What kind of generator is needed for a coffee cart or a coffee truck? In this video, I answer how I purchase a generator for an espresso machine, coffee machine and hot water heater.
Generators come in 2 types: 220v and 110v. 220v is double the strength of 110v (here in the US). Most 220v generators will also have 110v plugs, however its not true the other way around. If you have a 220v espresso machine, you will need a 220v generator for your coffee cart or coffee truck.

Couple updates: 1. If you are in Maricopa County AZ, you cannot unplug your water heater....they're hip to our games. So, you'll have to get a water heater that "turns down" if you want to use this style of energy management. Here's the one I use, Bosch 4 gallon: amzn.to/3ej19ig 2. While this is my style of energy management, it's not fool proof. You have cold brew coffee before events. If its a daily thing, making coffee the day before is cumbersome. So, if you want to add in a coffee pot to the equation, just add in the wattage to your total watts. 3. Be mindful of how your generator distributes power. If its 8kw and below, mostly likely through a 30 amp outlet. If its 8kw and above, most likely 50 amp outlet. Thats important when it comes time to wire the inlet or extension cord to your truck. 4. I'm working on an Electrical Ebook for Coffee Trucks. Hope to have it out Summer of 2021. I'll add it to the Ultimate Guide on How to Build Coffee Truck eBook: www.greenjoecoffeetruck.com/pages/ebook Other good Genny videos: Setting up and Dampening my 220v Generator: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-keIXVDBaDRA.html Calculating Wattage Hours for my Coffee Truck (needed for solar panels): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MNVAyZ4o5SY.html

My biggest question: why would you use just one gen when you could use two small ones linked together? (I am thinking: easy to move and if one goes bad you could probably still pull it off while you get another one and getting another one would not be too expensive either). Also, how do you deal with your generators as far as when you get to a location and do your set up? Do you move it around? Is it "fixed" somewhere on the back of the truck/van? Thank you for ur videos, I will be buying the business plan and your book in about a month (I'm too busy right now studying coffee "stuff" in Colombia) 😎

Thanks Bro, do you need a pure sinewave generator or will a standard generator ok to use?

Thanks! I have been looking at a generator that has a 4 prong 50 amp hookup.... they all seem screaming loud. I'll have to have an AC cranking here our I would pass out so my wattage requirements are pretty high. I may look at the larger Westinghouse, 9500 I believe, or the 6500 powerhorse inverter. Also expensive but add a good but of power for a little less than the Honda.

@@GreenJoeCoffeeTruck yup! I had an ATP box built in the front and may add mats and padding to help it with air flow and sound proofing. At 220lbs and 74 decibels, I wont be able to move this myself.

Hey ya... my wife and I are wondering to have our coffee van... doing a café tour for our country... Do you any advice?

Other than enjoy the journey? I guess look at you system and find what are game stoppers, then try to double up on those. For example, if your water source is powered 12v and that 12v goes out, how do you get your water??? Just old military training...plan on Murphy visiting.

Do you need commercial coffee equipment or can I used the basic house stuff
@GreenJoeCoffeeTruck

Most health codes require commercial. And most home stuff can’t keep up with the demand. What kind of home stuff you thinking?

What about an ice maker or freezer running off the generator when the truck/trailers not plugged in? Any advice?
@GreenJoeCoffeeTruck
@GreenJoeCoffeeTruck 4 года назад
I don't think I fully understand your question Cass. When you are not in service and you wish to keep these electronics running, how do you keep them on? You have to plug those guys in. I personally don't use an ice machine. I did at one point but the cost was so high that it wasn't worth it for me. I just pick up 20# bags from Costco or an ice vending machine. But either way, unless you have a battery bank (and method to charge it), you have to plug those appliances into shore power....does that help???

Cassiedi do you have a dometic style. Camping style fridge? Most fridges can run off 12volt with propane connection. When running off 110 you can switch it to 110 and the heating element will run off your generator. Just depends on your setup. If your fridge is 110 only, then you’ll need constant power to it when parked if you have food in there.
@GreenJoeCoffeeTruck
@GreenJoeCoffeeTruck 4 года назад
@@Traumatic911 , I think she was talking about ice makers and freezers. Ice makers basically work off heat sinks, which are another form of heating elements and draw an incredible amount of wattage. I have not seen any propane ice makers that can handle commercial volume. On a busy day, I can easily go through 100 pounds of ice. But you might be onto something with the propane freezer...

Vince... You buy 20 pounds of ice and store it where while in trailer? Some sort of ice bin? Or in a freezer in trailer? Thats where I'm confused. Im on day 3 of watching your videos and trying to figure out if I can pull this off. I know how to make coffee lol not build a business 🤣 Can you just stroll on over to Oregon and help me. K thanks lol

Anyway works. I can’t tell the difference between steamed and kettle in taste. Steamed does produce a nice froth tho!

Can I use a power supply battery for a cart?
@vlavolpa

Probably not. Not enough power. I have a wattage video on my RU-vid that breaks down the wattage. Have you picked up either my truck or cart ebook? I go into more detail there…
