This video is a deep dive into the methods Pool Pros use to thoroughly and efficiently clean cartridge filters for swimming pools. This video is longer, but has lots of tips and tricks the Pros use to clean your cartridge filter.
the pvc lines on this system was my first reason why i watched the entire video, pride in the fittings , all angles are square , clean job thank you for sharing
Great video! I have the exact same Jandy filter. Not sure how old my filters are, they look fine but I'm getting algae despite 24x7 pumping and FC of 10 ppm, so I'm thinking the filters need to be replaced!
Low flow from dirty filters can cause algae to build for sure. You may also want to check your combined chlorine and phosphate levels if clean filters do not resolve this issue. Thanks for watching!
I had huge algae problem when I came back from vacation. Put 4 gallons of chlorine in the pool and let it sit for 24 hours, cleaned filters, brushed down walls and ran pump for 24 hours. Vacuum up dead algae. Then cleaned filters again. Algae totally gone.
I might be on the wrong here, but i have a electronic pressure washer, it has very low pressure compare to gas washer and the gun is spraying a 45 degrees water nozzle, it wont cut through the skin but is very strong still, used it in my filter for years. I do have an extra new filter just in case but I haven’t seem the need or damage in the old one yet just saying. I like the video and everything you used in here. And well edited
I’m not saying you definitely ARE damaging your filter by using high pressure, but the damage may not be visible. What improves the filtration of the cartridges are glass fibers woven into the fabric. High pressure can break or dislodge those fibers, reducing the filtration of the cartridge. You may not cause tears in the fabric, but high pressure cleaning may reduce the efficiency of the filter. Also, this degradation happens over time anyway. So damage is being done through use and normal cleaning, but possibly more quickly with high pressure. As a reminder, cartridges should be change every 3 years or so. Hope this helps! 👍🏼
Only if you can’t get a seal the first try or two. And if you use a PTFE based lube I recommend replacing the o-ring the next time you take the filter apart. The lube breaks down the rubber.
This service can vary in price with various factors, primarily number of cartridges. I do not include cost of filter cleaning in my monthly service cost, but I know of services that do.
Buy a trash can at home depot. But a drain with a screw end. Cut a hole the size of the drain and add the drain in the center of the trash can. Spray the cartridge in the trash can and drain everything in you sewage main drain. That’s what I did
This is definitely an option, and how most of the cleaning solutions tell you to do the job. Unfortunately this takes 12 to 24 hours, which pool pros just don’t have and most home owners don’t want to invest. This way is faster and does just as good of a job cleaning the filter. Thanks for watching!
Don’t bother cleaning filters it’s a fools errand… the hose can never remove the algae and grime stuck in the core of the pleats. Just replace the cartridges every year!
