How To Clean and Pack Away Your Advanced Elements Inflatable Kayak

One of the most common questions I get asked is about how to clean and pack away our Advanced Elements inflatable kayaks.
The truth is that it's pretty easy.
Advanced Elements have allowed more than enough space in the bag, so you don't need to be an amazing packer to get the kayak back in the bag. It's NOT like getting toothpaste back in the tube!
The streamlined design means it's a pretty simple fold up process as well.
Cleaning the floor and hull is easy because they can be wiped clean with an old towel.
The fabric components are easy to clean with a wash cloth, but you do need to allow some time for them to dry if you got them soaked.
If you have any questions about how to clean and pack away your Advanced Elements inflatable kayak, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Cheers, Emily

Thanks for this. Getting the kayak dry after use is a major issue for inflatables - noone wants a mouldy kayak, especially if they've paid a bit more for a decent one. But so far this is the ONLY video I've found that offers a solution, and there are only two videos I can find that even acknowledge the problem.

Thank you, Emily! This is just what we needed. Our Advanced Elements Sports kayak arrived a few days ago. We managed to assemble and inflate, then deflate, but packing it up to fit back into the bag was a big problem. But no more!

See, I folded it from both sides and probably made a bubble in the middle that stopped it from fitting back in the bag. Thanks for the video.

Fantastic pixelcultmedia4252. Super happy to have assisted you with this one. Dont forget to also deflate the 2 deck risers under the front deck too. Those ones catch people out all of the time when packing away. Lee @ Oz Inflatable Kayaks

Forewarning to people buying this, before you pack the kayak away for the winter, be sure to do a *full disassembly* of the kayak and dry everything with the sun and hand-towels. I had one go moldy on me over winter because of trapped moisture. You need to unscrew the plastic retaining rings around both of the primary valves, and take the inner inflatable tube out of the exterior shell of the kayak; you'll need to pull out the aluminum bow and stern to do this. Then you need to unzip the cloth protective sleeve and remove the PVC inflatable tube from inside. Get inside every nook and cranny with hand towels, and dry off every surface. There's lots of places that this kayak can trap and hide moisture, you need to expose and dry them all, or it can go moldy in storage.
@PeterPan-gi4py
@PeterPan-gi4py 4 года назад
Probably that is the reason that some people say it is pain in the ass that kind of kayaks with inner inflatable tubes. For me a simpler design like many other kayaks in the market, is better for fast dry out time in the beach and a pack away for winter.
@0hypnotoad0
@0hypnotoad0 4 года назад
@@PeterPan-gi4py I appreciate some of the design elements because of the sheer durability and UV protection. I think it's safe to say it's very durable - but high maintenance. I carry around a small bin with a few bailing sponges and scrap towels to dry it out before packing it away between summer weekend trips. Then, before storing it away for the fall/winter seasons I do a full tear-down and complete drying of all components.

@@0hypnotoad0 So if the nylon parts are not completly dry in-between uses its ok? It doesn't need to be bone dry between each use to prevent mold?

Thanks you have just sealed my opinion and will look for a fibreglass one instead .
@0hypnotoad0
@0hypnotoad0 Год назад
@@patfenis7644 I'd say the choice depends on the number of kayaks you need to cart around and the space you have to store them. The inflatables are worth the effort if you are short on storage and want to move a lot of kayaks at once. If you have lots of storage space and are only carrying 1-2 kayaks in a vehicle then fiberglass is more trouble-free

Hi Emily, nicely done. Made me realise I was using way too much water to clean my kayak. Personally I prefer to keep the kayak half inflated to clean it. I find it easier generally speaking to have a more solid surface to wash and especially useful to access the inside bow and stern areas.
@OzinflatablekayaksAu
@OzinflatablekayaksAu 3 года назад
Yes, partial inflation definitely makes it easier to access the bow and stern, I agree. Cheers, Emily.

I usually put the kayak in the bag with the fins on top. It leaves some free space under the zipper for the fins and I feel it might protect the fins when hauling the bag around especially with the heavier AE AF convertible.
@fauii8679
@fauii8679 2 года назад
That's what I thought too because my fin seems not quite straight when the kayak is inflated and I think that comes from the weight on it when packed in the bag.

These types of kayaks with fabric covering and removable floors (I have a Decathlon Itiwit like this) are an absolute nightmare to clean and dry. It can be wet for weeks if you fold it without completely drying it. People usually only care about how fast a boat is to inflate and setup, but completely overlook drying and storage. I'm so glad I have a rubber Gumotex kayak now which dries out in 2 mins when wiped down.

@@averagerider92 Yes, I believe that, but not at 12°c and 85% humidity in the trunk of your car or in your apartment :) If you have a place to dry your kayak unfolded you probably also have enough room to own a plastic kayak.

Thank you for making this video. I refer to rhis often before I go kayaking so I won't be stumped fitting the kayak back in the bag. It's a keeper. Someone suggested that I marking the folding creases with a Sharpie (marks on the bottom so unseen.) Thoughts about this?

We have never had a problem with our inflatable kayak when we have hosed it down inside and out, and allowed it to dry still inflated, in the sun. We usually make sure the undersides of the bladders are completely dry before folding and storing, by using towels or paper towels. We have had ours for about 11-12 years and absolutely love it, as either a single or a double.

I just got the 2 person AE convertible elite... Putting this thing back in the bag is akin to kayak origami... I found it to be not easy at all. I'll try and remove the floor and fold it separately... I with the bag was made oversized by about 3 inches in every direction.... It does handle well in water... Something else i didnt realize from the directions is that air chamber valve 1 in the stern is the same chamber as the large interior tubes (chamber 2) ... The directions say to start with 1 then move to 2... I have no idea AE advises this.
@madogblue
@madogblue 4 года назад
Yes I just learned the same thing. You just put some air in valve 1 to fluff up the kayak, very little pressure. They pump valve 2 up till firm, max of 2 psi. Its actually simple.

Thanks for this. I just got and AE1007-E and your videos are super helpful. When folding at the bow, do you fold at the end of the skid plate? If I do that, it does not seem to line up exactly. I am able to fold the stern in between the skeg and the skid plate, but then all the folds are not even. It still fits into the bag, but looks much wider than your demo.

Hi Brian, if you look at this part of the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-CzAT4Nd4eSg.html you can see that the skid plate is folded. It doesn't seem to do any damage to the kayak if you do this. Cheers, Emily.

Hi is it possible to take the red outer cover completely off to rinse and is it easy to get it back on afterwards?

Yes, it is possible to fully remove the red and gray outer cover, but you have to undo the spring valve and it's a bit of a pain to put it all back together, so it's not something I would be doing regularly. Cheers, Emily.
