I was a teenager in the 80s. We had mousse or gel. Maybe a choice of two or three. But my hair looked better! So after spending a ton of money on hair products to try, i went back to a blob of mousse (and same affordable brand I used in the 80s). Less is more, sometimes 😂
If only we knew we were suppose to scrunch the crunch!! I have a new appreciation for mouse now that I have learned that. I see women out there with the crunchy hair and just want to walk up and scrunch the crunch! lol!!
@@deborahjungermann5061 since I've been paying attention to my own hair, I keep wanting to go up and feel other people's hair to compare! We might both get arrested for improper behaviour involving hair and so best not!
These products aren’t just about hold. They’re about hydration, protection, damage prevention. Don’t forget that mousse is drying and scrunching can cause breakage, especially on dryer hair so you should still be using products for hydration and protein.
Im someone who has been styling their hair curly for nearly 10 years now, and has probably seen hundreds of videos on products and styling- but ive never found a video so informative, to the point and intuitively paced as well as information packed at the same time! You're such a good educator :)
This helped soo much, i’ve been struggling w/ my curly hair journey and u influenced me to start and with all the confusion i just gave up but this video gave me new motivation and a better idea on what to do. Thank you so so much abd welcome back to youtube!!
As a curly haired girlie whose mother has straight hair, I never learned how to actually care for curled hair texture! Maybe I'll start looking like you after this 😂❤ thank you so much!!
The thing i struggle with most is listening to my hair idk how to tell what my hair needs so i cant help it and also idk my hair type how do u know what hair type u are. Can u please make a video on how tk listen to your curls needs and maybe how to figure out ur curly hair type
I'm a man been treating my hair ,straight all the time. (my large family all have straight hair and im waved 2C) Till now i started to notice i need to treat it 'curly'. This video is the best breakdown ever and puts me on the right path with the right guidance to get luscious curls 🤑🤑 I watched the wholee video, because its also entertaining.
Thank you for defining all the products so well, and pointing out who it may/not be good for. I've been searching for something like this for awhile. I'm VERY minimalist when it comes to haircare, so this will help with finding products right for me, hopefully, without ending up with a cluttered bathroom.
something i learned was that some of those that make your hair crunchy are shape holding, and something that helps me get rid of that crunch while still keeping curl definition is just letting it dry and then scrunching after, which breaks it down and softens it after. also, you may be using too much product if it gets crunchy!
it's a great video but it classifies by consistency and name...which is problematic if you go to a shop, you can't test the consistency. In order to know the difference, it would be nice to tell us about the ingreduents : what makes thise products different. You've mention the presences of "butters" in creams, which is a good indicator. This video would be amazingly helpful if it was to do a break down according to the main different ingredients. For instance : dillution water based or alcohol based ? what is the stylish ingredient base we can find in cremes to distinguish them from leave-in (gels, alcohols etc.). Obviously I've enjoyed your video, but I feel i can't use it unless i buy everything and try them in my hand, so i the end, I'm left with an empty wallet (but great curls lol)
I bet she’ll make a video on these! Until then, some tips that work for me. So I tend to look up a certain product, watch some videos on it while styling on hair day haha, and I decide which I want based on the properties Hannah mentioned here, as reported by those creators. Then I narrow it down with experience from there. I also will pop a gel open and squeeze a tiny bit out and rub it between my fingers. I may even put that tiny bit on the end of a curl and see how it feels. I like to shake the bottles to get an idea of consistency. Other things I look for on labels are moisturizing ingredients, how far up water is listed on the label, and what it’s called. Just seeing the word cream vs. soufflé gives you an idea of texture. I don’t tend to like overly moisturizing products, so I tend to stay away from things called, for example, curl milk, liquid gel, moisturizing _____, moisture boost, even elongating products which may also say something like don’t shrink. I also need a good cast, so I stay away from things that say touchable, lightweight, flexible, smoothing, soft hold, “without the crunch.” My hair does love protein. So I do look for words like strengthening, castor oil, protein, silk protein, anti-breakage. Since I like a good cast, I look for mega hold, strong hold, lasts all day, frizz control, control, intense hold, and products that say defines AND holds (not just defines). A jelly, geleè, or a cream gel is usually thinner with a softer hold, and a gel or soufflé is generally thicker with more hold. A soufflé will add lots of moisture though, so that’s not really my jam. Often you’ll see the words right on the label - butter, oil, cream, custard, mousse, foam, etc. I hope this helps get your mind jogging!
@@SinginginD thank you so much, this, right here, was what i needed ! 🙏🙏🙏 that's the very first step before buying and it's definitely going to help me targetting the product that could help taing care of my curls, thank you a thousand times❤
@hanzcurls what did you use in your hair for this video ??? I have fine hair . I'm a curly redhead that frizzes easy. I can't seem to find something that works good for me...
Thank you so much for this great information! At what point should I put the thickening spray in? It sounds like the thing I've been looking for. Thanks!❤
I loved this episode I have very curly blonde hair that’s going silver and white and I use CurlSmith Weightless Air Dry cream it works perfectly but if I add anything else it does look greasy.
Thank you so much for these very helpful videos! I’m glad found your channel. Trying different products to see what works and what combinations is very daunting! Would you recommend trying the same products/methods several times or trying something different every wash day? I wash 2 days a week. Thanks!
I have been trying to enhance my curls this summer, trying all kinds of products and routines. I just want you to know that this video was so informative that I subscribed to it and have never subscribed to any other person's videos.
I’ve been wearing my hair curly for a number of years and am still confused with all the products out there! Your video has helped clarify it a bit. I use the Verb line. I especially like their Foaming Gel which works well on my fine, low porosity hair. This gel was made in collaboration with anther curly hair RU-vidr, Manesbymell.
Why do I have a wet look when I apply mouse to my hair and how can I get rid of it instead of scrunching I will run my fingers though it and it will get rid of the crunch but can still look wet?
You may be applying too much if it has a wet look. Try applying less and applying to wetter hair. If you run your fingers through it once dry it will break up your curls, so I’d recommend gently scrunching if you don’t want that to happen. Or if you diffuse, scrunch your hair gently towards the end of diffusing as shown in my recent diffusing vid
@hanzcurls Lovely informative video thank you! Do you have any suggestions for us curly girls who are in betweens? Relatively fine hair that tends toward drying out? Thanks!
So glad! You could try a lightweight leave in like one in a pump bottle and mousse or gel! It depends what you want your finished look to be, for more definition and uniform curls, go for gel, for more volume, go for mousse.
Interesting, thanks! I like Noughty products too and there's a useful little bit of hold in that primer spray. 👍🏻 Have you tried the creme gel? What did you make of it?
I like the creme gel on its own! I shared on Instagram 😍 At first I wasn’t sure but I really like it on its own, I don’t find it too heavy like other creme gels and custards can be. But for more hold I like a gel on top.
There’s a mix of highstreet and higher end products in this video I feel! If you click the link in the description it will take you to my favs. I also share lots of different products on my channel x
@@hanzcurls Hi Hannah. I was just watching this again and just wanted to ask, you say that the Bounce Curl Hairspray is like a spray gel - would you use a gel and the hairspray together or would you just use one or the other?
