This shows you the older way to remove the spool from the trimmer head and restring it. This is how it has been for many years, but there are newer heads with easier ways. The new Ryobi 40 volt trimmer heads now let you just push the trimmer line through the head and twist it onto the spool. I find it just as easy to do it this way, but you can find what works best for you. If you read the instructions, it will tell you to just push some line through the head and twist. If that works for you, great. If not, try this. Thanks everyone for watching. 👍

Do you mind sharing the newer head info? Does it work with this old trimmer? Thanks.

Thank you for this. We have trouble changing the thread every time. Partially because the screw is ground down a bit. Once we watched this it was super easy.

I’ve tried multiple times to ‘just thread the line through’ as per the instructions. It never worked for me. This method was easy fast and effective. It also motivated me to clean the head and mechanisms too since I had it open. Thanks for a helpful video!

Thanks for showing how it is done the old fashion way. I done it this way given I am having problems with the string not coming out when I string it the way Ryobi said to do. Yet doing it the old way might solve the problem and I can get the string to come out on its own when I use the trimmer. It's nice the way Ryobi had done but if the string keeps jamming and will not come out, maybe it is best to manually string it as you shown. :)

Thanks for the video. I was about to give away my damn Ryobi, which is the exact one you have, due to my inability to ever get the stupid line to wind correctly (just kept jamming or not feeding). The instructions it comes with don't detail at all how to do it easily or even correctly.

Didn’t work on my brand new 40v Ryobi trimmer. I figured it out though while you were talking. Mine doesn’t manual wind up that way, wrapping the string around the spool. I run the string through and it has a winder that sucks the string into the spool.

I didn't understand how you get the string to come out while you are using it. Do I need to bump the red screw when the power is on or off?

QUESTION: How do you release more line? I think you say to push down on the top of it and "pull it out"? Wasn't sure of the EXACT process (eg. #!-push down (as you show), #2 - Pull left side string and then right (you can't do both simultaneously . . . Is that how?
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 2 года назад
Yes. The red knob is the bump head that pushes down on the spool and centrifugal force pulls out the line. If you want to do it by hand, you have to push the spool into the head and pull one of the lines to make it feed.

These things are junk...nothing but issues with them....first a bad battery ...second now the bump red bolt has stripped and now cannot remove it..so i think only way to remove it is to cut it out....after i get it off im going to throw it in the trash because that is where it belongs...shame on ryobi for nothing but complete junk

This is a great tool, except the batterys. I bought both the weed eater and the hedge clipper. The weed eater battery lasted the longest at 6 months approx. The Hedge clippers only lasted long enough for one use, the next time I used it the battery was dead, and would not recharge, I took it back to Home Depot and they told me I would have to buy another battery for $99. I of course refused and started using one battery on both the hedge clipper and weed eater, now it doesn't charge. I refuse to spend $99 dollars on a tool that only costs $120 brand new including a new battery, and will only last 6 months at best. RYOBI are total POS tools, beware, pay a little more for a quality tool.
@SeidelRanch
@SeidelRanch 3 года назад
I agree on the batteries. My first one was the same. I got about 6 months on the battery. They would not replace it because it was not "dead", it just would not hold a charge for very long. Home Depot did end up letting me return it though and I bought a new one. The second one has been better.
