How many time do u take to mirror polish a facet ? I don't know if its my lap or my technique but it can take me 15 minutes more to polish a litle facet and i don't know if its normal ( i have a copper lap and path through 320 - 600 - 3000 - diamond paste polish ) on a aqua marine
I need to ask, what is the minimum ammount of disks i can use to do lapidary work? i cant afford 500$ in disks, so im wondering if i neeed to start buying them one by one till i have enough to get the machine. if you had to chose the fewest disks needed, what would they be?
Minimum you will need a 240 (preforming) and 600 grit(in well used condition, to produce a smooth surface ready for pre polishing. otherwise an 1200grit also) Minimum one Metal Lap for prepolishing e.g. Bat Lap or Copper for 8k (Polycristaline Diamond) prepolishing and a polishing lap e.g. Darkside for polishing with Oxides.
amazing video! I definitely enjoyed this equipment video, thanks for making and sharing it i have two questions 1- is there any need to use water drip during polishing? 2- is tin lap made of pure "Sn" element (like the zinc lap in the video) or its an alloy of some kind?
Thank you 🙂 with pleasure👍 1. No need to use Water, the tiny amount of oil is enough. 2. Most Tin Laps are Tin Alloy but for example UltraTec has a pure tin lap (A pure Tin "old reliable" Fine grained rolled tin laminated to a master lap producing an excellent final polishing lap)
Hello. Thank you for your video.. Tell me please, do you moisten the lap during the pre-polishing with BATT lap? If yes, how much water do you use? Thank you very much!
Thanks for watching, Evgeny. I don't moist the lap with water, I just use a tiny amount of the snake oil (Put a small drop of oil on a paper towel and wipe it over the disc, then wipe with a dry towel once or twice before apply the diamond.) WD40 works well too. Btw: After some time, you can wipe off the slurry (works several times) with a clean, dry paper towel and continue polishing.
@@GermanGemcutter Ok. Thank you for your answer. I tried to work it this way with WD40... But swarf is disturbing... And it occurs very quickly. I use a hardly dropping warer instead... As a result - very clean lap and nice polishing. I wanted to get how do you do. Maybe you are doing your individual secret way))) Ok.. thank you very much! Take care
Thank you for the video. 🙏 You could use a charging roll to charge the diamond. I'll upload a video this week on my channel. Please check it out and let me know what you think. 🙂
Thanks for watching🙂 No, check my Video here, there i show how to polish with oxide on a Darkside lap. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-olof6tZ64Bo.html
Thanks 🙂 I dont know if it is a solution for ditches, i didnt have the problem up to date but i would try a method, i have seen in a Video by Steve Moriarty. If the ditches are not to big i would try it. Mr Moriarty shows how he cleans a BATT Lap with Lava Soap. It is like a total refresh of the surface. If you try it please let us know if it is successful. Here is a link to Mr Moriartys Video. Check his Video here ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nnX8ate7778.html The process starts at about Minute 54
Hi, i use a tin lap for polishing. I charge my laps with regular 8k to 50k grit, whichever I need. However, I have noticed that as I polish, some of the resulting slurry, what shows to be, minute metallic flakes. The surface of the lap looks irregular at some points. I am afraid I am damaging the lap. Do you know anything about this problem?
No, I have never seen such metallic flakes in slurry before. Do you also have metallic spots on the polished facets? Btw: There is a good guide by Steve Moriarty on how to clean and recover the surface of metal polishing laps with lava soap. I cant remember in which of his Videos he showed this but i am pretty sure it was in one of his series about how to cut and polish gemstones. Here is a Playlist including both series: ru-vid.com/group/PLwBsvcRI6nW-igkdv6wktCq26Z8x2ZH5T
hello, you put only this tiny line with the diamond stick and it is enough to charge? i tried to charge a zinc + with 8k stick from gearloose, i put way more diamond and had to put more and more to get it working not too slow but had a lot of scratching so my question is for 8k prepolish you only put as much diamond as on the video here? thank you very much for your videos!
Hi, for the first charge i used about this amount and the same for prepolishing my Stones, yes. What material you tried to prepolish on your Zinc+ Lap? Does the scratches have a metallic shine?
@@GermanGemcutter do you ship to venezuela? how do i contact you and talk directly with the team to give you the address? i also need to ask for the address of the team.
