Easiest explanation ever. So grateful for this video. I was going to send my whip away to have fall replaced. Won't have to now. Thank you for sharing this knowledge in an easy practical way.

Whip number 2687 on your web site is the most dazzling whip I ever saw :) It is most kind of you to share your talent as the art of whip making is so rare. I have wanted to learn how to make whips for decades but have endlessly struggled to acquire the knowledge until I found you on wonderful youtube Thank you so very much for sharing the secret art of whip making. You are truly inspiring :) :) :)
Wow, I have been looking at some of your youtube clips and your website also, I've never seen such outstanding quality. I think your work is truly amazing!
Thanks Bernie.. How short is too short on the Fall before you concider replacing it. My Fall is 17 inches long and it was 32 inches.. Should I relace it? ToddB
@ToddB987 Years ago the trend was to have falls 18 inches long as standard, now around 30 inches is the norm. If your whip is still cracking ok and you are not causing any damage to the plaited part of your thong keep using it but keep an eye on it.
You will find it will be tight anyway but in case it's not just tighten the strands at the end by giving them a tug with a pair of pliers. The nail is called a bullet head nail. Kind Regards Bernie.
Bernie ive gotta question for you, ok now i understand why you use a quality dressing with a quality whip, but why is it you don't recommend neadsfoot oil, is it just that low of a quality or is it not supported to dress leather or? i hope that you can answer me on that one. Have a good day.
I wouldn't let it get any shorter than 12 inches but having said that if your whip is still cracking ok you could leave it on a little longer just don't let it get to short or you could damage the plaited part of your whip.
Thank you bernie i thought the dressing might not of done anything for the leather or cause deterioration of the leather. From what it sounds like neadsfoot has water in the formula, as i certain your aware of water is none good for leather.
@gomergrifin I use a leather dressing called Jay El but I don't think you can get it in Russia. You can make up your own with a mixture of fat, beef or mutton.Fat from around the kidneys is best, and soap and water. I can not give you the proportions but if you look around the internet you should be able find a recipe for it. Just google recipe for leather dressing and you should be able to find something.
