How to Choose a Good Taxidermist 

Would the "deteriorating" deer have looked better or held up longer if it were tanned and mounted by the same incompetent taxidermist? Tanning is NOT essential to producing a quality mount. A dry preserved mount done by an experienced taxidermist will have the same longevity and quality of any tanned mount. His fading comparison? Show the dry preserved piece next to the tanned portion that directly corresponds and not against the darker colors further up the deer's body. He makes it appear as more contrast(or fading) between the colors by showing the two pieces together out of relation. Nothing but a gimmick to sell his work over the other person who uses a different procedure. I'd be more concerned with my taxidermist's skill level rather than if he dry preserves or tans. A meatball taxidermist will produce crap no matter his method of preservation.

Your absolutely right on here. I've got a couple deer I got done "on the cheap" and trust me they look like it too!

My dad left me his deer that he killed when he was 20 and the mount was 40 years old as in gray shape
