@@Asthbendriel you don't really notice them after a while but I have never done a 5hr one just 2hrs plus max. Ensure you get the right fitting for your arms and thighs and you won't know they are there as the brain will be more focus on safety. This is my opinion really and hoping it helps you too. Couldn't agree more, even when I see someone in a full face helmet on an easy trail I'm mostly just jealous of how cool their helmet looks lol. Looking down on someone for wearing protection is elitist jerk stuff

GForce makes real cool pads. Love that whole "non newtonian" substance idea they have. I use the X3's for stuff here in Florida since I'm not going through a whole lot of jagged rocks and nonsense. Saved my knees so many times, especially from thorn thickets and stuff. I've pulled out 1cm long thorns out of them a couple times lol

I’d like some opinions on other protection. I’ve been riding long enough to know that you can crash on what seems to be the mellowest patch of trail. What is overkill and what that might seem like excessive is a good idea. Manufacture makes no products that are lighter, more comfortable all the time. I understand that it’s all persona about personal preference but after many crashes, mostly unexpected we do continue to under protect ourselves. If you get off on your wounds sticking to the sheets at night, okay but I’d rather be sitting on the ground after a crash and laughing because I didn’t get hurt. Crashing is part of the fun of mountain biking but using up all of your Second Skin supply after a ride not so much. I still wonder why we do this without really taking safety into consideration, because we do. I’m 100% full face now because it’s comfortable and well ventilated. When was the last time you saw someone on a motocross bike with an open face helmet? Where is the line? I challenge GMBN to do a serious series on protection. I hav a pair of Fox knee shin pads that I wore ages ago. I practically could ha be worn them to play hockey. Now we have super comfort and protection. I think it’s time to promote this not only in knee guards but more comprehensive body and head protection. I haven’t crashed in two years. Maybe if I’m padded up a little more seriously I might push harder and actually enjoy the next crash. Honestly I didn’t not give a crap what other people or riders think. I’ll do my thing. Is it a macho, male thing to under protect? What message are we sending to new riders? I’m an artist. I had a shoulder separation ridge which put me out of commission for several weeks. I don’t produce, I don’t make a living. Two weeks after I was cleared to ride i had a great day on the trails. Feeling euphoric. It started to rain and I washed out on a zebra 50 metres from my studio. Dislocated the same shoulder. Another six weeks out of action. My wife made a deal with me after. I could ride but only with full upper body armour. Summer in Madrid is 40+ degrees every day. Within a week it was normal. Is there a legitimate excuse? I’d like to hear it. Love the channel. I still think you need a woman presenter

For me if I’m riding at my local trail I wear an open face helmet or a convertible And if I’m going somewhere I haven’t ridden before or is really techy I will wear a convertible or a full face And for downhill and harder trails i wear a bigger more padded full face

Totally agree with this, currently looking for protection and i was thinking that wearing a knee pad only is not enough. Shin guards are needed as i imagine i can easily land on my shins, not just knees.

@bradsanders6954 Год назад
The other angle is, Ive ridden dirtbikes for many,many years. It takes a half hour to get dressed for a single track ride, with so much protection to put on. Even with all that stuff on it really depends on how you land, and what kind of tree you bounce off. The protection helps for sure. It doesnt make crashes fun and body parts still get beat up.

One detail I've heard that you didn't mention is that if you frequently ride in rock gardens, or rocky terrain in general, a knee pad with a hard shell is recommended so that in the case of a crash the pad will slide, instead of gripping the rock (which can damage both you and the pad). Other than that, this was a great breakdown of the common kneepad categories and uses, thanks.

Big fan of the X2s, haven't tried the X3s. What upsets me about pads is that they are made for a very very narrow set of sizes. G-Form is one of the very few companies that makes pads in 2XL, that are comfortable. (Fit around 24" thigh and 16" Calf) But I'm super disappointed in their E-Line, they say they fit those dimensions and are clearly about 2" off from not bursting open when you pedal. And for arms, same my arms are stuffed like sausages in their E-line pads. So why do companies exclude people with larger legs and arms? Not all mtb riders are skinny stick people, we need protection too, this is what keeps me from progressing, I don't have the protection I need to feel safe and comfortable, and my legs and arms aren't gonna get smaller.

#Neil #GMBNTECH #GMBN #ASKGMBNTECH #BLAKE #DODDY What i wonder is the many production option and cos of that production: lets use brake for example: Shimano we have at least 10 brakes from shimano itself, Tourney, Alivio, Deore, SLX, DEORE XT, XTR, 4 piston DEORE, SLX, XTR, SAINT, ZEE, which means 10 different production lines - 1 for each brake. Why not remove 8 of them and have just 1 2 piston brake XTR quality and 1 XTR 4 piston Brake, this would remove 90% of cost production which could be moved into those 2 remaining brake types, automatically decreasing the production price since now there are 5 lines per 1 brake type. and this would make those brake prices to be lower significantly, which means the best braking quality for every single bike with Shimano breaks. This could be applied to every other brand there is outthere This also could go into other divisions like gear, derailleurs, cranksets etc.
