Helpful video. I also have a QC and am trying to find a way of functioning with headphones occasionally. I may go for the HD560s

Great video. I have a set of HD650s for mixing and the 990 Pros for "listening" - specifically because of the "pleasing" listening curve you talk about for them as I feel that's going to be pretty reflective of how most people would listen (that slightly warmer/boosted curve in the lower end frequencies) . I got the 650s as part of deal on Sonarworks so while it wasn't a cheap purchase, as a bundle it was a good deal to get the software AND the HD650s. I likely would not have bought them if they weren't part of a sale from Sonarworks and would have gone with the 600s as you suggest. Both the 600/650 are very light, super comfortable and I find I can wear them for hours and hours without fatigue. The double cable isn't as large of an issue as it might seem, and I value the replaceability - but it is proprietary, so it's a trade-off for sure.

Thanks for sharing this great information. Very useful! Have you considered the Shure SRH1840? If so, why did they not make it to your shortlist?
@GuitarStuffChannel
@GuitarStuffChannel Год назад
Glad you liked it. I did put those on my list of considerations, but pretty expensive and no better than any of the similar or lower priced options. Crinacle doesn't rate them specifically, but the other shure headphones get low ratings on his site. The freq graph on them is big on low mids and less at the top end.

My Yama over ears sound like complete crap for my Helix and Amplitube plugins. Yet those both sound amazing through my FRFR cab. I’m on a search to recreate the same tone through my headphones

hello. I would like to know if these headphones are suitable for playing guitar if you connect them to an amplifier? (I have a fender mustang lt25) will there be enough volume or 250 ohms is this a suitable option for such a purpose?

Thanks for the review. Are you still using HD560S? Would you still choose Hd560S if buying today?
@GuitarStuffChannel

Glad it helped. I haven't really updated my research since making this video so I don't know if there is anything new on the market. Otherwise, yes, the HD560S have been fine. The only downside I have noticed is a little audio bleed (fact of life with all open backs) and they are still a little bit tight on my head.

Strangely I have been using gaming headphones with my pod go. I am thinking of getting better headphones. Stupid thing is I have to have 2 sets, as I have my headphones plugged into the pod go for recording guitar and then I have to have them plugged into my focusrite vocaster when I am recording vocals.

Probably Sennheiser HD600. But if there’s no budget you can pay thousands for a pair of headphones.

I disagree with your conclusion that impedance does not matter. What really matters about impedance whether or not a particular pair of headphones will work with your output device's headphone amplifier. You are correct that many guitar modelers and audio interfaces have relatively powerful amplifiers capable of driving high impedance (300 Ohm) headphones to suitable volumes for practical use. This will not be the case with the built in headphones amplifier on your phone or portable music player. If you want headphones that work well with low power amplifiers like those you will want a lower impedance headphone (under 100 Ohms). Another problem is when you have very low impedance headphones and you want to use them with an amplifier that has a high output impedance. For example, my IEM headphones have an impedance of 6 Ohms. The Axe-FX III headphone amplifier has an output impedance of 38 Ohms. This mismatch causes a very poor damping factor in the low frequencies resulting in atrocious sound reproduction despite there being plenty of power to drive the IEMs.

Thank you for your thoughtful comment. Firstly, I agree with your comment about phone/mp3 music players, but this video is about guitar modellers. Secondly, very interesting point about the IEMs.
