I have a Whirlpool side by side. When I changed the filter a few weeks ago, the little latch on the door did not catch the filter to pop it out. I had to remove the entire bottom panel, pull the entire filter casing out, and sort of re-set the little filter door. What a pain!
It's recommended that you turn off the water to the fridge itself, but you don't need to turn off your house water. You can check your fridge waterline for a valve or consult your user's manual. Thanks for watching and happy changing!
Many of the newer refrigerators with water filters come with a "plug" that can be inserted into the water filter slot, essentially bypassing the need for a water filter. In a home with a whole home water filtration system, using a filter for the water and ice from the refrigerator would be a good idea.
Anything that is not the name-brand filter that comes with the fridge! So not using a Samsung filter in a Samsung fridge, for example. Thanks for the question!
