This video is a tutorial about how to change the leathers in a windmill without pulling the well pipe or cylinder. Our well is 60 foot deep. The check valve and plunger are pulled by hand without heavy equipment. It is usually possible to pull by hand a well less than 100 foot deep.
Windmills provide water security. They do not need electricity, only wind.
Please let us know if you have any questions in the comment section.
HERE is information about how a windmill pulls water from a well.

I had a general understanding of how windmills worked but seeing this in depth look at them being worked on was eye opening. Great stuff!

I am thinking about having a small pond dug and will have a well dug so I can get a windmill installed. Your video was great to understand the principals involved in pumping the water out. Seems like the leathers are definitely very important. Thank you for your shared info. I will be looking at the other videos you mentioned in this one.

Thank you for this fine video. I've changed leathers but if someone has not they are probably wondering how the pump works.

Enjoyed the video. That was very interesting. We live in northwest North Carolina and the only working windmill in our area is our neighbor who happens to own a well drilling company. He ran it for a few days after having it installed which was over 20 years ago and I've not seen it run again. It's an AREOMOTOR too. Thank you for the video. You all take care and God bless.

Interesting video I guess you need to get together the tools to get the job done . Got to give the the two boys a lot of credit for the ingenuity . I’ve worked on a lot of rod pumps, but of course that was my job and I had a Smeal pump rig so watching these guys do it this way was interesting. Plus I had no idea windmill pumps were made like this. I just figured they had a cylinder at the bottom. Interesting thanks for sharing and have you boys ever tried the same repair job at 20 below🥶

Very good video explaining the inner workings of the pump, can this pump unit be bought new in America, can you tell me how many turns of the wind wheel to get one stroke of the pump, or what’s the gear ratio of the gearbox , I am thinking of building a mill , greetings from Ireland.

That was interesting. We put in a second well with a hand pump, as backup to the electrically pumped well. We thought about a windmill, but the cost of installation and the extra plumbing was prohibitive, unfortunately .

Hand pumps are a great back up for water security. Glad you have it! Thank you for watching!

Thank you for such an educational video. It was well put together. I would like to know, what is the capacity of the 1 7/8 x 24 inch pump? How much water does it draw? Are there bigger ones available? Can that windmill and pump be used to provide portable water daily to about 900 people in my village located in the niger delta of Africa?

Are the check valve frames, couplers and down rods made of stainless steel? Seems it would help eliminate rust and other corrosive materials and help keep rust out of the water and keep the water cleaner. And is there a filter somewhere in the system, like at the outflow of the storage tank? Also, I wonder why they use leather rather than neoprene or some other sealing material? I would guess the check-valve assembly is several hundred dollars. Informative video.
@texasfarmsteadliving-caren9517
@texasfarmsteadliving-caren9517 6 месяцев назад
The check valves are made of brass. Our couplers are galvanized but they do make stainless steel couplers. Our down rods are carbon rods. No, there is no filter in the system. We use leather because that is always what Mr. Rueffer has always used. They do make cloth inserted neoprene leathers. Aermotor Windmills probably has everything offered for windmills. Yes, about two hundred dollars is correct.

Why did he want the camera turned off? Why if he had to unscrew the very bottom part did he just leave it free when he dropped it down the well? wasnt it screwed on for a good reason?
@lemuelmagby9986
@lemuelmagby9986 Месяц назад
The very bottom part was a foot valve or check valve that sits at the very bottom of the pipe/pump assembly. Reason it was screwed together when you seen it come out is he needed to change the leathers on it so you drop the sucker rod back in the well, screw the sucker rod into that bottom check valve/foot to then be able to pull it out to service/change leathers and inspect it. When in operation that check valve has to be free/independent from the other check valve so you drop it back in by itself.
