Just purchased a new 2018 CRF450RX and haven't had to maintain a dirt bike in 20 years so this video was very useful. Thanks for producing and as a way to say thanks for these type videos I will definitely try to purchase all I can from Rocky Mountain. thx again.
Finally Honda took out the two separate engine and transmission oil and turned it into one! I get sick of always having to drain both and the transmission doesn't have a dip stick and its really annoying
I have a 2019 crf250R and it only has the engine oil cap on the clutch cover along with the oil filter on the same side, only engine oil for the entire bike no transmission oil? Wierd part is that my engine oil cap doesn’t have a dipstick as if it was my transmission cap
Changed oil after the first 2 hours, oil appeared to be supper black, in my older bikes it always come out so clean. Did you notice this too or do you think we have a problem? Thanks
This bike takes just over a liter of oil when doing an oil and filter change. Follow the directions in this video and check your dipstick and you'll be good to go!
I always take my guard off first whilst the engine is cold.. I give things a clean of needed around the sump plug... After warming up and letting it sit.. I crack open the drain plug... I then finish the removal by hand to ensure I get a good hold on the sump plug bolt.. For draining... After the normal draining I crank the motor with the kill button held down... This gets more old oil to drain out.. Finally I do all my nuts by hand and especially the filter housing case.. Then you can be sure of a good fit... Finally on newer models there is no dip stick just a view level glass.. I add 1 litre (1 quart... Check levels after a warm start 3mins, 3 minutes settle and then I add 100ml more to get the level correct... The first warm up will get the oil into the filter and then you can do that top up as required.
Is this safe to use in a 2018 CRF450RX? Bel-Ray EXS Synthetic Ester 4T Engine Oil? What about the Pro Honda HP4M? I read somewhere that the Moly is bad since it is now combined clutch/engine?
Honda manual says to grease the filter side of the spring before reinstalling......how come no one does this>? Is the grease like the lipstick trick to hold a funky nut in place, it's just for retention/alignment or does it serve a purpose?
*Bastard Son of Odin* You are right on the money with this. That is its purpose, to hold the spring in position for install. Nice job having that manual close by, we like to see that! Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the quick reply and for easing my mind! I just did my first service on my new to me 2012 450R and didn't have grease.....I buttoned it all back up but haven't started it because I didn't want to mess anything up. Can't talk any more, gotta go ride!!!!
went to do 1st oil change on 2017 crf450r and bottom bolt of skid plate wont come out, stripped by the dealer lol lucky for them they are closed at this hour man i would be yelling! is that ridiculous or what?!
tigros999 it's not stripped dude I thought the same thing when I went to do my first oil change ,You have to get a small flat head screwdriver on the inside of the skid plate to hold the insert while you un screw the bolt . Basically the insert is spinning with the bolt .
Yeah I had my problems with it too and researched online and noticed many others having the same issue with getting the bolt off. It was a mission!!! Once I got it off I decided not to. Put it back on. And yup I had to use a screw driver too bloody annoying.
Most likely the Pro Honda HP4S: www.rockymountainatvmc.com/parts/pro-honda-hp4s-full-synthetic-4-stroke-motor-oil-p But I would check your owners manual to be sure. Congrats on the new bike!
@@dawsongibbons477 No ticking in engine at all, except the damn chain noise , apparently CRF like a tight chain or you get that annoying sound, btw i stuck with the standard HP4 engine oil .
So ive just done an oil change on my 2018 crf250r i took the bolt out the bottom of the ngine dropped all old oil... poured new oil in to the engine the engine oil screw had no dip stick.. other side of bike has no screw to put engine oil in so this means theres bo transmission oil its just mixed together engine oil and tranny oil. ?
These bikes take a little over 1 liter. Honda recommends 1.10 Quarts or 1040 cc's. Also check your dipstick and the oil line should be at the "3" on your dipstick.
