How to Clean Dirty Caked on Glass Top Stove and Make it Look New Again

How I clean my stove using glass stove top cleaner and polisher and razor blade.. I generally always use the brand in video. I haven't tried any other products except baking soda so I don't really know if the other brands work as well or not. This is a great way of getting off the baked on/ caked on mess from spills and make it look almost new again.

Bought a glass top stove, thinking "Neat, I won't have to clean those burner pans anymore." Two weeks in...THIS! Oh brother! And perusing youtube, I can see it is pretty much a universal problem. This video is 5 years old. The company that makes that cleaner now sells it in a kit that includes a razor blade. Crystal here was ahead of her time!

Discovered the razor blade thing last night via google search. And ironically I use the same cleaner as you do. Works like a charm. At first I was worried, since my stove is brand new, that the hard residue from pots and/or boilover would be permanent .. but the razor ( held at the correct angle) works perfectly.. Mr Clean Magic Erase also helps on the waxy blemishes that are hard to remove.

Great video! Making candy was a disaster for my stovetop, as the sugar burned on terribly. I suppose I’m a visual learner because I heard on a video from either Kathryn from Do Do It On a Dime or Becky from A Place to nest suggest getting a razor blade in the hardware section of Dollar Tree for really tough places on a stovetop. I just could not fathom the idea, but your video shows me how. Thank you so much, and I’m glad to join your channel 💕

Thank you for the tip regarding using a razor blade. More easily use a window scraper that holds a razor blade. These are used for scraping paint off of window panes. I used that without the cleaner that you have and it scraped right off. BTW we use the same Weiman's cleaner on our stove top. Best!

Good video and like the sponge idea. Alot safer than guessing if a nylon pad will do the trick. But I would like to add this comment....My cook top is 9 years old and still looks great. Keep the razor at a 30 degree angle and use a handle. the manufacturer of my stove recommends this. Avoid pressing down very hard and gently work the pits loose. I do one burner at a time. You should clean hardened spots immediately after your cook top cools to avoid permanent pitting. I am not a fan of ceramic cleaners but they are the only thing available. Follow your manufactures guidelines as well. Good job.

I felt this way until we bought a new house that had an electric stove in it. We bought all new appliances, including a brand new, slide in glass top convection range. I thought I would hate cooking on it, but I actually find it much easier to keep clean than our gas stove ever was. No heavy grates to lift and scrub, no smell, no heating up the house, and no combustion residue all over everything anymore is a huge plus for me. It also looks sleeker and more modern to me. I would never go back to gas again.

Damn I wish I had seen this first before I attempted to use a textured scouring sponge. I’m the first to occupy my apartments glass top stove and I used the cleaner with no problem until steamed rice boiled over. Instead of wiping the stove, I let the rice continue to cook and then ended up with a portion so baked on; that today is day number 3 at trying to remove the baked on spill! I used a scouring pad and it scratched the glass and the razor did the trick and didn’t scratch the surface...should have RU-vidd this video before I used that damn sponge. Thanks for the awesome tip

You don't use razor blades or metal scouring pads that can damage the surface. Just use a normal green scrub pad. It's a little more work but it's better then damaging the top. I have had mine for 5 years now and it still looks like it's brand new. I normally use just plain Ajax dish soap and water. And let it soak for a few mins Then scrub. If you make foods that are greasy Ajax soap is the best option to remove the grease.

Have you found anything to help remove scratches: even though mine are very slight, they just don’t want to clean. I’m guessing they are an actual cut in the surface. Otherwise mine is over 10 yrs. Old and still looks almost new. Secret is to clean frequently and not let things build up. I find that after I make tea, if I take the used tea bags : I use several; and let it make a tea solution it makes a good cleaner. Hardest thing for me is getting it where grease doesn’t smudge, even using the cleaners for glass top stoves. These stoves cook well, but cleaning is simply never totally satisfactory.
