How To Change The Ignition Switch On Citroen Xsara Picasso

Thanks Pete, Today I watched your video to replace the whole ignition cilinder of my Citroen Xantia. It's the same principle! The lock was broken and didn't turn. After watching your video I went to the car demolition place and took out the cilinder of another Xantia and replaced it in my car. The roadside assistent told me I had to replace the chip too! I removed the key blade from my remote by heating it in the flame of the gas stove. As it melted I took it out. I replaced the blade from the 'new' cilinder by heating it in the same way and put it qiuckly while still hot in the remotekeyholder of my Citroen Xantia. I let it cool down and there was the new remote key with the right chip, compatibe with my car! Thank you for sharing your experience in your video. It saved me a lot of money!!! I fixed my car for only €20,-!!! Olaf from The Netherlands!

Hi Pete great video. My ignition packed in this morning. Just wandering on the back of the barrel is there a male that goes into the female plastic ignition part as not sore if my barrel is broken then ? Cheers Shaun.

Hello, my Blower/Heater does not work anymore. I've checked the power at the blower/heater and there is nothing. After shortcircuit it works. So the problem must be somewhere else. Can this problem be the ignition switch on a xsara picasso from 2007 with automatic climacontrol too ? I wiggled on the ignition key, but nothing chances. Must the blower/heator work if I wiggle ?

Just done mine now the car wont start (just the ignition switch) and when you try to start it it just turns over thats it also turns over 1 turn to early on the key and if you turn it once more it cuts the engine out, any ideas?

Similar Problem. No heater/AC but also when I turn on the wipers the left hand indicator comes on! The car refused to start one day and was off the road for three weeks, all because the ignition wiring almost went on fire! I have ordered new wiring like yours and hope it works. thanks for your vid.

I bought the cables, i have a picasso 2003 1.6 and they are different from mine! -.- the small plug is the same, but the long one just has 2 wires! and the plug is small, search online cant find anywhere only this type..

Fan not working as other comments.The video is an excellent help when doing the job but beware of the cheap replacement switches as the wires are only just long enough to reach and one of the plugs required some slight modification with a hacksaw and file due to a block of plastic in the moulding which prevented it fitting into the socket.

I thought the problem lay in the actual barrel assembly, glad I watched this as otherwise I would be ordering the wrong parts. Thanks so much for this video :)

Brilliant video, just completed same job on my 51 plate Picasso,took 2 hours,only comment I would make is don't go for the cheapest replacement, wires only just long enough and I had to trim one of the plugs to make it fit. All the same well done Pete, keep up the good work.

Pete. Many thanks for the video. We had the dreaded no air con or blower motor. A ten quid part on Ebay and a couple of hours later, we're all sorted.The only two problems were a plug with a cable that was a bit short and a moulding on the plug that needed cutting off to get it to fit. It would have taken an awful lot longer without this video. Once again, thank you.
