Hey, could you make a video on perscription options?

I buy glasses from the hardware store. They have uv and puncture protection certifacates and cost around 10 bucks. Bike specific glasses cost 10 times that and usually scratch even easier and when they are scratched they are done for.
@borisov1024
@borisov1024 Год назад
Once I bought experience glasses and I forgot them on a bench in the park. Hardware store glasses are the best for protection and you don't need to worry if they get kicked out of your head from a branch.
@Velo1010

My go to brand is Tifosi. Under $100 with three lenses is hard to beat. As she mentioned they are very important to protect the eyes from branches and rocks that get kicked up by the tires.

You should do a separate video for those people who use prescription glasses. There's lot of us out there. At the moment I just use my regular glasses when biking. How much prescription "sports glasses" cost? Is wearing protective glasses over regular glasses an option?

In Canada for the full set of lenses mounted on your favorite big brand frame with quality polycarbonate non polarized it would cost 700$ at my local optician. Assuming you just have slight corrections like me 😅

I have a pair of Smith, Leadout glasses with their photoCromic lens, and they came with a Chromapop set as well and honesty they are the best glasses I have ever owned!!!!! Highly recommended for faces with broader noses and the PhotoCromic transition works great, but having the option to of the chromoPOP that feels like you litterly switch your vision to High Def is the bees knees. P.S thanks for all the knowledge and great content!!!!!! From A loyal Fan out in Edmonton, AB, Canada

While expensive, I am a huge fan of my Vaurnet 1521/polarized glasses. In the Midwest, these are suitable for all conditions of trail AND gravel riding. I like these so much, that I also use them frequently on my snowboard in the winter. These glasses stay put on my face while hitting some of the hardest core terrain on my MTB and some of the gnarliest out-west mogul snowboard runs. I have fought with glasses for years and these are the only pair that I do not have to fuss with while riding. …APB Dotty!

I’ve never gone wrong with Lidl or Aldi sport glasses. I have multiple pairs to suit different riding conditions. My optician recommended some sport glasses from Amazon which could take prescription lenses and they have been an absolute godsend. The idea of spending a truck load of money on a pair of sport glasses, only to leave them at a cafe or misplace them on a trail is just too much to bear. My latest find for good quality protective eyewear is Screwfix. How can you loose with £5.00?
@gedpitts8879
@gedpitts8879 Год назад
Been using Bolle safety glasses which although clear, suit what I do and can be as little as £8. Made to very high standards. Could never justify £400 for a pair of cycling glasses, as my new gravel bike didn't cost much more

I use desert protection glasses that got issue when serving in the military. Came with clear and dark interchangeable lenses, but my favorite feature is the hook at the end that wrap around the ears preventing the glasses from falling or interfering with the helmet.

The cheap solution can be just safety glasses from the hardware store. Another requirement lots of people like myself need are prescription lenses, so those definitely start pricier and limit the shapes based on your prescription strength

You better buy ballistic grade lenses with potential pebbles & rocks that may impact them. Polarized lenses are a huge benefit too.

The best by far from my experience in most conditions and even in low light to help define the terrain is the Oakley Prizm trail lenses and never fog up. Choose your own frames that best suit your face. If you shop around you can get them at a decent price too.

I have used the Amazon Amber safety glasses. A 12 pack costs about $30 so I don't have to worry about one of them breaking. At least, that is what I used to use until very recently. Now? I wear prescription lenses. I have found affordable-to me-glasses that come with an insert frame. I just needed to get prescription plastic lenses made and they sit behind the mirrorized sunglasses. Hopefully #GMBNTech will be able to cover eyeglass options.

I'm also wondering this. Right now I'm using an older pair of prescription sunglasses. It's not ideal, it doesn't block the wind that well, but it's better than nothing. A good mountain bike specific option would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, fellow glasses enjoyer here. I wear Leatt Velocity 4.5 goggles and they work great. They are OTG goggles so glasses fit nicely, there are even small cuts in the foam so the frames fit better. They are still goggles so they come with all the drawbacks, they don't fog up though. If you prefer glasses I'd look around for mtb prescription glasses or ones with special prescription inserts. I've heard Rudy Project glasses are great, didn't test them myself though. They are a lot more expensive so it depends on your budget.
@TheButlerNZ

You can get safety glasses designed to go over prescription glasses (so everyone has the opertunity to rip their arm off at a lathe) and they come in all colours (Clear, dark, polarised, amber, I've even seen red (had to look up that one.. Apparently good for fog & depth perception)... As per my main comment rant I sooooooooo suggest trying amber if you ride in/out of forest sections.

What about us who wear regular specs because we have no choice. There seems to be nothing out there for us. It's goggles that fit over the frames or just wear our prescription specs. In saying that I'd probably just wear regular safety glasses rather than MTB specific. Cost a few quid from a DIY shop. Also Aldi usually do some really nice cycling glasses for not much money.. Can we really justify the expensive prices when we know the are going to get knocked, scratched or lost in the trails?

For prescription eyewear people, seems probably the best option is get contact lenses fitted, and buy less expensive protective wrap-around glasses for riding. One option that comes to mind is the industrial eyewear makers, who offer impact-rated adjustable eyewear that doesn't distort your vision and give you headaches, but doesn't cost a fortune either. Otherwise, goggles can fit over prescription glasses, but there's no upside to this because fogging is going to be a problem in that micro-climate where the prescription lenses can't keep up with the changing temperature and humidity.
