WD 850x 2TB and I am very very happy with it, I had to purchase this drive after my Samsung 2 Tb 980 Pro FAILED, it failed in a weird way... From my perspective compared to how hard drives fail with my past experiences, according to Samsung's magician software, I had 18 bad blocks, in a nutshell the failure was a particular function within Windows and that was copying files... Everything else was working fine, there is actually a RU-vid video kind of illustrating what happened, with another RU-vid channel that I participated in, we did a remote repair to try to resolve this issue. The failure was just kind of puzzling to me, and figuring out what was actually wrong going through the steps created a pretty good video for the channel. Brian, please show me what you had in mind to demonstrate something in the task scheduler, I would like to know if you can manipulate that, there are other reasons why I am so interested in the task scheduler and being able to manipulate it or add something to it, it has to do with the deprecation in Windows 10 and 11 of being able to add my own tasks to the scheduler, my usage of the task scheduler was very simple, I would have reminders pop up, and I used it to remind me when bills are due. I have always like how it works it is a little funky to add something as simple as a pop up showing a text screen with the message... But, it is not all that difficult once you tinker with it. IF ... There is any way you know how to program the scheduler to get around this deprecated feature, it was listed as "sending a message" in the message would be a text message on the screen, I technically am keeping a Windows 7 machine alive because of this deprecated feature, I just have not found an easy way to notify me when bills are due or some other function that I need to be reminded about on a regular basis... The outlook calendar to me is goofy, and for me it does not make a whole lot of sense, and I basically have not found any replacement scheduler that is easy to use. So.... Again if you know of a way to manipulate the scheduler to add your own entries which I believe is absolutely possible because, people who make programs and want to access the scheduler like the Western Digital software, if they can get into it... Then I should be able to get into it, just like we did in the old days I suspect, there may be an entry in the registry that will turn everything back on like it used to be but that is just a guess, the program seems to be the same as it was in Windows 7, but features are turned off. Anyways Brian.... HELP ME... If you can 🙂 and please demonstrate what you know about the task scheduler.

But I did bought a 970 Evo Plus for boot drive, and 870 Evo for additional storage. 8:07 I'm actually one of those who tend to abuse drives, have one in my PC, just a 250GB with 150 TBW rating at 88%.

Yes Brian I do regularly check my Samsung Nvme drive with the Samsung Magician software and it is very good sat showing me the health of the drive. Having said that the software will not cover scanning the drive for any bad sectors/blocks etc. Oh and thanks for the heads up on the Seagate tool I had forgotten that one and it can scan whereas the Magician will not as I mentioned previously because the drive is not compatible for the Samsung software which seems rather strange to me??

What is the effect of having an SSD constantly powered on? I have an SSD connected to a router USB port that is used as network storage. I noticed the USB-SSD adapter cable light is always on, suggesting to me that the drive is always energized unlike a drive that is connected to a Windows computer (which I assume powers down since the light is typically off on non-use). There router USB port SSD is formatted as EXT3 (and the router needs that format to be reliable). The drive has warmth to the touch; nothing alarming, but it is definitely powered continually. Thanks.

I have a pair of WD Black Gen 4 NVMe drives that are over 2 1/2 years old, one for my OS and the other for games ..... AIDA Extreme reports 98% life left and the games drive reports 100% since little gets written to it. My first SSD was an Intel 128 GB and it's has to be 10 years old and still going strong and for the last 4 1/2 years is used for nothing but the Windows Page File. Because it's too small to be practical for anything else 4 1/2 years ago I decided to run a little experiment to see how long it would last in a high write environment and frankly I quit worrying about the amount of writes I'm making to an SSD because it's just not a relevant issue anymore. I ran it for two years then gave it to my nephew when I built this new system 2 1/2 years ago and when I checked it last October when I upgraded his 2600 to my old 3700X it still showed 80% life left after all these years and about 4 years used exclusively as a Page File drive. So based on using 20% over 10 years that drive should last 40-50 years, far longer than any mechanical drive could. You can also TRIM your drives from the Windows Defrag Tool and schedule it to TRIM all your SSDs weekly. All TRIM does is make your SSD write faster because before it can make a write is has to delete the data on each block. When I uninstall a game I follow up with a TRIM so when I install a new game it will install faster. I have yet to have a NVMe or SSD fail on me but I stick to known brands, the 3 NVMe drives I've bought a WD Blacks (1 gen 3 and 2 gen 4) and while my first SSD was an Intel and very good all the SSDs I have bought since are from the Crucial MX500 line (seven total). Something that's not often mentioned is you want an SSD that also has a decent chunk of RAM for a buffer. For instance Crucial makes 2 SSDs the MX line with buffer RAM and the cheaper BX line without buffer RAM which is slower but averages $10 cheaper. Personally I don't think it's worth saving 10 bucks
