My router got reset so I had to get all my google nest devices back on line. If it wasn’t because of this video I wouldn’t have done it. The official google app didn’t help I felt very frustrated till I found your video. Additionally you make it look easy but the fact that we have to go through all of that just because of a wifi network change blows my mind completely.
I'm currently having the exact same issue. I just moved to a new home, and I'm having a tough time getting my cameras from the old house transferred over
Thank you for breaking it down step by step. Trying to figure out how to restart it on my own was more stressful than going through Army Basic Training
We tried for 3 days to reconnect our doorbell to new wifi and once we found this video & followed all the steps it WORKEDDDD on the first try. THANK YOU
BEST VIDEO!! I inherited 2 google nest doorbells with the purchase of my house. I've watched way too many videos that didn't get me anywhere. Yours is the first video to help me understand how to reset them so I can use them. Thank you so very much!
We ended up exchanging this model for the slimmer version ru-vid.comUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU because it was too wide for the only door trim area that made sense to mount it on. However, we should have just noted the dimensions prior to purchasing. Otherwise, we love the doorbell. It works perfectly, and the video is very clear, even at night.
Thank you! Thank you! I spent FRUSTRATING HOURS trying to reset based on Google's so-called help! Ugh! They never mentioned a jingle wtf? I owe you big time!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO... I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH MINES FOR OVER 3WEEKS I EVEN HAD A HANDYMAN SET APPOINTMENT FOR THIS COMING WEEEKEND TO DO IT FOR ME BUT thank to you.. you made it look so easy and very understandable ❤
Thank you so much for this video. Spent over 2 hours trying to figure out why my doorbell was not reconnecting after I updated our home wifi password. No idea why they made the reset button impossible to reach
Perfect mate, a couple of menu options were a little bit different but, was able to work through it but, yeah was mainly the factory reset instructions that i didnt know the exact method (cant find my manual :D) but worked perfectly after that, cheers mate
You are amazing ... solved all my problems .. got new router & I have to change everything ... old wifi yadda yadda ... you are the man ! Next are the Google Nest Cameras .. reset also ?
Yep! In principal it's the same process, but there are some differences, I have another video that walks through it here! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rTLvI1S3xbk.html
Power cycle your phone (turn it off completely and turn it back on again after about 30 seconds) bring the doorbell and the phone both inside close to your router or wifi access point, open the google home app, and start the process again. Let me know if you have any luck!
Oh! Make sure that your phone is connected to wifi during the process too. Make sure the wifi symbol in the top corner of your phone screen doesn't go away on you while you try to connect it!
I installed a new modem/WiFi thingy. Had problems installing nest doorbell, but, your video helped solve that. Now I need help connecting my Nest Mini Speakers - totally confused. Got them connected and now they're not. And, I have five smart light bulbs - three from Home Depot and two from KASA. Of course, they're not so smart and I need a reconnect. Can you help me with that?
Not too familiar with the speakers, but the principle should remain the same: Remove from the home app, press and hold the reset button on the bottom of it and wait for the speaker to either jingle or tell you it's about to be reset. After it resets go back to add device > new device > select the nest speaker and follow the prompts. Again that's just an assumption, but it's a good idea for a future tutorial! What brand of smart bulbs do you have?
Hello, great video. Question, have you experienced a NEST doorbell that originally would CHIME(ding-dong sound when button pressed) on the phone(and would also ring mechanical indoors), but now we have noticed it longer rings a chime on the phone when pressed? I am experiencing a button press of the doorbell now only chimes the indoor mechanical chime, but no longer "CHIME's" on the phone, I only get a notification (email or text) on the phone. It seems maybe a firmware update removed the phone actually CHIMING, as I have noticed other folks experiencing this same issue. Any thoughts on this, checking with Google/Nest/etc.. does not seem to provide a solid answer or confirmation...?
I haven't, but I just did a quick search and apparently google removed the feature. :/ If you google "google nest doorbell chime phone" the first result should be a discussion in the nest community forum about how it was removed. Not much help, I know, but I hope I answered your question! 😄
The only option I have is to select google nest doorbell wired. I chose not to wire mine. Instructions wouldn’t let me go any further. Now what do I do?
I moved to a new home and have a new router. I removed the device from Google Home then tried to reconnect. I have done the hard reset about 5 times and tried to set up device. Each time Google Home says, “Something went wrong.” and I my only option is to Exit Setup. Any ideas why my doorbell doesn’t connect anymore?
Make sure both wifi and bluetooth are enabled, and your phone is connected to the router. I would reboot the phone and see if the problem persists. If it does, sign in to your google home on another family member's phone (if you can) and try to add it from that device. If all devices connected to your wifi network on that router have the same issue, sign in to your router's management portal and check your firewall rules. If your router says "Nighthawk" on it, consider returning it for a better one. Good luck!
This may be a dumb question but if I unplug the camera from the power connection would that be considered a reset? Just wondering because my camera is in a spot where I can't reach it and I don't have a ladder, but I can reach the power connection.
No such thing as a dumb question! On a nest camera, no. There's a battery in the camera that would keep it powered even if you unplugged the power cable. Unfortunately they all require access to the reset button.
Don't worry, the wires are just for power delivery. You can unscrew them, follow along with the video, and screw the wires back on after you re-connect it to wifi.
Followed these steps after setting up a new Wifi network. Worked fine for about 2 days, and went offline and cant seem to get it back. It seems to time out trying to connect, any advice?
If the connection is timing out I would check your wifi signal strength by the doorbell. I have a video on how to do it, along with some fixes: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-17s7C3OEJeU.html Let me know how it goes 👍
@@SaltyTechSupport thanks for the reply, I was resetting it indoors so signal was fine. Found a way: unplugged wifi router and reset it, turned cellular data off on phone, followed the reset/setup steps as reco’d - boom finally online again!
Mines just not connecting at all and doesnt bring up the wifi network screen. It keeps telling me to move my closer to the door bell? Its been removed from google home and we have a new router. Not sure why its not bringing up the wifi networks
Yeah usually it will try to use your phone as a bridge to your wifi network when initially connecting, and it'll try to force a bluetooth connection. If you already have the doorbell next to you when it gives you that message, make sure bluetooth is on, or try turning it off to see if it lets you continue without it.
Worked like a charm! turned off blue tooth then on again and no issues. thanks so much you! I was trying for hours before I found this video@@SaltyTechSupport
It's not giving me the option to connect to Wi-Fi I've followed all the steps and at this point it just says make sure your device is connected to the Wi-Fi and try again or exit set up. Any ideas?
Hmm. I would try with the bluetooth on your phone off, if it is off already, turn it on and try it with the bluetooth on. It can be finnicky sometimes, but messing with the bluetooth has worked for me in the past. Let us know how it goes!
@@SaltyTechSupport thanks for your reply, I saw that you recommended turning the phone off and back on which worked. Ha that's usually my only go to with tech. Thanks, it's back up and running :)
I've had it before where it doesn't make a noise too. I was able to re-add it just as long as I held down the reset button for long enough. If you've held it for that long go through the rest of the video and see if you can re-add it.
You'll probably have to download the videos to your device before you do the reset. I don't think google gives you the option to keep them in the home app, but it should give the option to download clips you want. Look for 3 dots on or near the clip that you want in the app, press it, and you should get some options. One of them should say "download".
@@SaltyTechSupport just figured it out. There’s a small hole in the back of the camera for reset. If you use a pin and hold it for 5 seconds, it will restart the doorbell camera without wiping it out. But if you hold it for 12 seconds, it will do a factory reset which wipes out all the video history.
Remove the db from the wall mount, bring it inside and plug it in to a charger, then try to view live video. If it says "doorbell is charging" or "doorbell unmounted" you know that it's online at least. Also, head out to where your db is mounted, and make sure your phone is connected to wifi, then run a speed test to see what the speeds are out by the doorbell. Anything less than 5 megs down/up tends to give the doorbell issues.
@saltyseconds4826 so when trying to add doorbell I get stuck when trying to reset it. Iam using a clip in the back of the doorbell and ot does nothing, no lights at all. So nest app keeps saying to reinstall it cause is not getting any power. So I can't do anything about it:(
@@futbol1972 plug it in to usbc and see if you get any lights, leave it plugged in for a while just so it has a chance to charge, then try the process one more time.
@saltyseconds4826 ok just so you know my nest doorbell is the wire one. I have it wire to my door bell. So u want me to disconect the wires from the wall and connect the nest doorbell to a usb and try to install it from there?
@@futbol1972 Yes. Just like in the tutorial take it completely off of the wall mount so you can press the button on the back. Just like in the tutorial re-adding the doorbell in the app is gonna be one of the last steps. You might have to disconnect the power wires to reach the button but you might not depending on how much slack you have. Again, just follow the tutorial from the beginning, remove the wires as needed, and let me know if you get stuck anywhere.
(Google Translate)
