Ok, but what an utterly complicated and un-necessary rigmarole for refilling. Here's the simple way. Drop all of the old TF from the pan and filter into the container. Measure it (4Li + 2.5 cups). Pour 4 li+ 2.5 cups into the funnel. Dah daaa!

I just finished my 2021 Mazda CX 30 AWD Turbo trans oil change and filter and gasket. Ordered Blauparts kit with FX oil. Worked fine...Trans holds 8 liters and only 4 liters and 150 ml came out. So I ordered more FX Fluid to flush more out in a week or two. Watched this video first was good. Measuring what came out is key.

Engine oil can be called lifetime fluid too if you expect it to die in 50k miles or less. It’s a horrible trend in new cars to call transmission fluid lifetime.

lifetime fluid is a horrible lie. What lifetime is it anyway? The lifetime of it as it struggles to run with old worn out fluids? Volkswagen did a similar thing advertising lifetime fluid. Now a lot of their cars failed around 60,000 miles. If you took your vehicle to a good transmission shop they would change it. They know that all of those things should be done. They are just advertised as having lifetime fluids so they seem to need less maintenance. It doesn't change the fact that fluid changes are needed if you plan to keep your vehicle. Even the most reliable vehicles should have it done. Don't wait until it is already on its way out. By then it is already too late! Maybe fresh fluid may help get a few more miles out of a damaged transmission but I would not take the risk. If it fails on the highway it can be very bad!

@Mancavedweller1
@Mancavedweller1 Месяц назад
Yeah right, the fluid doesn't need to be changed so Mazda can sell more cars when otherwise perfectly good transmissions fail. Plenty stories of cars that have lasted a few hundred thousand km when engine, transmission, etc, fluids and filters are regularly changed. Of course manufacturers don't want that as they won't sell as much. Whenever possible I don't "change" my fluid, I do a complete transmission flush to completely displace all the old fluid and replace it with new. I've always hated the idea of mixing new fluid with the old.

Lifetime oil does not mean 25 years or 50 years or 100 years. The life time of the car is 5 years, life time of a gearbox is allso 5 years or less. It's the factory waranty wich reprisents a life time of a car part. So if your brand new car has a factory waranty of 3 or 5 years, that is the life time of your car. Any time after that is pure luck that evry thing continues to function....they don't make than as they use to....

@@TonicofSonic we've never had any major issues with mazdas, aside from this transmission fluid debacle that is hitting many manufacturers, and the notorious CX-7 turbocharged 2.3L engine. I have an '08 mazda 3 2.0L with 265,000km that is flawless, no leaks, no codes, nada, which uses tons of Ford OEM parts. My uncle has a 2012 mazda 3 with around 140,000km that is also flawless, and my mom's '18 at 80,000km is flawless. thanks for showing the location of the dip stick. "looks dirty" and actually "dirty" are two different animals. sometimes fluid will change color (darken) when exposed to heat, but is still technically good as far as the active ingredients/chemical makeup go. the only real way to tell if the "dirty" looking fluid is actually bad is to have it tested to see if the active/chemical bits are still in sufficient quantities. Yes, I agree in changing the fluid after a specific amount of time/distance driven; but you can't always go on looks or color.

Another mechanic on RU-vid pointed out that transmission filters like this one are designed to only catch metal fragments and particles, not the fine stuff that an oil filter is made for. He also said that, unlike an engine oil filter that is under pressure, a transmission filter has no pressure on it. For these reasons he says it's totally unnecessary to replace the filter, and therefore removing the pan is also not needed. Drain and fill only -- unless you're having problems with the transmission.

@DraftProject

I also heard it from other people especially from the dealer itself. Upon experience, I guess it won't be dangerous if did correctly. The moment it becomes dangerous when done incorrectly like having or putting insufficient oil, wrong way of measuring fluid level and more. Filters do get dirty overtime, and it comes to the point that it needs to be replaced as well as the fluids.

Only issue with that is you would get mechanics also offering the slightly pricier but "more thorough" oil flush, which can do more harm than having left the old fluid untouched. All you want to do is a drain and fill, never a flush as it can dislodge safely deposited debris and potentially leave it in more sensitive locations.

Hey, the Mazda Owner's Manual states that the capacity of Skyactiv G 1.5L has the capacity of 7.2L of transmission oil. Your method only use around 4.6L. How do you justify the volume? Can the oil volume inside the transmission (filter + pan), actually decreased due to wear and tear, thus you need to refill full 7.2L, or simply 4.6L considered as adequate (though, not ideal, perhaps??)

You over dramatised getting that sump off … you only need a small fine screwdriver lightly taped in between the seal and the pan unsticks

If you have socketed bits they will be better than an Allen key. Just be careful not to strip the drain plug with it putting it back in.

Got it. Indeed it is kinda scary sometimes when using the allen key. Gonna change anytime soon. Thanks a lot!
@charleshines2142

@@DraftProject I am also careful to find an exact fitting one too. I don't like feeling any play in that bit when I insert it in a plug or bolt. I know there is often a very tiny bit but I at least try a few for the best fit if I don't know the size. What is worse is that some cars have those bolts that need a triple square bit. Some call it a splined bit. Some people might attempt to use a Torx or Allen bit in those. That is a big mistake unless it is so loose it is about to fall out!!! On a Volkswagen I had the brake calipers were mounted with those. You can imagine the frustration of ruining one of those bolts in such a small place. To make it worse those bolts are infamous for being easily ruined if the bit is not all the way in because it was crammed full of dirt.
@DraftProject
@DraftProject Год назад
@@charleshines2142 I really appreciate the information that you had given me. It really is a pain in the ass. It's like telling us that these cars with special bolts should only be serviced in the dealers. Specific tools like the ones you've mention are pretty hard to find. Therefore, it is not DIY friendly, leaving us the choice to take it to a shop, or force it, destroy it and change it with an alternative bolt. Thank you very much!! Take care!

Hey Draft, thank you for making this tutorial so helpful! Question for you, I want to do two drain and fills because my 2012 Mazda 2 in total has almost 8 quarts but I know I won't be able to get them all out with just one drain. My question is, how long do I have to wait in between drains to do the secound drain? Should I first do the 1st drain and refill, then Drive for 20minutos and then do the secound drain but this time also change the fliter and clean the pan? What do you suggest? Thank you!
@DraftProject
@DraftProject 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for commenting! For your question, 15-20 minutes drive should do. That's actually a good plan. That will totally clean the transmission. As for our recommendation, changing transmission filters should be done if the vehicle has reach 50,000 Km. If it only reached 25,000 on the clock, it is not necessary to change the filter, not unless if the vehicle has been bought used and you want to change it since you don't have any ideas on what the previous owner did to the vehicle. Also, another exception is if you want it to be totally clean, then go for it. I would do the same thing if I were in the same case. Hope it helps. Sorry for the late response. Thanks and take care.

The Torque for the pan bolts is between 8 and 10 N/m. For the filterbolts I sugest to do the same as it has only to hold the filter in place. The torque for the drain plug I don't know. Strange enough my drainplug did not have a gasket/washer.

Hey man. 2016 mazda owner here, im really really a noob at anything mechanical. My car is at 70k Kms now, do you think if I just drain the transmission oil and put new oil it it would still be beneficial? I don't really want to taking the oil pan off etc.. as im a bit scared and dont have a lot of the tools... Thanks man
@DraftProject
@DraftProject 4 месяца назад
Yes, it would still be beneficial. The fluid does the job on everything. But of course, you get the idea that the filter is drenched on old fluid, which would basically mix with the new fluid. It would still work. But remember that filters have limits too. If that's the case, perhaps you should start looking for shops that could do the whole job for you. Hope it helps man! Take care

I would delay it until I found an original one because it's hard to rely on it since these transmissions are delicate and sensitive. Even though these are well made brand of ATF, there is no assurance that these will work perfectly.

I'm not exactly sure about it since we don't have a 1.3 variant here. But as a general rule and if it has the same year range model, yes. These would always have the same transmission but has different ratios and engine.

If it does meet the standards and specification, it can be used. But actually, I don't really recommend it. It's kinda hard to gamble when it comes to transmission since they are quite expensive to repair or replace once damaged. If you can afford the FZ fluid from Mazda, it's better.
