How To Clean a Blackstone Griddle

I get a lot of questions on how to clean my Blackstone griddle and the procedures I use. Here's my updated cleaning routine. Note sometimes I'll clean right after use and sometimes I'll wait till later on that night. Just depends. I have small kids, so sometimes I have to get food on the table and get to the table quickly. Either way, the process is the same, I clean with some water, at a low heat, paper towels, then another good wipe of a rag. The rag really is the key here.
I hope you enjoy!

I just purchased a Members Mark griddle the other day and had my first cookout over this past weekend. I definitely got my grub on and drink on. Having said that, I was tired afterwards and completely forgot to clean the griddle. Since this was my first griddle I looked up how to clean it and typed your name in since you talked me into getting one lol. I followed you step for step and it looks great. Never use anything else to clean anything that has writing , labels or decals on it if you want it to last. And for those who asked about the rear grease trap...I have a 36 with lid...simply close lid, reach over and unhook the trap. It's easy to reinstall it the same way..you can do it by feel without looking.

I worked at a restaurant that had two 4 foot flat tops and the only time they were shut down was to work on a burner or something. At the end of a rush you’d throw wet bar towels on top and any crusty area put a scoop of ice, work the bar towel back and forth and the residue came right up, Wiped it down with a clean wet towel, then scrub it with a chore-boy we kept in a can of lard till it’s greased, final wipe and let it smoke off. Burners always on. There was a stone kind of thing like a brick we used in the corners.

I clean my griddle religiously after cooking. Takes just a couple of minutes. I have the grill cleaned by the time I have let my meat rest before cutting or before every one gets to the table ready to eat. I use the same method you just showed in this video. May take just a little longer if I have to clean caramelized sugar from griddle. I love having a griddle ready to use for my next cook by just turning on the burners.

I have the original side emptied griddle, and despite the mess that can be involved I am happy with it. Would not want to have to take the griddle out between each cook to empty the trap. Griddle should never be filthy. When I cook, I clean as I go. Inside or outside - finish one thing, quick clean, move on to next step. Once things are cooking clean up fully and set the dinner table. Good planning gets good results. Piss poor planning .....

Doesn’t seem like a great idea to put any towels on the griddle while it’s on-even if it is just on low. The fibers of a paper towel in my food 👎🏼 And paper towel glue. Most seem to turn it off after scraping with water and it’s plenty warm to finish up.

Never had the issue with paper towels in food. If you wipe it with anything, there's a possibility of lint, etc. Hey, to each their own though. If you don't want to do that, just omit that part.
