I have the Osprey Farpoint 55L. One hack I ALWAYS do to get the bag on the plane is to use the 40L main pack as your carry-on, and then detach the 15L daypack and use that as your personal item. I've never been stopped from taking it on this way, even on carriers like RyanAir and AirAsia!

I just came back from a 3 month Europe trip and the Osprey Farpoint 55 was an amazing backpack! It was big enough to carry everything I needed, yet it was small enough to use as carry-on! Highly recommend!

Such a great example of your channels reach & influence. You could easily have turned this into a sponsored video but I really felt that you came across as genuine and you have actual solid advice from your experiences and really want people to buy the right backpack for themselves for their travels. Thanks guys

I noticed whenever people talk about the reason for carry-on only they never mention the main reason I do carry on only. Lost luggage. I don't think I can think of anything worse than showing up at your destination just to find out that your bag is in who the hell knows.

I've lost a bag ONCE, and it was the one time I shoved all the things I NEVER check in in my suitcase... I'd caught a horrible cold and decided that I didn't want to bother with a carry-on for my return trip, shoved everything but my phone and my passport in my bag & checked it, aaaand of course the plane arrived at my home airport with exactly zero checked bags. I'd checked my coat, my glasses AND contacts (I only had the pair I'd been wearing plus ONE backup pair - and I wear dailies), my wallet, and even my prescription meds. It only took like two days for my bag to get back to me, but that's two days where I was almost-but-not-quite functionally blind. Some mistakes you really only make once 🤣🤣

Tom Bihn makes incredible bags, I have the Synapse 19 and it's the best all around travel and EDC bag ever. They also have the 25 liter and a new Hero's Journey I would definitely purchase for a intercontinental trip, their quality is unmatched and they're hand made in the US with a lifetime warranty.
@dimm0k
@dimm0k 7 лет назад
honestly Tom Bihn bags are pretty nice, I have the Synapse 25, but had I see this review for the Osprey Farpoint I may have gone in that direction. The Synapse is well built, but design wise I find it to be a bit lacking for long periods of use especially if you have a smaller frame like myself. the shoulder straps of the newer Synapse are a little further apart and without the sternum straps the bag gets uncomfortable quick.

I have the Patagonia MLC, I really like this bag. My wife and I recently spent a month in Italy and Austria and was a great travel bag. The bag has a lot pockets on the inside and central part of the bag was open. A great bag for dashing between train stations.

Hey guys! I was just looking for this video last week. I bought an Osprey Fairpoint 40L. It is already packed and ready to go. I test drove it and looove the back support and hip belt. I am so glad you included the Osprey in your reviews. Great video, as usual.

When I'm staying in hostels I make a little "night time bag". It contains make up wipes, my toothbrush, my eye mask and melatonin. I leave it under my pillow when I head out for the day/night and that way, if I get back to the hostel after hours and it's dark I can easily find my sleeping essentials! I also tuck my pjs under there too:)

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm going on a 6-months trip at the end of this year, and was looking for the Osprey Kestrel 58. Only problem with it is there is no daypack on it. Now I think I will buy the Farpoint 55. It's also cheaper here! Keep up the good work!

Very comprehensive! I went with the Kelty and it's been my travel vlog companion for the last 5 months. I love it! It seemed like a better choice to me over the Osprey because of the location of the laptop sleeve. I wanted it closer to my back. Thanks for all the solid videos bros!

I recently returned from an almost month long trip in Italy and I used the Osprey Porter 46. Great bag. Locking zippers, which you can hide under the compression wings. For a day pack I picked up the Eddie Bauer 20 liter Stoway. It has hard rings, so I used some carabiniers to attach it to my osprey leaving no outward zippers exposed.

Great video. I can’t agree however with your recommendations. Rolling luggage that converts into a backpack is the way to go! You will find that 85% of the time you never need to carry your entire bag on your back but you’ll use the detached day bag every day. I’ve traveled the world this way and it’s so much better then carrying loads of weight on your back! The Eagle Creek Switchback International or Osprey 40L are great options.

I love the Osprey brand. I currently use an Osprey Porter 46 for my travel bag and love it. I have a Osprey Day-lite day pack that attaches to the Porter but I'm not crazy about the way it attaches with loops and buckles, I find it difficult to attach the day pack. I like the stow-able straps on the Porter and I've never had a problem carrying it on a plane.

I used the same Red Osprey Farpoint 55L you guys reviewed for my 10 month trip around Southeast Asia and East Asia.. AND I'm still using it now for my 2 month trip in Australia and New Zealand. Seriously LOVE this backpack and all of its features.. its a very popular bag i see many other travelers use. I highly recommend it. In fact, i got 3 other friends to buy Farpoints for their Eurotrip. Also, all Osprey bags have a lifetime warranty... having piece of mind in knowing that your bag is highly reliable is worth the money! hope my feedback helps anyone else considering getting this bag.

My mom and I went to Europe in 2015 and she carried a 35 L Osprey Sirrus and I opted for a 65 L Osprey Aura so I could carry some of her things in my pack since I was stronger and able to handle a fully loaded pack. Highly recommend getting the organization cubes if you go this route! We made sure to swap colors or tie strings to the handles so we knew which one had what we were looking for, without unpacking our entire bag! We were primarily on the train so we didn't need to worry about checking our bag!

For longer-term travel like WWOOFing I love the North Face Base Camp duffles. They don't have as many pockets and storage options, but you can fit so much and still carry it on your back! I then use pack-it cubes from Eagle Creek to organize. With this system I can unpack and set up a space of my own instead of living out of my bag.

I ended up getting the Osprey 40 because the 55 may not be accepted as a carry on everywhere. I matched this with a small PacSafe sling which works great for me. The Osprey carries everything while moving around and the sling is great for exploring towns and carrying essentials.

I bought the Kelty Redwing 50 reserve for my eurotrip last winter for 5 weeks and it was AMAZING. Also I bought New Outlander packable backpack (33 l, for less than $20. Since the Kelty doesn't have a removable backpack) to use during the day for my sightseeing around the cities. I think it was the best way to go, because when I wasn't using it, I stored it on one of the side pockets of my main backpack. Totally recommend that combo, the Kelty + a packable backpack. The reserve edition of the Kelty redwing 50 does have lockable zippers for extra security.

this video is the one that made me a fan of vagabrothers . I bought the Osprey Farpoint for our first international trip, but because of Amazon's weird random deals, I bought two of the 70L, since it was cheaper than the 55L at the time. We purchased the S/M and even though it is 24inches in height and most carry-on limitations top out at 22inches, we had no trouble using it as a carry-on. Sometimes, even budget airlines like RyanAir checked our bags for free as a convenience to them, which the zip up cover on the back came in really handy. I'm 5'4" and my wife is 5'0" and we had no issues or complaints using the 70L because of the support straps that come with this pack! We are now using your videos to figure out our next trip destination!!!

My go to pack is the Kelty in 32L. It may be smaller but with a few packing cubes i was able to spend a few months in Europe in the dead of winter with room to spare. The top and side pockets are really quite large so you can fit things like a smaller Nalgene or sleeping pad if you so choose. External compression straps are nice too when you visit the nieces and nephew for Christmas and they send you off with extra presents =)

(Just a note - the 40 litre doesn't have a removable day bag so the laptop ends up being the furthest distance from your back. This isn't an issue for me with a light laptop but for anyone with heavier tech the 40 might not be for you as the weight isn't evenly distributed!) I have the Osprey Ariel 55 xsmall which is 49 liters - small enough as carryon, but can really pack this thing up. Used it for month long trip in Peru during their winter. Then I have Osprey Tempest 40 xsmall/small which is actually 38 liters. Did two month long Europe trip with that and had lots of room to spare. I am a petite female and have gone through fittings several times at REI. Unfortunately, Osprey is the only brand that carries backpacks that can cinch down to my size. So I am limited but they offer good packs that work just fine for me.

I am not trying to walk on vegabrother's toes. But, a really good camera backpack is the Peakdesign 30L. My partner is a professional photographer, and he also travels with me. So he tries to find bags that he can use specific for traveling and carrying photo gear. The bag has nice large side pockets which make it really easy to load your camera gear in and out. It has zipper locks to keep from anyone seeking into your bag. It looks sleek. Just google that, you will find it. There are a lot of features I am not speaking to, but I know he spent a lot of time and have used many different brands, and really loves this specific one. I know if I add a link it will think this is spam. Good luck!

i love my BACH OVERLAND.it is a top loader as well as front loader.it has great hip belts that absorb most of my backpack weight and thus relieves my shoulder from most of backpack total weight.

John luu .right, however the downside of porter46 is it doesnt has internal frame; while the downside of farpoint40 is it doesnt has internal lining.

I've been backpacking for the last year with the Osprey Farpoint 55 and I had no idea the day bag clipped onto the front! 😂 Thanks for the tip

I second going to a store to buy. Most quality outdoor stores (REI, Sports Basement, etc) will do a backpack fitting with you and will adjust all the straps to ensure it's sitting on you in the most comfortable way. Will make your trip that much more comfortable!
