one tiny thing that I love about aperture, is that (combined with your focal length and distance) also allows you to play with the amount of blur, you can see on your doggy pictures that the bookshelf gets more and more defined at each step: at f1.4 it's difficult to tell it's a bookshelf, whereas at f5 you can tell, while still having some blur :)

I didn’t find this video particularly useful. It would be great to get advice on what aperture to use in different situations beyond. Wide open is blurry and smaller apertures give a wide depth of field. That’s obvious already!

Lol f5.6 or tighter… most cheap or beginner lenses have lenses fully open or only one stop at 5.6…

ideally, you’d have a lens that allows you to shoot at a wider aperture, so you could increase the shutter speed to accommodate.
