So the ecu monitors certain sensors, the MAF being the one he unplugged. This sensor, if it does not match the TPS for what the ecu wants to see for it to run efficiently it will go into a type of limp mode that ignores said MAF sensor, so when he unplugs it and it runs still rough it was already being ignored by the ecu due to problems. If it died, it means it was being monitored, and the fuel air mixture spike caused a stall out. I would not plug it back in while the engine was running. This could arch the ecu or the sensor, causing damage. You can spray clean the MAF when the sensor is cold to try and save it. Just remember to clear the code after cleaning to see if it duplicates, and if it does, it can be the sensor ( most likely ), the harness, the ecu ( least likely ).
yeah brother all you say was correct I've done already checking the possible cause before I do that test. Thanks for your nice tips to all my commentors viewers very appreciated.
Because of stupidity , i did this think and I have 4 codes . After cleaning all codes 1 stays - p 0113 honda accord 17. Which it says , temp sensor - i think they are together , with Maf sensor . Did you know how to check , what can be a problem ? 😮😮😮
@@davidkuzmanov3488 ok bro no worries try this remove your IAT sensor check if it’s working check with multimeter to read the function, check the harness connection, check your air filter housing if dirty and air filter replace if dirty or clean with air, then scan again to clear the fault code hope it will help ok.Thanks for sharing your problem.
@@ivegotdragonflies yeah bro the ecu detect some problem if your tps or iat sensor was defective but one them you found where is the problem it will run good just do it first what the scanner says before you do anything. But remember not all cars stop when you unplug the TPS harness connection some other still running and TPS still good ok.Just check all the vacuum hosses around the intake or your intake gasket check also ok
Maybe you buy a wrong one or different from old one function.Or else the one was defective not all new is good there sometimes factory defects that's why ok so if your old one is good don't change return the new one to auto parts ok
There are so many kind cause of problem what you gonna do to use scanner first so that you can identify the cause of hesitant to acceleration. But this testing it won't damage your ECU ok this is only double checking of maf sensor how it works when disconnecting ok.But try to clean your throttle body or check your fuel filter and fuel injector maybe one of them is bad
@@bossbokitv7070 try to clean your fuel pump filter,or the pressure of fuel pump need to check, injectors, then sparkplug because the scanner can not detect fault for that parts maybe one of that was problem ok
Some car still engine run when you unplug and some car model it will stop when you unplug so don't worry. If you guest there is a problem of maf sensor just do the scan first before you replaced to make sure. Thanks your nice question
It won't always kill the car. Some vehicles will go into a sort of "fail safe" like a limp mode. Some vehicles, like my 08 Pontiac G6, will (with it unplugged) use the throttle position sensor and the true throttle position to assume the fuel air mixture. This is NOT a definitive test.
@@Jml1064 if you think that a car going into a default strategy is WRONG based off your argument which is essentially "nu-uh", then prove it wrong there and don't worry, I'll wait for you to troll forums for some "personal examples you have". Lol.
To diag a MAF all you need to do is monitor the MAF data stream on a scam tool. An engine will draw in a certain amount of air per engine size. To diag look at the data stream for the MAF sensor with the engine at idle. Data is read in grams per second. A 3.0 liter engine MAF sensor should report at least 3.0 grams per second at idle. If the reading is higher than 3.0 grams per second your MAF sensor is fine. If it's below the spec inspect your engines Intake system for leaks. Look at the air filter condition. Inspect for exhaust leaks ahead of the first O2 sensor. If all is well no leaks and the sensor still reads below 1 gram per second for each liter of engine size, remove the sensor and inspect for dirt or contamination on the hot wire in the sensor. Clean it with MAF sensor spray cleaner and retest. If the readings are still below normal recheck your previous work for vacuum and exhaust leaks and if all is well replaced the sensor What this video showed is the fact that your engine will not run with the sensor disconnected. It doesn't prove anything as far as the sensor's integrity or correct operation. I have fixed many many other techs comebacks after they replaced a MAF sensor but didn't verify engine integrity. Usually it's a vacuum leaks in the intake stream or an exhaust leak at the manifold doughnut gaskets. Retired after 40 years as a GM tech. It amazes me how many people don't bother to read or understand the proper diagnosis in auto repair.
All you said bro it’s true but I’ve done already that all the test before I’m doing this last test by disconnecting the harness just to double check only ok.Thanks your nice experience
Will bad maf sensor cause cooling fan to come on also and stay on while car running? Mine wont shut off and i get hesitation when check engine comes on...plus check engine pops on when car starts 2 mins after and car isnt warmed up i even last week bought new coolant temp sensor
Yeah if you have problems of Coolant temperature sensor is not working your radiator fan will be affected not automatically working and it can cause of overheat your engine during long drive.
My 2017 GMC Acadia had this problem along with most dash lights staying on. My thermostat was the problem. Bigger problem was the $1100 to replace it. 7 hours labor as top of eng had to be removed to get to it in back of eng.
Not all makers , have code for turning off your vehicle when Maf is disconnected. Some just fall back to fail safe defaults and engine keeps running and you can end up changing MAF which can be quite expensive.
Possible.but there’s a lot of problem your car won’t start.try this check fuel pump, cam shaft sensor, cranks shaft sensor, check the timing ,ignition coil or high tension ok hope it helps
when I disconnect the sensor, the car continues to work, but the check engine and EPS lights up on the instrument panel... the car has weak dynamics and smells from the muffler... idle speed is fine, the oxygen sensor is new and original... could there be a problem with the MAP sensor?
EPS that mean Electric power steering check the connection, check pcv valve, and cathalytic converter, check your oxygen sensor.Your Map sensor thats good try to check what saying maybe it helps ok
Un-plugging your MAF sensor doesn't prove it failing only a big leak in your vacuum system would cause your vehicle to shut off, a small leak will cause this vehicle to keep running because other sensors and your PCM would compensate for the disconnected MAF sensor.
You have point but that test just to prove and double checking only how does maf sensor work while disconnecting the connection.Because that car I've done plug in to OBD2 and Maf sensor was faulty. But thanks everyone to all of your lovely comment experience in your car.I try my best to responds all the comment
@@CruisinCaprice but with something designed FOR the MAF. I know you shouldn't have to say that... but you're gonna eventually get a guy who tries to clean it with a can of brakekleen or something 🤣
I bought the cheapest maf sensor online. It lasted 1 month. The engine would no longer run. I unplugged it and could drive it all day. Granted, it didnt run great, but with that bad sensor the engine would not run at all. Once disconnected it ran. Crude diagnostic, yet effective.
@@awelsemenseon my 01 Nissan Sentra the OBD 2 will not link up and this is a problem as the parts store is unable to also get it to link up. The cig lighter works as I was told this is part of the power circuit if it didn't work, then neither would the scanner.

I have the same car, when I unplug it stays on so I bought a oem one from my dealership and still stay on with hesitation doesn't turn off any reason why this is can it be another part?
Try first run the vehicle and when the engine little bit hot when you come back unplug the maf sensor connectio if the engine stop it means your maf sensor working properly to ecu.Maybe the hesitation other cause ok
Yap it depends upon the model of your car specially car with electronic control with ecu most of them turn off if you disconnect. Thanks all the different nice comments and more experiences of your car
Not all car capable for this test depends upon the model of your car some car still engine running when you disconnect.I think your new Maf was good just do first scan using OBD2 so that you will know what’s the problem before you change any parts ok thanks
Huwag boss ok yan kasi di lahat ng engine mag off pag tinanggal mo yong harness connection as long as walang fault code na lumabas sa scan ok yang Maf mo at saka pag problima pwedi muna man yan linisan ok.Yang test na yan na scan kuna yan at sira yong maf niya. But hindi capable sa lahat na sasakyan
I watched your video , after I swapped the MAF out the car still ran really rough. I even unplugged the new sensor and the car continued to run. Any idea ?
Some car it's running even if you disconnect the harness connection so your Maf sensor still ok but if you feel there's problem try to scan OBD2 to check the fault ok
After this how do we reset? Cause after unplug my car giving other codes like sun sensor and still stalls but i only clean didnt change mass air.@@awelsemense
@@almministrys1659 to reset and eliminate some code showing on dash just disconnect the negative terminal from battery wait 10 minutes then put it back or you can clear the code thru scan tools if you have ok

Does not work for my car. Btw the engine should have stop twice after unplugging the connector. Your car shut of only sometime after unplugging. What I am sure work for all cars is that once you unplug the connector and start hearing your engine hesitate or stop, the Maf sensor is working for sure. To confirm if the sensor is working optimally though you should to a DTC scan.
Does not work this for all cars defend the model of what car you have only showing this tips to confirm that maf sensor not working. Dtc already done maf sensor bad ok.Thanks your comment
yes you can but make it sure before you do that scan first with scan tools your car If you guest bad maf sensor.Because this test doesn't work for all car model it depends
It won't damage bro it's normal check engine showing on dash because you disconnect the connection just only to prove the your maf sensor working or not ok

If 22204-22010 yung sakin yung nakita kong orig na part din is 2204-***** basta yung 2nd number na yung nag iba. Ok lang kaya yun? Gagana parin kaya?
ok lang yon basta same yong terminal wire harness connection niya doon sa loma at yong housing niya nevermind sa number kasi importante yong function terminal connection sa ilalim is magkapariho para mabasa ng ECU.kasi pag hindi same yong terminal ma detect ng ECU faulty Maf sensor ok.Thanks
Not all car when you unplug engine stop some car model still running that's good as long as you don't see any problem no worries about that. Then if you found any problem scan first using OBD2 before you change anything ok.
The difference between good and bad sensor once you disconnect the connection if good sensor the engine stop then if it is bad sensor when you disconnect the connection harness still engine running. But it depends upon your car model
I check , my Honda 17 And now have code p0113 I think i fa.. the sensor . I clean the code , but when you turn the key to On , check engine flash and go away. Do you know , how to reset Maf sensor ??😢
It's a good question yes of course can cause of black smoke during engine running it can cause of imbalance fuel and air mixture ratio injected to the combustion chamber, but most cause of block smoke different issues like air filter dirty, turbo, fuel injectors, fuel pump faulty. If I have time I will responds all your problem experience in your car or trucks just leave your comment.God bless
There are more causes why car high consumption of fuel try this bad fuel pump, clogged injectors, bad, oxygen sensor, bad spark plug, dirty air filter.try to check all those I mentioned. Thanks your questions

my car doesnt start on cold starts. i detached iacv and it started but rpms went all the way high but when i screwed iacv back. same thing happened, car didnt start
My advice is just do the scan first so that you will know what is the problem because there are many cause of problems that cars it won,t start. specially petrol engine.Hope it helps thanks for Sharing.
Just clear the fault code first then running the engine test drive your car. After scan again if the fault code still there that’s the time you need replace or else clean first with CRC cleaner and put back in do same procedure so that if your problem solve no need to buy a new one ok
I’m just replacing my maf sensor as well because scanner say maf sensor it’s faulty then I’ve done cleaning first scan again but same fault code that’s why I’ve decide to replace it then all good
Question is what was the issue exactly because we see in the first impression, the engine continues to run. The MAF connector is the same as the second video where the engine stalls.
The first Maf sensor was faulty that's why when you unplug it won't stop the engine still running after I replaced it with new one it work properly when you unplug the engine suddenly stop its mean its working already the maf sensor
My car does the opposite.. even with a new OEM MAF sensor, the car dies and wont start with it plugged in.. but runs (like shit cause i have a bigger turbo and tune) without it plugged... Its not the maf and i dont know wtf it could be.. 2.0 tsi e888 gen 1 cbfa (beetle turbo)
OK do this first cleaned your oxygen sensor or replaced genuine oxygen sensor parts, clean your throttle body, check the wiring of Maf sensor if it is good or bad, check all the hoses vacuum lines if there's no damage and air leak.Hop it will help to solve the problem of your car.
@awelsemense no codes related to o2 sensor.. These are the codes pulled while maf is unplugged Of course the maf code Auxiliary coolant pump relay Fuel pressure regulatory valve ( open circuit/ short to ground) Supply relay for engine components ( electrical error in circuits) Secondary air injection pump relay ( short to ground) And cooling fan 1 control circuit I'm doing injectors (because I rushed and bought them thinking that was the problem but doubt it now) and carbon cleaning this weekend/ today... My wife has the same car as me.. 2012 beetle turbo 2.0tsi e888 Gen 1 cbfa... hers is still stock, mine is fbo ko4 turbo and uni tuned. I'm going to start with switching relays ... (better than buying them and waste money if I don't need them) I've already spent $370 for a oem maf and 400$ for injectors, seals, and intake manifold gasket... I'm going to try to find the problem b4 I do my injectors and carbon cleaning.. if it not a relay then next will be my upstream o2 (downstream is tuned out because 200cell catted dp) After that, I'll check my fuel pumps lpfp and hpfp.. And if that's not the problem, I give up🤷♂️🤣
@awelsemense what's crazy is I drove the car fine.. I even raced a 5.7 charger ( put busses on him) on the way to my chiropractor apartment... Backed into my parking space idled for about a minute (help cool the turbo off) then shut it off Come out 30 minutes later.. start the car and it dies... no signs or symptoms of anything...
Nice comment just to test it if your Maf sensor is defective when you unplug the harness connection if engine still running that means your maf sensor is not working properly need to replace

That is not true to really know if the sensor is bad you need a scanner that can monitor voltage and air flow with long term and short term fuel usage do not use this test to test your MAF
Scan already done before i do that test to make its sure it's bad Maf that's why I disconnect manually notthing wrong with that test if you hesitate the computer diagnostic. by the way thanks all your experiences in your own car
