I have an old Traeger like the one in the background with the thermometer on the top. It only has "Off", "Smoke", "Low", "Med", "High". I bought one of these a couple of years ago but never installed it. It looks more like the one you had on your unit before you installed the new one. Did you install the RTD on the thermometer Traeger? This video apparently is replacing a unit that already has an RTD installed. Can you give me any tips to install it with the RTD?

I did not so I don't want to steer you in the wrong direction... it included the thermometer but my plan was to install the controller and see if it worked.. The person I got this from told me the controller was giving him problems (number not displaying correctly and changing temperature) then it stopped working. So I thought lets do one part at a time and it worked.

I have the old style. Mine does not have off but it only has smoke med high. I am going to install a new controller today with the temp sensor and totally digital. I hope it works I'll let you know.

my Traeger is a second-hand 20 and the person I got it from said they bought it from Costco. I was told that most models have interchangeable controllers

@@pioneersmokehouseschannel thank you so is mine practically new bought it second hand but rtd temp is torn and it's about 15 bucks figure upgrade it to the one you show

@@TheMrclos805g I can't recall everything I covered in the video because I am getting old, lmao. but this controller included a replacement temperature sensor. I don't care for meat probes or bluetooth

You need to have all the baffles in place for it to work correctly

yes, I looked at them but I wanted to keep it on a budget, test a cheap one for the channel and I hate wi-fi and blue tooth controllers, lol.. For real, there is a huge list. I fixed my buddy's unit with a different one because he wanted more options.

@@pioneersmokehouseschannel Not 100% sure, but I don't think that you can replace an non wi-fi controller with a wi-fi model. The circuitry is different, (quite sure that I read that in another comment in another video or on the Amazon site in the question area. Myself, I am expecting my new controller from Amazon to replace the original on my Lil' Tex Elite. The smoker would make a "humming" sound even when it was in the off position. I got around the problem by unplugging it every time but forgot to do that two days ago and later in the day when I noticed my error, the smoker would not power up any more. Hopefully the new controller fixes the problem. BTW, I did not order a Traeger controller but one made by a company called Stanbroil for C$69.99.
