Hi Reg, great video. Lots of useful tips. Let's collectively ignore the sadness of Emmabird and David99. Hygiene is so neglected by many cyclists. 10 minute job when you are in the swing of things. Time well invested.

That’s right, it only seems long when you record it into an educational video. But in reality it’s hardly any time at all, especially when you multitask. I’m in the kitchen after my ride anyway to grab a drink or something to eat so I might as well run my glasses under a tap. And I’m going in the shower so I might as well wash my kit now and prevent bacteria and fungus growing on it. 🤷🏻‍♂️😁 Thank you for your supportive comment. Safe riding! 🙂👍🏻

@@reginaldscot165 ou really don't need dettol to remove anti-antiseptic from your cycling clothing. You can also use regular detergent, it works just as well and against bacteria and viruses. You really don't need dettol for that and it doesn't seem to me to be very good for your chamois pants. It's better to use natural vinegar. to use

Small caution, I did the shower and bib jersey wash in a bucket during shower. Floor quite slippery and while doing post ride stretch in shower with laundry soap slippery floor , slipped. Fell on bucket and broke my ribs. Now not everyone is going to be a twit like me. Just pay attention 😅

@@reginaldscot165 haha nice one. Stretching is dangerous. It was 1,5 years ago. Lesson was learned 😅. Was a miserable 2 weeks tho. And a month before I could get back on the bike

Hi Reginald. I don't like to critise but what a palaver, enough to put one off riding. I quite understand that in tropical parts the importance of hygene is so much more important than the rest of the world, but what's wrong with haveing enough kit to go several days and then let the washing machine take the strain? There is a laundry dettol now (over here at least) that is odourless or you can have a lavender smell! Better than pine. Talc does not contain asbestos. The problem with it is that the mineral (talc) occurs in the earth near asbestos deposits so special care is needed to keep them apart. I don't know about over there but in europe at least "baby powder" has to be tested and certified asbestos free. You don't use the "marigolds" so thats the natural skin oils being stripped out of your skin. You could use baby bottle steriliser for your bottles and valves. I used to use wine making steriliser but since home wine making has gone out of fashion (too much cheap plonk perhaps) its hard to get so its baby bottle steriliser now. I don't have a problem with my helmet because I'm not a racer in the bunch and don't particularly want to look like one so I don't have a helmet. In 50 years of riding I've never needed one. As a final, though not bike related, thought. I tried Listerine and it does make your mouth feel fresher but it is basically an acid product so I gave it up so it couldn't disolve my limestone teeth.

It’s not as hard as it looks, it’s basically just multitasking while I am doing other post ride jobs. I don’t like the idea of leaving kit for a week in a bag growing bacteria and fungus and then putting all that in the washing machine. 😁 With white kit I run the risk of staining. Yes I’m aware of the relationship between talc and asbestos. After testing asbestos was found in talc that was labeled asbestos free. Unfortunately it’s very hard do prevent contamination. So, why run the risk? It’s a bit like the old psychological text, if I offer you a chocolate from a box but tell you that 1 is poisoned, would you still eat one of my chocolates? You probably won’t pick the poison one but who would be crazy enough to take that risk? Similar to my opinion on helmets, you might not need one today, but can you say what will happen tomorrow? 🙂🤷🏻‍♂️

@@reginaldscot165 Definately not leave it damp in a bucket, yuch, hang it and let it air before putting a lot in the machine en-masse. As an aside, after seeing your video, I watched a CADE video with bike fit James. He says saddle sores are a sign of bad fit, possibly saddle too high. Worth a consideration for anyone suffering from them. Obviously lack of hygeine would make matters worse.

Yes, talcum does contain asbestos. Google Johnson & Johnson and talcum.

7:47 If really nasty or did not wash for a while, soaking it in soapy water letting the soap do it's thing will work even better. I don't wash it after every ride, but I wash it from time to time, but depends on how sweaty I get, But I it's summer It gets soaked, and gets stinky faster, and dirty, so if waiting too long it will be nasty. Don't even bother with foam cleaner like Muc OFF Foam Fresh, it just adds citrus odor. 9:25 I'm a mountain biker, so I have a full face helmet, so this includes more steps, like taking out cheek pads, but pretty much clean the helmet the same way. But use a soft sponge on the plastic and the straps. If submerge the pads and liner too. If I wash other stuff I wash it in the washing machine using a wool wash. If only washing the helmet liner and pads I was hi t by hand.

Thoughts on bib short lifespan for those riding 4-6 times a week, 150-250km per week let’s say. …? Of course it is dependent on the exact brand and model of bib short, but I’ve heard wildly different opinions from 4 weeks to 10 years 😂
@reginaldscot165
@reginaldscot165 9 месяцев назад
Yes it is very brand specific! And depending on intensity and your saddle design. And on the type of pad, I have noticed that the newer generation of pads just don’t last as long. They are more comfortable, but with my old syahmi pads of the 90s they seemed to last forever! When I was doing 300km per week I did ruin a cheap set of bibs in about 6 months. That’s the shortest bib life I’ve had. But they were cheap. Normally they last me years, at least 2-3 years sometimes more.

What's the price of cycle gear like in SEA? And are the bike shops decent?
@reginaldscot165
@reginaldscot165 7 месяцев назад
Similar prices to the UK to be honest, you can get cheaper Chinese stuff but all the big brands have a normal RRP. The bike shop’s are different wherever you go. You will find fancy shops that sell all the latest stuff and shops that are just a guy sitting on cardboard covered in oil fixing bikes. But to be honest the guy on the cardboard probably knows more about bikes than a lot of the fancy shops. 😁

14:10 I don't get why you would do this, apart from emergency solution when power is down, or machine is broken, why not use the washing machine? As long it's not covered in and stones I just put it into the machine once I have enough dirty clothes. I've never seen these products. But I just use normal powered, but not if washing wool then I only use wool wash. But some mud stains( at least I think that's what it is) never come off no matter how powerful the cleaner is. No idea what in it causes it to make permanent brown stains. So that's one of the reasons I prefer to not use white clothing.
@reginaldscot165
@reginaldscot165 8 месяцев назад
For many reasons: 1) I’m in the shower already so why not wash my kit at the same time. 2) I’m not going to run the washing machine for 1 kit and I’m not going to leave smelly kit in a bag for a week until I have enough to run the machine as that would smell bad and be very unhygienic in this climate. 3) I get my kit washed right away so I can use it again sooner. 4) washing machines snag clothes and make hols in stuff, especially in thin material.

@@Baile_an_LochaThen the next logical questions are: 1) why did you click on the video? (If your time is so precious to you.) Clearly the video isn’t for you and why are you so angry about that. 😂 2) Why are you complaining about a video you didn’t watch? 3) If you don’t know the information in the video how can you assess that your current system is “successful.” Perhaps you might have learned something that would have improved your life? 🤷🏻‍♂️ If I see a video that is too long then I A) use the time stamps. B) I like longer videos. C) I move on to a different video. Hope this helps. 🙂👍🏻

@@reginaldscot165I was giving you feedback. As somebody with a business, I’d have thought that you’d welcome feedback from customers (when it comes to the economics of RU-vid, subscribers are akin to customers) to tell you that your latest ‘product’ isn’t doing it for them. If you want to only ever receive positive feedback, no problem, though to me that is a strange approach to business…and life come to think of it.

Definitely the right way to do it. I do it the wrong way. I just throw my kit in the shower with me. I use shower gel on the chamoix and all over the kit. I do a dance on my kit and also squeeze it with my hands. I wring it out with my hands then when I finish shower, I roll my kit up in the towel and do a dance on it. Then hang it to dry. I do like the dettol tip though. As for glasses and bottle, I do the same. Though I like to use sterilising fluid to soak my bottles every now and again.

That seems all good to me. 👍🏻 It’s definitely 100% better than some people. 😉 What sort of dance gets the best results? Is it a tango or more of a disco style? 🕺 😁
