I'm addicted to these pakistani mechanic videos because you can appreciate the true work of a mechanic which is, craftman, repairer, imaginative,. not just replacing new parts and throwing away the old ones. These 'true' mechanics are wizards/artists to me.
I have just recently started watching these videos and they are truly amazing. They make things happen no matter what, here if we need a part we drive to auto parts or order online but they don't have that luxury.
It's nice to see somebody re surfing the inside of a break drum, They used to do that here in Canada were they would do break drum and brake disks on cars and trucks now they just throw the drum or the disk in the garbage and they put a new 1 on when the drum for the disk can still be used and resurfaced but nobody wants to do it. It's sad that how this country my country Has become a throw away society don't repair it take it off replace it throw it away sad😢I admire you guys and applaud you god bless you guys👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼🙏🙏🙏🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
It’s all about labour cost and safety, get replaced with new rather than paying for labour and still in doubt that using old drum. North America through these used drums and these people refurbish them and use it again.
Definitely in the US even just a couple years ago it was not difficult to find a auto parts store like O'Reilly or AutoZone that you could get a drum or rotor resurfaced. But all the ones around me stopped to doing it. The other problem is that a lot of these replacement drums are not completely up to specifications. On discs it doesn't matter quite as much as long as they're flat and true. But I've had a hell of a time trying to work with aftermarket drums on a second generation Toyota Prius. The drum has to fit on the hub very accurately meaning the center hole has to be perfectly made or the drum will be out of position as the wheel turns. There are no retaining screws on this particular car to hold it in place. I end up having to go to the dealer and buy factory drums for over double the price. And even those were not exactly machined to what I would call fantastic specifications. They were not as accurately made as the original OEM drums that had came on the car new from Japan. Also the inside surface was not exactly machined very well either. But they worked at least whereas the aftermarket ones would not work at all. There's a lot of this kind of stuff going on with aftermarket parts nowadays. A lot of new junk Parts being dumped in the US and Canada. You want to be especially careful with important electronic sensors. Some cars especially Chryslers are incredibly sensitive to aftermarket parts. Anything electrical and you'll probably find that it doesn't work right or doesn't work very long. Doorman and BWD (Broke When Delivered) especially..
You can bore inner part of break drum till you've have a sufficient thickness of a drum. After that, this will be useless. And it's useful only for trucks, cuz on cars drums more often have mechanical damages
Drums on cars can be resurfaced 2 sun when I was a little boy and that was back in the 60s and 70s drums on cars we're on the front and back disk brakes can be resurfaced drums can be properly resurfaced and safely there is them it there is a limit
@@Mihail.
They drilled new holes in the brake drum right next to the existing holes. I suppose that the new holes were drilled because the new hub holes did not match the old hub holes but don't all of the holes in the drum now weaken it
@@C-J-Outdoors I paid plenty of attention to the video that is why I am saying that I am sure beyond a shadow of a doubt that drilling additional holes in that drum will weaken it. No need to go back and forth on this issue anymore.
The heat affected zone in the weld usually cracks because of the high carbon equivalent of what is being or attempted to be welded. Sometimes you can get around this by preheating the weld area, using a high nickel content rod and then post weld heat treatment. hth
They have welders ,, lathes ,,, air tools ,,, safety flip flops but they can’t make a workbench or lay a board down instead of doing bearings in the dirt…….smh
I still can't understand the need to always work in the dirt. Repair looks like it was done well enough to work. Moving to a cleaner surface would make this a better repair shop all the way around.
In my country there are also foreign workers who come from Pakistan, they can not work at all because in my country workers are applied to maintain safety while working. They do not know how to use safety helmets and safety boots. suitable tools to work. That is why in my country foreign workers from pakistan do not get a place in the industrial sector. They only work in the sales sector.
@@ghong85 That is a shame because they are hard working people living in a place that cares more about their well being then they themselves do. If they simply thought about it and complied with the safety rules they might be great industrial workers.
A few years back, there was a tv series here in Australia, called the bush mechanic, great series showing what people had to do to get their car back on the road, not what the so called expert mechanics would do
The refurbishment on the brake drum was ok, but the bearing placement OMG. This guy should fix only the drum and let the bearing for the mechanics to assembly. He cheap hard on the grease, besides this, fail on placing the right lock ring. Than, to make it the perfect fail, WELD THE RING!!! The mother of this guy will be remembered soon by the next mechanic.
I watch these videos with equal amounts of amazement and horror. They have hundreds to thousands tied up in milling machines yet they don't have a simple hydraulic press that would eliminate over 90% of their hammer and chisel work. But they love to weld parts together and just screw the next mechanic who has to fix their broke repairs.
@@ganeshnarayan5505 This isn't a fancy tools, just a way, dirty way to do something. They have 2 lathes, welder and air tools. It's impossible to think that they can't build a bench for themselves. If they'll move from dusty ground to bench, it reduces a HUGE amount of dirt during assembly. Also, they use hammer for pressing, but I surely think they had money to buy a hydraulic press, or, they have: steel, welder and probably hydraulic jack (or they definitely can buy it), so they can build it. Instead of it, they working as our grandfathers did, so what we have for result: technologies changed from that time, but their minds - didn't.
Assalamualaikum. May I asking.. Why didn’t they just convert the hub to a new hub? Why should it be modified? Do they think there is a danger to the truck that will carry the load on the road? Are there no new spare parts?
They have not developed a culture of reliability and responsibility. It's a long uphill battle as they're struggling on making a survival income even when using no care at all.
All these people saying “Good job” have no clue what they are talking about. The jobs in these videos would be laughable if it weren’t actually happening. Zero concern for worker safety and less for the poor drivers that must share the road with these hacked together death traps. Sickening to see the utter lack of concern as they are putting these trucks on the road hauling dozens of tons of load.
You are right but its normal business in 3rd world countries. They didn't care about these things, which is unfortunate. They drilled new hole in drum which cause weak the drum. No one care
That’s the correct way, the bearing race is installed out on the field with a solid metal rod that’s ground flat at the end. Google it snap on tools sells it. OTC tools sells a version that has metal fingers in a round shape with a rod in the middle so you can bash the bearing race in. I don’t understand your comment? Don’t comment on things you don’t have experience with.
I’m from U.S.A I’ve done some “ improvising” myself, because the lack of money. My father also “improvised” but the difference is: My father always told me” Never mess with the brakes, wheels and steering wheels”.
All the videos I’ve watched I didn’t think they had air tools. I didn’t think they had new parts either. They just must be cheap. Some of this stuff is iffy for sure. They like hammers and chisels for sure.
I'd say they probably have economic issues there in that country. If you have the funds for a new brake drum it would probably take a long time to find one.
