Hi Mairead, thank you for the video. I have a Med 1 report for my medical expenses for 2022. The Med1 report is dated 28/02/2023. What is the appropriate date to use since the expenses are for 2022?

Hi, I have a bundle of medical receipts from 2022 & 2023. I only became employed in 2023. I was unemployed in 2022 and just used savings to pay for medical expenses. Can I claim 2022's medical receipts back now since I wasn't working at the time? Thanks! 😊😊

You need to have paid tax in order to claim tax back so unfortunately for 2022 you cannot claim.

Hi I’ve tried to claim medical expenses for my mama hearing aids but getting nowhere it’s very difficult to navigate it says pending but have no idea if I even claimed it correctly according to your videos which are helpful Any advice would be greatly appreciated I will call them today I never claimed anything from them working all my life 😅

You can only claim if you paid for them. You must complete your income tax return to get refund for prior years. If the expense was in 2024 Revenue will increase your tax credits. hi, I wasn't aware of this procedure before I filed mytax just last week, for the first time myself. Mistakenly, I entered the total medical expenses amount in the section "Amount already claimed", also, so far I haven't uploaded any receipt as well (I have all). I recommend uploading medical receipts. See my video on this. Then when you do the income tax return the total will automatically come through. Its a lot easier.

@@remotebookkeeper The problem is - when I try to amend the health expenses - the amount in the field "Health Expenses already claimed" is greyed out - means I cannot make it zero now. Even if i upload the receipts now, it will impact on the claimable amount.

Very easily explained thank you, Mairead, I do have a question. You see on your page it shows a claim now however on mine it does not give that option. There is a mandatory box to tick which says the following. Please confirm you have uploaded an image of the Med2 Form provided by your dental practitioner by ticking this box. I am so confused. Could u please let me know what it mean if u know? I believe that s why it doesn't show me the options button CLAIM

You should be able to claim your 20% back on medical expenses the year you started working in Ireland. You must have enough tax paid in order to claim. You will not know this until you complete your return.

Hi Mairead, thank you for a great video , clear and concise.When I upload the same dental receipt as you have,there is a yellow box bleow the upload area that says" please confirm you have uploaded an image of the \med2 form provided by your dental practitioner by ticking this box. Do I need to get a Med2 form signed and stamped for every single €60 receipt? Thats a lot of forms or can I get 1 for everything at the end of the year?

Yes, to qualify for relief, the medical practitioner must be registered under that country's laws to practice medicine there. Also, if that care was not available in Ireland, you can also claim relief on accommodation and travel costs.

Hi Mairead, I had braces in 2020 and my payments spanned 24 months total. Do you have a video that discusses which year I should be claiming the tax credits for? Hi Paul all you need to do is get the med2 for each year and upload to receipts tracker. Redo the income tax return for each corresponding year👍 you will your tax back in a few days🎉

Hi. Great video and thank you for doing so. I have a question for you. I uploaded my receipts for 2022 but at the end it did not give me the option 'continue with claim ' button. Only the other two options ( 'back to summary' or 'add another receipt')?? I am doing this off my new laptop. Brilliant video what do you put a spect scan down as? Also if you pay excess on your VHI is that consider a doctor visit I pay 125 excess every time I have a procedure done in hospital? Thanks so much!

Hi Mairead. Thanks for the video! Really good content! I just got confused with few things.. I`ve already done my income tax return but I forgot to include my medical expenses. Do I include mine exactly like you did in the video or through the "amend" option? Another question I also have my tuition fee from 2022 (paid in 2021) to claim. So can I include in my last tax return together in "amend" option or the same way you did in the video as well. Apologies for asking these questions, I don`t know which i should do now

Correct - click on amend but upload the medical receipts first. Include the tuition also. Complete steps exact same way for that year.

Hi Mairead, great video! Quick question, I noticed that they say there is a limit of 1,000 euro. Does it mean the most I will get back is 1,000euro or do they mean the expense must be no more then 1,000euro. In other words, if I have a qualifying dentist expense of 3,000euro, how much will I save? Would it be 20% (600euro)?

There shouldn't be a limit. The limit will be determined by the amount of tax you have paid. In your example, you should get the €600, provided you have enough tax paid to cover this🥳

Any medical expenses uploaded for 2022 will increase your tax credits for 2022. You will pay a little less tax in your next payroll. Alternatively, you can hang on to claim receipts for 2022 until next Jan (after the year is complete) and you will get a lump sum back in a refund. This is provided you do not owe tax. I hope that helps!

Hi Mairead, question. Can I claim for medical costs for my father, he's 70 and retired? I can't find any info on if he can because it's all linked to paye and people paying tax🤷🏻‍♂️ it's very badly done. Like he has a medical card but waiting 18 months isn't an option as he is sick so we're forking out big money for him to be seen privately. Also, can I claim for him for this current year? Or do I have to wait until January of next year?

You can claim for your dads medical expenses if you paid for them and you are a tax payer. You can claim for 2024 now if you like. Revenue will increase your tax credits. You can also wait until year end. For 2020 to 2023 you can complete your income tax returns for get tax refund. I have full tutorial linked in the description.

You can only enter a full year if you have the statement of all expenses. For example, the pharmacy can give you a statement and you can enter the year end date applicable. This statement is called a Med 1. Its a lot quicker than uploading receipts individually.

It's a pain you have to do all the medical expenses eg/ doctor visits separately instead of one. :)

You can upload a statement for the year from the pharmacy it's called a med1. Some GPs will give you this too. A lot quicker 🥳

All done thanks and I’ve uploaded all so far for 2023.. I’m unfortunate been sick so much over last few years ended up have neck surgery 11 weeks ago so my tax back from 19-22 paid for excess.. this year I’ve over 5000 in medical.. Can I ask do you upload your annual tax relief forms from you health insurance in the same way or is it better to upload doctors receipts one by one? I have 4 years worth of health insurance claims and laya have an annual tax relief form for the last 4 years available to download on the app listing all medical claims that year.... do I upload them in the way you show here or is there a different way? Unsure how to process them though as all dates for doctors visit are listed on the one form so don't have any one particular date to log it under if that makes sense? Is it easier to just upload receipts one by one or will the 1 annual tax relief form from health insurance cover the lot?

Also, any medical visits that I forgot to claim for that year or was not eligible to claim from my insurance as I reached my limit, can I just upload them separately and cliam the tax back? I didn't claim on my health insurance for some receipts and its too late to do so now. Can I still claim tax back if they are within the previous 4 years?

Download the statement available from Laya. Upload this for each year applicable on the receipts tracker. Use the year end date of 31 Dec XX. Remember you can only claim for what Laya did not refund.
