It is time to really make some progress on that 388" small block Chevy I am building for my friend Todd's 1980 Chevy Z/28 we call project Fast Times. This video is part of our "how to" and "DIY" engine building playlist that goes over each step of the engine building process. In this episode, we show you how to use Plastigage to check main bearing clearance and also how to torque down the main cap stud kit we purchased from ARP. We also go over what tool are need and explain in detail everything you will need to complete this process. It is a lengthy video, but it is a step by step guide on how to perform this process. So sit back and watch Jimmy and I work, you might just learn something new!

There aren’t too many nice late second gen Camaro Z/28 cars left. Chevy made sure to design several areas for rust to imminently creep in. I used to own a 1972 RS and a 1978 Type LT and I’ve always wondered WHY Chevy made them so darn heavy?? It’s a supposed to have the image of being quick but it outweighed many of their luxury cars!

Definitely was a gorgeous car. But you are right. They rusted bad and were heavy!

Arent you not supposed to touch the bearing with bare fingers or is that ok?

You can, just want to make sure you clean them before assembling
