I've watched most of the videos on the handle replacement on RU-vid but this one is dead on! Way to go! I paid the dealer big money to replace it the first two times (around 800 dollars). After watching your video and spending about 50 dollars in parts I was able to do it in about a half hour. My only recommendation would be to check the operation of the actual latch, make sure it is lubricated and free of debris. My hunch is that the latches get gunked up, rusted, and dirty and this causes the handle to break prematurely. Also, the white retainer clips that hold the body panels on inevitably break when you pull the 4 panels off the inside. You may want to buy a half a dozen or so when you replace the handle just in case. They are only about a dollar.

Thanks for that video. Very well done. This will be my second rear handle install, the first one I did not use any you tubes so I had to muddle through on my on. This will help. One thing I noticed on a few other you tubes on this topic is those also remove the entire large bracket that holds the window mechanisms. I see you just use a long extension and go through those two holes, I assume it's magnetized? I had noticed those holes last time after I did it the hard way. Thanks again. I was considering getting an after market handle, they do have metal ones for pretty cheap. I may just go OEM. the last one lasted about 7 years.

Thanks! One challenge I had is that the plastic stands into which the 2 screws that hold the handle go were partially cracked, and one cracked even more when I removed the handle. I had to use epoxy and a small cable clamp to establish a secure base. So, heads up to anyone doing this that the plastic can be pretty brittle after all these years, so be gentle when working on it. I cracked another part during re-assembly.

Looks like this needs re-engineered with a plasma cutter to add an access port 8"x11". There are few problems a plama cutter cannot solve. Great Video thanks for posting.

You can also pull the handle cable with a slim Jim type/ wire hook device through the window slot up top and open the door.

At about when you describe reinstalling the panel into the liftgate-how do you fit the latch back into the hole? When I tried to do that it put too much pressure on the abs receptacles (that the 2 phillips screws go into), and one of them broke off.

Helpful video but skips too many important steps. Like after connecting cable it would have been helpful to know the best way of getting the latch back through the hole. I tried and the plastic rim at the end of the cable broke. Now I have to replace the whole cable. Thanks for the help anyways. A little frustrated though.

@@erinlemberg9344 I did. There really isnt any disassembly for it. The nut that you take off just allows for it to be push aside. It holds the "key hole lock" in place. Just undo it.....do your business and remount it in the reverse order.
