I have found your videos very interesting and easy to understand . I think bmw dealers would hate that you show how easy these jobs can be. Jobs that they like to charge a fortune for but condescension always comes for free !
James Odd thank you James for the very kind comment :) I really enjoy making them :) I want to buy an older bmw with issues so I can make other diy videos, as they get more subscribers than my in-depth tours. :) I do think people over pay for certain jobs that need doing, any certain people over charge. My friend has bought a 987 Porsche Cayman and they want about 450 to clean out the front radiators under the bumpers, but it seems like a very easy job. I shall find out soon :D take care and thanks for watching my videos :)
Useful thanks - though my wiring loom does not give me nearly as much room as you. Getting the bulb back it was a real fiddle - got there in the end. The high beam looks an impossible job if you’ve got big hands!
Somehow we never got the notification for this video, another great one, it’s amazing what car infotainment systems keep track of, great tips and amazing to see your nearly at 1K subs 😎
Planet Auto hey, it’s great hearing from you :D thanks for the comment. I can’t believe I’m almost there. Lol. I remember my dads e32 and e34 explaining which bulbs are gone etc. I hope to film this weekend. I may attempt a vlog style video, as I’ should be working on the Porsche :) hope you are well :D
mattsbeamer you deserve it, consistently great content, it’s amazing how it starts. That sounds an idea, you’d suit VLOG, it also means you can increase your content. Be cool to see the Porsche.
Planet Auto to be honest vlogs scare me lol. How are you all doing over there? I love making the videos , I really wish I could have more time to make them :)
I have to do this on my right hand drive on the off side. I'd just checked under the bonnet and thought I knew what to do but on finding the headlight was set so far back I reckoned it might be a dealer job. Thanks to your video I now know its not. So good to see people sharing content like this. It is clearly not a safe thing to do on the road as I have no drive so I'll have to take my car to somewhere safer first.
Philip Eddington thank you for the kind message. I don’t understand why they make these bulbs a pain to get too at times. Good luck with this bulb change! :)
H Matt, find your content very education as I have the same car. Wanted to ask if you could make a vid of how to change the spark plugs and which spark plugs to use... also maybe inspecting the coil packs thanks. Keep up the great vids cheers
Sthembiso Madonsela thank you so much for the great comment :) One of the next DIY videos coming up will be the spark plug video :) my personal life has slowed me down a little bit. I’ll be as fast as I can :) take care :)
Thanks Matt got condensation in the light, now the bulb has gone 😢 I think it’s cause when the last time it was replaced it must have been left partially open. Anyway thanks for the vid.
Sammy Chammas good idea. Someone else asked for the same video. The coolant is quite new in the car thou as is the radiator l. But I will check it over anyway :)
Thank you for making this video, I bought a used F20 very recently and has been looking replace the low beam, which is commonly used in the UK as high beam is not allowed when there is oncoming traffic. I'm wishing to replace it with an LED bulb so it has a longer lifespan and is also brighter, any recommendations on brands or product?
Friankie L go Philip and there is a youtube video show you how to change to led,but the error light must on,I also have the h7 adaptor, but I havent find a place to mount it. Park lights need to be changed to led as well to get the color match.
Friankie L thank you for the comment and question. To be honest I have never converted my lights to LED before. When I was in England I used to just buy the best legal halogen bulbs which were great. As I’m in a bright city now a-days I rarely struggle to see the road. The thing with LED bulbs is they draw a lot less current than a normal bulb, which is good but, the computer gets confused and thinks there is no bulb. I would stay with the big well known brands like Phillips or Hella, as they have a good reputation, not some super cheap Chinese brand that may cause further issues. Sorry I haven’t been that helpful. Keep me updated with what you decide :) cheers
Thank you for your content Matt,it`s a goldmine for any DIY guy. Can you tell us your car mileage and what mechanical problems you have encountered so far? I have a 2014 116i and every cold start when the weather is below 10c makes a rattling noise for about 20 seconds. curious if you also have this issue since weather in Russia is a lot colder than in the UK.
Wednesday Hey, thank you for the lovely message!! And thank you for subscribing. I hope to be filming more f20 DIY videos soon. My time has been very limited lately, especially with the shorter days (due to the light). The power to the garages where I am has been cut off and I’m still waiting for them to sort the issue out. My car is quite low with the mileage, she is around 38000kms which I think is about 23k Miles. So far she has been reliable for me, when I bought the car, the previous owner had to change the expansion tank for the cooling system (under warranty I believe). I think the -27c weather caused it. Since I have had the car thou she has pretty good, I do have a few little issues thou, but I think it all comes down to the petrol. I think where I don’t drive the car enough, it cause the drivetrain error, and makes the car run rough at start up. Since putting fresh fuel in it’s been perfect. The start up noise, I think I know which noise you mean, I have a metallic rattle, which I have been told is the waste gate, it’s not the nicest noise I agree. Before I had the car and looked at it I thought it was the exhaust heat shield making a noise :) I’ll find a link of a video with a similar noise :)
@@mattsbeamer Cheers mate,YES!,that is the noise, literally sounds like a diesel from the late 90`s,but it goes away within 30 seconds. I think it could be fixed with a software update that will prevent the waste gate from fully opening. I was told it opens fully to heat up the exhaust system so the emissions are reduced, since those system don`t work properly until they reach a certain temperature. My 2014 116i had a failed tyre pressure monitor sensor failure that set me back about 270 pounds, although the mileage is almost as low as yours (26k miles). The most annoying thing for me is the gear knob vibration, but that`s something that every manual bmw i ever owned did.Overall not a bad car,but only time will tell if the Direct Injection will last or it will be a nightmare after 50-60k miles because of the carbon buildup on the intake valves. Keep up the great work, the more cars you will review the more your channel will grow as you will reach a wider public. The quality of your videos is outstanding and the explanations are precise!
Hi There, I have a problem with my front windows..when windows are open and I close the door, they rattle terribly against something..this is happening on both front doors left and right..please help
A agree. It was surprised how easy it was doing the same bulb on my friends Octavia the other day. The hardest one that I had to change was an an older generation Renault Megane (the one with the funny rear end). You should take the bumper off, but I managed to do it, with the bumper still on, should my arms were shredded lol
TheRcGuy Expert :D I miss the old style headlights :D they over complicate things now a days. I remember on a old megane that you had to remove the bumper. Crazy :D
@@mattsbeamer haha lol that's crazy, i also made the switch from an E87 to an F20. I haven't changed a bulb on the f20 yet so this vid was handy. I also have a channel about it Bimmer Belgium. But that channel is more about tuning and reviews and stuff😁
TheRcGuy Expert I just subscribed!! I look forward to watching your videos and reviews. I need to start doing more videos too :) my last BMW was back in England, it was a e46 318ti compact, and before that it was a e36 compact. I’ve mostly owned e30s and e36s but the one I missed the most was a e38 740i back when I was 21 (a long time ago lol)
@@mattsbeamer cool thanks man, and yeah i try to upload regulary but due to my work and social life that isn't always that easy. And nice, i only owned 2 1 series and an old Audi A3. I'm only 21 at the moment so yeah 😅. I hope to own a M BMW one day but we'll see
Михаил Алипов Hey, nice to meet you! Your English is a lot better than my Russian, plus I can understand what you are saying :) oh very cool, which f21 do you have? I’d love to have an f21 with the sports kit :)
2:24 seconds of talking before you actually did anything related to replacing the bulb. You just need to talk less and do more, and then I'm sure more people would have the time and patience to watch and learn.
