Thanks for a very informative video ! I just cleaned my VM40 Mikuni's this weekend from a '98 Ski-Doo 583 MXZ. Like yours, my baffle plates were rusty. I recovered these using steel wool and some scraping with a razor. Otherwise, one can purchase new baffle plates from Niche Cycle in FL who lists them on EBAY. A couple tips: check float bowl heights; mine were out-spec. Also, don't leave the fuel inlet needle in cleaning solvent for a long period; the rubber will soften and you will need to buy new needle and seats.

Great video but the part I needed at the end about syncing, the audio cut out!

Great video, audio was lost on setting idle and syncing. Any chance for a voice over?

Nice vid. My first visit. Think ill subscribe. These old machines were and are great sleds !! So easy to work on. Unlike these new etecs. Dammm. Hope that sled got a new belt and secondary set up. He would notice day and night dif with defelection even set up. Hes loosing 50% power right there. Cheers.

On the black hockey puck looking floats there is the one rubber cap that stops it and mine only has one and I notice that yours does too. My seld runs fine but floods when shut off and I figured since there is no stopper on the one side it sticks open Edit:I watched the rest and I guess it doesn’t matter that there one but thank you for the in depth video

Your vidieo was very clear n precise, nicest ive seen in awhile, but i know you done these just for demonstration purposes, but i believe you never attached the needle to swingarm of floats.so wont work at all unless you correct that mistake.unless i was mistaken, looked as if spring just layed under arms.otherwise spot on.snooky pa.

Great video very helpful thank you for sharing your knowledge. I followed and cleaned the carburetors put them back together. The sled started right up but when I let it come to an idle it would rev up all by itself than idle down than rev up again. I’m hoping you have an idea what I need to do. Thanks

What is that last jet looking screw you took out? The one on the air box side of the carb with the flat head screw driver head on it? That u said opens up a passage way. I have a 98 formula z 583 and the crank case was full of fuel and w9nt start obviously so I got it all out of case and cleaned carbs etc and fuel pump and I noticed both my carbs are missing that screw you took out last. Is that screw important? Will it make my sled not run or over fuel when sitting? Ik the floats being stuck could and or needle valve or even maybe the hand primer but I've spent 2 full days messing with this and still can't seem to figure it out. Greatly detailed video tho thanks in advance if you reply

That is the idle mixture screw. It is very important to have as it controls the amount of air/ fuel the engine gets at idle. If your crank case is filling with fuel I would replace the needle valves as well as check the pulse line from the engine to the fuel pump and make fire there is no fuel there. If there is fuel in that line you will need to disassemble the fuel pump and replace the diaphragms. Hope this helps!

@@therapawayhomestead5464 nope wrong acrew I mean inside the bore of the carb like if u look into the hole of the carb from the air box side that small brass screw head inside. It was the very last screw u pulled out when cleaning ur carbs

@@therapawayhomestead5464 and yes I did actually just get it to run I've had that line off and it had some fuel in it and I've spent 2 days pulling it over to get the rest of the fuel out of the case and out of the e exhaust etc. I found a sticky valve and cleaned it again and now finally got it to start but still running way rich and I've got the air screw turned out 2 turns on both carbs would be leaning it out right? Or is it trying them in to lean out?

Where do I start with the idle screws? Both have been removed and I have no idea where to even start

I have a 98 mxz 583 And the throttle cable broke, well I ordered a new one from automatic distributors and I installed it, the new cable is sitting properly in in the thumb control, it’s lowered all the way down on the slide adjustment but when I start it’s revving way too high and engaging the clutch. So I checked and my slides are like 3/8 inch up from fully closed, the only thing I can think is it’s the wrong size cable , however it said skidoo 583 right on the original packaging, I’m going to try adjusting that side idle screw tonight but I do not think it’s going to adjust that much to make a big difference but do u have any suggestions on lowering the slide?
