was a good idea to put the battery in a barely accessible place under the hood!

I want to thank you for the directions. Your video is well done. Easy to follow and understand. Who knew it could be such a pain in the butt to take out a car battery. Not the norm. Thanks again!

Great video! My 2002 has a lot more plastic and cables in the way, making it a pain to turn the wrench. Also despite having 20 7mm and 9mm sockets floating around, I can't find a single 8mm in any kit ha ha ha

The third bolt on the support bar nearest to the windshield was completely frozen on my 2006 Rendezvous. I bought myself a breaker bar so I could apply enough torque to loosen it, but it ended up stripping the threads and now the bolt rotates endlessly. Now what? That is a very tight location and difficult to access. UPDATE: Turns out the bolt wasn't stripped! It was just VERY rusted and difficult to turn, and the bolt is quite long, so it was slow going with my breaker bar. After slowly turning it for 10 minutes it finally came out.

Lucky you I've snapped the head on mine, but whatever my car is a piece of crap, I'll keep using it till the engine falls off, I wonder thoug if it's actually a problem to drive without that bar

You also want to be sure to lubricate the battery terminals with Dielectric grease to protect the connection from corrosion.

Trying to change the battery on my 2002 Rendezvous, and I didnt know I could hate my car any more than I did before. I cant for the life of me unscrew the negative (and probably the positive) from the battery. Is there any tips and tricks on how to get the stubborn things to move?

The socket to use on the brace bolts and battery tie-down is a 13mm, not 10mm.

Great job on video, clear ,easy, manageable directions. I just hope it's the battery. Car starts being jumped, I drove it for 10 miles with no problems. I parked it and tried turning it on but not a whimper from the engine. Just some electric whirs. Batt tested at 12 volts but from my understanding it can test ok at 12 volts but not have the amperage to turn over. So if the car starts only when jumped, doesn't die while driving, what else could it be? I'll update I guess, any pointers would be appreciated.

@johnpatmos1722
@johnpatmos1722 4 года назад
@@kristinasocia9864 The nut is embedded in the molding. It gets corroded and will not break. You may want to drown it in bolt breaker fluid. I did, but that still didn't work. I finally took my saws-all and cut it out. Done in two minutes. Doesn't seem real necessary to hold the battery in place.

Hello Sir; Your video is very helpful to me and I have question on the removal of the battery, I'm trying to remove the bolt holding the battery in and it keeps turning but I can't get the battery out because it seems like the bolt is not loosening up, do you have any suggestions ? Thank You for your video and I have bookmarked it for future reference.

I had to drill that bolt out and order a new battery platform. What happens is the nut is under the platform and held in place by thin plastic, so the nut is just turning with the bolt while you're trying to get it out. Had to take the fuse box and the windshield wiper fluid reservoir out, and go really midevil on it, but it came out.

Oh no :'( i can't afford all that nonsense. And my battery needs replacing right now :'( we worked on it for over an hour
@dochojo9009
@dochojo9009 4 года назад
I'm really sorry :( I hope you can find another way to get it out. But if that bolt is just spinning and spinning and spinning, you'll have to drill it or take a saw to it. Either way, there's not enough room to do much of anything with that fuse box and reservoir in the way :(

The bolt and rubber part that holds the battery down will not come off. It was very difficult to break it loose to even start. Sprayed WD40 on it. Been at it for 30 minutes. Is there a trick to it? Nice video. Not sure why I'm posting since I need an answer right now. Thanks!

I really needed to watch this video yesterday. when my sister and I had to change my battery. It was so cold -20 here in Michigan. But we managed to get it out and put the new one in. I had to get my son to finish it off. I guess i didn't connect the battery cables flush with the battery. cause it wouldnt start. But he got it. I did subscribe to your channel. Can you show me how to replace the little lights in the radio control buttons in the steering wheel.

Yikes, dude! Rubber medical gloves work wonders when you're touching terminals with corrosion on them. I've seen batteries with acidic film on them as well. Just a safety measure to bring up for people not accustomed to doing this sort of thing on the regular.
