If anyone is wondering how this works....it actually did! I did exactly what he said to do. Washed the black from the parts and cleaned the filter. Sprayed the inside all down with Lysol and let it sit overnight. Put it back together, turned it back on.... and absolutely ZERO smell! We were having a horrible sour milk type smell coming from our ACs. It is now COMPLETELY gone! Thanks Biker Mike!!

I am going to give this a try. I have a Kenmore brand combination wall air conditioner/heater that is built into a brick wall so I cannot take it out. When I run the air conditioner, it smells like mildew. I hope Lysol spray works. Thank you for this video.

I've never cleaned and air-conditioner but I found this video and went ahead and did it, but after doing it I looked online and found so much info saying that spraying lysol in the unit can cause it to catch fire so now I am scared to turn it back on 😮 It said even dried lysol is flammable.

My apartment has a built in unit. I can't even clean it out. It smells like mildew or mold. I legit started feeling sick. I bought another cleaner, but i really hope this is another option if that doesn't work

Tried taking unit O had apart and cleaned with liquid mildew remover and coil cleaner. Also, I cleaned out the drain pan. Still had a lingering smell but not as bad. Will try this. Don't want to have to throw a good running unit away. Thanks for the suggestion.

@bikermike Tried the Lysol much better. Going to let it soak overnight and spray again. The Styrofoam being used as ductwork is a problem I didn't expect. Appreciate the video.

@bikermike I just did all this and then I read all over the internet not to do that cause it's flammable and could corroid the coils ect and could start a fire .or an explosion with anything that gets hot in there or any sparks .now I'm afraid to turn it on .I saturated 2 x with lysol . after I read about the fire it can cause and the corroid .I sprayed everything down with water with a sprayer .water bottle sprayer .is any of this true what they're saying? Cause I'm scared now to start it .and the bottom of my drain pan is still holding some water after 2 days even tho we cleaned the inside and it's tilted backwards. Even drilled some holes in it
@richardtrowell8812

@mitzey02 I did this and it was the only thing that solved the problem with the smell that would not go away with other cleaning agents. The majority of aerosols are flammable due to the propellants used. They will evaporate on their own if allowed to dry over night. The unit I cleaned has been running for a week with no issues. Have not seen any signs of corrosion. The aluminum and copper the unit is made of are not likely to corrode

@@richardtrowell8812 thank u .I did this with my bedroom air conditioner I let it dry, saturated 2x but I got scared and rinsed it all down, BUT IT WAS DRY before I did that. ANYWAYS SO SHOULD WORK THE SAME, NOW THE Living ROOM IM DOING TODAY GOING TO SATURATE IT 2 X AND LET IT Completely dry for 24 hours, this time I won't rinse it down, like I did the bedrooms ,u do get a smell of Lysol coming out of it for about a day or 2 ,but by any chance after yours all dried did u rinse it all with a spray bottle, or did u just put the front back on when dried and started it up? sorry for the caps .didn't realize it was on and thank u your you time

Thank you so much for this! I have a unit that can't be easily removed so i do not have the option to remove all sorts of parts...in the back especially! Definitely going to give this a try and see if it gets out that Sour Milk smell! And if I may ask....where are you originally from, Biker Mike? I keep thinking that i detect a bit of an accent mixed in while you are speaking! Thanks again!

Also do u wipe the lysol off after saturating ? I think thats what u said in the vid .or do u let sit overnight and no wipe down .let it run the next day ? No spray it down with water or anything the next day ? Just leave the lysol on there ? Just making sure .thanks
@bikermike
@bikermike 2 месяца назад
There isn't any right or wrong way, just want the lysol to do its thing and kill off the mildew and mold. you can wipe out the areas that you can the next day or after few hours. Some ac units are worse for this problem for what ever reason.
@mitzey02

I'll give this a try. I've dealt with this issue quite a bit over the past few years; within a couple months of use, without fail, the smell just becomes unbearable. It's a very recognizable smell, a disgusting, sour smell; like a combination of stinky feet, cigarette butts and old cat piss-- it's mold & mildew. Disgusting. The only solution I've found is to take the whole unit outside, disassemble it, hose down and clean out the entire thing and spray it with bleach, dry it out and re-assemble it again. After that, it smells clean and fresh-- but man is that such an annoying and time-consuming thing to do, especially because I run 4 a/c units in my house. It really baffles me how many millions of these things they sell and there's so little information out there on how to keep this problem from happening, or why that haven't engineered a better way to do this.
@AxeMurderer1983
@AxeMurderer1983 2 месяца назад
Nice, I did this and let it sit overnight, and today the a/c smells so much better! I didn't have Lysol aerosol on hand, but I used a 'Lysol Power Bathroom Foamer' spray bottle and it worked to good effect. I soaked the evaporator and simply sprayed some into the vents and down towards the fan blades inside. This is such a great tip! It saved me hours of taking these things outside to hose them out.

That part of my ac doesn't come off. I can only slide the filter out from a crevice on the side. Ugh. Can't get to the part I need to spray

From Lysol website: "Lysol does not recommend using Lysol Disinfectant spray on brass, copper or aluminum or painted wood surfaces." Please do not use corrosive products when cleaning the AC evaporator.
