Careful with the latch assembly, cause if it like my car, the hood sensor for the factory alarm is in there... That sensor failing is a common cause of the alarm sounding intermittently. There are several videos on that problem too... Thanks for the great video!
Great Video! I’m about to replace mine, so this came in handy. 2 quick points... 1. The plastic hood latch cover: As you said, it probably does help keep debris etc. from getting into the mechanism; but, I believe it’s main purpose is more so for security, in order to mitigate someone from being able to easily open the hood from outside the vehicle. 2. Hood Latch Bolts: I like your approach (using socket extensions). Obviously, the space is too tight to get right at them with a reg. ratchet/socket. In my case, I found that ratcheting combo wrenches also worked pretty well.
You’re right! Someone stole my cars battery by removing the plastic cover to reach into the hood release cable. I watched this video which was a great help in replacing my hood release cable and I did it all by myself but now i don’t know how to find the plastic cover since I’m pretty sure the people who stole my battery broke that piece off
Mine suffered a minor front end collision. I pulled off the bottom plastic rocker panels to access fender screws, removed the fenders and wheel splash guards, what was left of the bumper, headlights, the hood. The cable, hood latch mechanism, and radiator support were also damaged. So I undid the spot welds on the radiator support, and removed it. I had to do the same to a donor car at a junkyard. Yea, quite a bit of labor involved in that. As for the cable, it was a super easy install, since the whole front end of the vehicle was exposed.
The plug/grommet where the cable goes into the cabin needs to fit correctly, or water draining from the windshield cowl will enter through here. I discovered my 02 Accord's driver's side floor leak was coming from this plug. Double-check the fit and then give it some silicone sealer to prevent leaks. Look at the 12 minute mark in the video, a few inches above the plug, to see the drainage channel. It pours straight down above the plug.
Well, you gotta clean and degrease the engine bay every now and then, including these little mechanical wonders that are the hood latches that we take for granted every day and keep your hood from flying off of the car, into your windshield. Keeping your car clean helps keeps it cool, and easier to spot engine fluid leaks. Yes, mechanical mechanisms do get coated and gummed up with leaking engine fluids and road grime, inhibiting them from properly doing their jobs.
🌴🇵🇷Thank you for making your video on the hood release cable f wire l have the issue on my car is a 1999 Honda Accord ex 4 cylinder that l am having issues with my hood wire... What would the price coast to have it replaced in fix ..that it isn't costing💭❗🤔
the security harness part connected to the vehicle is latched onto an area around the horn. the latch is just some sort of plastic clip so you can grab it and push it towards the vehicle until it releases. once you do the the security harness will be able to pull up higher to the hood release latch are giving you access to connect or disconnect it
I went to open my hood and nothing happens. I hear click but no pop of hood. Never had this before. How could it just break like this. Is there a trick to pop it without pulling lever?
V Vince You will need to use a screw driver and pop out the clips holding the plastic cover in place. Once that is done you will need to gently bend the front clip (bumper) near the top and shove a 10mm with extension in and remove the 3 bolts holding the latch in place. Then the hood will lift. Some say it can be done using a screw driver to release the latch but, I was never able to get that to work. Thanks OP for the video it helped.
Sorry I don't remember...Probably an online auto parts store...this was 6+ years ago...Iv'e had a few beers since then and killed off the brain cells that remembers where I got the part...sorry...
