The owner of an airless paint spray servicing company said he uses and recommends anti-freeze to fill the pump before long term storage. Apparently it provides both anti-corrosion and lubrication to keep the piston packing in good condition.

Thanks for making these great videos! What is the right way to store the rig in between uses - hose on or hose off? When I bought my first airless rig, I was taught to always leave the hose connected. I would run Pump Armor throught the pump and hose, but I never disconnected the hose. Seems like that was supposed to help keep the Pump Armor in contact with the piston and packings. Thanks

Great video. Have you ever used the Deck Over paint, which is supposed to be thicker than regular paint, in a paint sprayer. Would it be ok to thin the paint a little with paint thinner, or do you think it will not be necessary. Thanks

what size sprayer tip do you recommend for outdoor. I am applying Zinsser 123 primer on old wooden clapboard first. It also have to be easy on paint use. These days paint is expensive.

Hi so does the treated water stay in the line while it is in long term storage, to keep it in the line do you leave the gun attached as well and I guess the gun has the treated water in it as well ? thank cheers

Thanks Brah - I like the thinner idea for storage. I can't stand buying that blue stuff - hell I was thinking using a little strait antifreeze ? Can't hurt better then moisture in it?

If you were using an oil based paint would you use mineral spirits versus water to rinse the pump? Great videos :)

Ten gallons is probably a bit much, but it will take several gallons to clean a sprayer, probably 3 or 4. To be honest I've never measured that. One thing I do is save all old thinner in a "Dirty Thinner" bucket with a tight lid. The sediments settle to the bottom over time, and you can pour off the clean thinner on top to use when cleaning brushes (see that video). I'd use fresh thinner to clean the sprayer, though. I wouldn't want to risk any fine sediment getting into the machine.

Is it ok to add some sort of soap to your water when cleaning latex? Will it harm anything...it seems like that would work better...followed by water of course.

You can clean the filters also. One in the gun, one in the pump I think its important. I keeps tips in lacquer thinner in a metal paint can. Other than that good job on a basic clean.

Simply put, clean it after every job. You'll also need to clean it during a job if you want to change colors. However, it's not necessary to clean it every day while you are doing a job and sticking with the same color--see my video on Storing a Paint Sprayer Overnight.

When doing my first rinse on pump i turn pump off after water first comes out of prime tube, then empty hose of paint before running water through primer tube again. It does't dilute paint in hose that way

Do I need to continue to spray out all of the water so none is left in the hose?

If I am not mistaken, the prime valve on most airless spray pumps is not a high pressure valve and one should always remove all built up pressure at the gun before turning the valve from "spray" to "prime" as this will prolong the lifespan of the prime valve...
