I always thought the airline picked where you were located. This is good to know that you can at least have some say in location.

Love your videos! It appears that you are working for the airline where I had most recently achieved Platinum status. Is it crazy that I am now switching careers at 60 and pursuing a late career with your airline and another U.S. major based in the south east?

I applied 2 days later got an email did my assessment the next day I got a text for a phone interview. 20min later I got an email. Cheyenne Wyoming is freezing cold for a floridian, but I am 100% in. Great video. In USA you have so many opportunities and airlines to work for. I live in NZ and at the end of last year I have applied for Regional Cabin Crew position at AIR NZ but unfortunately unsuccessful. I need to wait 12 months to be able to re apply because they have 12 months stand down policy if unsuccessful.

@The Daily Departure Thank you for the great information! I don't live too far from CLT, and I have just had my virtual interview. Is CLT considered more of a junior hub or senior hub? (I'm just trying to guess how likely it would be for me to be based there fresh out of training if offered the position.)

I would, for sure, NOT want to commute in this day and age with the weather, and even without the weather, all the cancellations and delays. What happens when you can't get to your base?
@TheDailyDeparture

You basically have to give yourself enough options to get to base. You are only allowed so many times per year where you are covered by the commuter policy.

I just applied for a flight attendant job for American Airlines. I live in upstate New York and my local airport is Syracuse New York Hancock international airport. Jfk is a one hour flight from Syracuse New York so if I did international I would live in Syracuse and commute to JFK. Orlando Florida would be my second choice and Dallas my third choice.

Hi! How do you know which bases are Junior versus Senior? Also, how do you check the amount of flights to/from airports? - is this something that you just observe using Google Flights/any third party that lists out all of the options or, as a FA, do you have access to something better than Google Flights? Thanks!

I would say ask around to flight attendants you may know who work for the company like maybe try and reach out on instagram or ask your instructors! Check out the app called flight view (just make sure to turn off code shared in settings) you can search specific routes and days of the week

United and American have Chicago. United had Cleveland but I believe it’s senior and delta has Minneapolis and Detroit for closest… for regional many have browse same bases if they do contracted flying for a major and republic had Indianapolis at one point, but if they still have it that’s another option

You won’t be able to be based there right away because they don’t take new hires but you could eventually transfer. It’s could possibly take 1-3 years give or take if they don’t choose to grow it a lot

Would it be smart to consider west coast base for the time zone? When returning to base it’s always easier than later?
@TheDailyDeparture
@TheDailyDeparture 2 года назад
Not necessarily. It’s all personal preference because even in central and east coast trips we have early returns. Keep in mind if you are a west coast base you might still have a 4 am wake up during a layover on the east coast which is technically 1 am west coast!

Do you pay for your flights if your commuting? If not is it hard to get a flight if you do commute? And if you choice to relocate does AA pay for it?
@Micg51
@Micg51 Год назад
Pilot, but it’s the same for FAs, you don’t pay for any flights, and airlines will not pay to relocate unless you get forced out of a base due to it closing or downsizing and your seniority can no longer hold that base.

This is misleading. You DO NOT get to choose your base. You can list your preferences, but the company always gives you what works for them, NOT you. Based on THEIR needs NOT yours.
@TheDailyDeparture
@TheDailyDeparture 2 года назад
I’m sorry you feel that way. As I mentioned in the video and many others (as well as on my instagram) bases are always bid and then awarded based on seniority. This video is meant to be informative to help people figure out which bases might be a fit for them, once they know what’s available. As you said yourself “list your preferences” -> this video is intended to help people figure out which order to places their preferences. And if they don’t get their top choice, they can always request a transfer! Additionally, if they know they won’t get their top choice, this video can help them figure out which city will be the best to commute to. If you feel differently, feel free to make a video that explains it better to help new hires! 👍🏼
