For the first installment of my cleaning and repair series of sneakers, we're cleaning a very dirty and used pair of Vans Old Skool, for which I only paid $6.

In the video we show you how you can clean your vans step by step

- a microfiber towel
- a pair of disposable gloves
- a soft premium brush
- a regular shoe brush
- a hard brush
- an old toothbrush
- masking tape
- cotton pads
- Q tips
- shoe cement or glue
- a clamp
- a bowl with warm water
- a sneaker cleaning lotion

I leave my laces to soak in a mixture of bio washing powder and washing up liquid for a few hours, works great too.

I put these exact vans in the washing machine & faded them. Is there any way I can fix them ? I just got them & hate that I ruined them

Oh that doesn't sound great and shouldn't happen after the first wash ... But you can dye the upper material very well again. For the suede in the front and back you can use and apply Angelus dye. And for the remaining fabric parts on the upper material you can mix Angelus Black and Angelus 2Soft in a 50/50 ratio and apply it. Finally, heat it up with the heat gun and firm it up and your vans should look great again! ✌🏻

Just tried cleaning my black converse which is some sort of canvas. All the black is practically white now as if I scuffed them or took the color out of the material. Did I possible do it wrong? Or is this a normal process that I have to now correct?

I usually throw mine in the washing machine with my darks just make sure you take the laces out first

I just cleaned the top nose of my vans and it worked but the don’t feel as soft. Is there a trick to get that new shoe soft leather/nubbuck feel they once had or is this a shoes/vans thing I need to learn to let you of?

Hey✌🏻, thanks for your comment. There is a simple trick for that. Take a normal brush (not too stiff) and brush the dry material again. This should reactivate the suede and the material should get its nice suede feel back!

I let my vans go dry and the material got a little darker and it’s not as soft

Thanks for your comment. That might be because the suede got too wet... But you can easily get the material soft again, take a normal brush (not too soft and not too hard) and brush the material once dry. After that, the material should be nice and soft again!

Hey! I have used a cleaning lotion from Amazon. Exactly this one is only available in Germany.... But you can use almost any other sneaker cleaning lotion! For example Reshoevn8r or Crep Protect. If you don't want to buy cleaning lotion, in my experience gentle dish soap works pretty good too! ✌🏻👟

You did great on the first shoe, but you left the other one dirty! That's not how you clean shoes! You need to clean them both or it won't look good when you wear them!
