Usually that's first order of business when getting something new.

They coat the inside of the barrel with real heavy-duty protective gunk so there is no chance of corrosion while the barrel/gun is in storage, I usually spend a good half hour cleaning the barrel of any new gun BEFORE I get the scope out to mount it. I had a new Air Arms a few years ago that looked like they'd poured a pint of molasses down the pipe and let it dry, took twenty patches before it was worth trying a pellet.
