How to change the tail lights to LED on Volkswagen e-up.

I have already changed the interior lights, trunk light, headlight to LED and turn light, now it is time to change the Volkswagen e-up tail lights (It should be the same with Seat Mii electric or Skoda Citigo iv). It is very easy and without any CAN bus errors. Before you change the turn lights to LED please check with your local authorities if it is allowed or not.

Just to clarify if anyone does this conversion. W5W - 2 x sidelight bulbs W16W - indicator and reverse lights 566 / P21/4W - brake lights Would be good to pin my comment just so it's clear for everyone 🙂

I am waiting for my e-up 2020 model to come this month and I will surely make a video if it doesn't have an ambient light. If it have then I will think for something else. Thanks for the request by the way.

please, did you measure decrease in power consumption after LED conversion? i saw you saved 100w in front, so worth knowing how much it helped here

Around 150 W is the decrease of power consumption when I converted it to LED

When I changed the reverse light to LED I have problems with parking sensors on my car and need to go back to normal bulb

Yes I am using the same in gen. 2 and they haven’t failed me yet. The only change I have made is in the headlights

do you know the reason that the right tail light are ok when turning the switch to parking mode, however the right tail light is turned off when turning on the motor on full night lights!?

The Seat Mii has totally different light unit, bulb location and bulbs itself: PY21W, P21W, P21/5W, R10W

@@tedonash2681 they're mostly the same. As far I have noted the difference is design (lamps front and rear); Mii has no rear parking camera, no buttons on steering wheel, no wheel jack&wrench; different seat material in saloon and different front panel color.

which ones are which? I don't see the point in changing reverse or indicator bulbs as they are relatively rarely used, but I would think about changing the brake and other red one. At least from the economy of electricity stand point that is my thoughts.

@Tedo Nash - Dear Tedo, please allow me to do a correction to the LED bulbs you've installed. You've replace everything by W5W (means 5 What) but two of them are W16W (means 16W) - Rear Direction Indicator + Backup. The head of the 15W bulbs are bigger than the 5W ones. Be carefull because in this way you're infringing the law.

My interior blinking indicators are blinking faster as the one outside. What could be the issue here?

I think the relay that controls the blinking also need to be changed. I didn’t manage to fix that on my old e-up but I will try to resolve it on the new one

I know, I'm late to the party... Modern cars don't have relays to switch the blinkers on and off. The mechanical clicking sound is being emulated by a speaker. The faster blinking emulates the behavior of a traditional blinker relay when a light bulb is blown. The current through the LEDs is too low, so the electronics assume a defective light bulb. You could fix that by putting a resistor in parallel.
