Although a simple task, cleaning an oil pan is not as intuitive as you might think. In todays video I share a quick tip on how to effectively clean up your oil messes.
I use newspaper to clean my oil pan then I line it with a couple clean sheets of newspaper. The next time I change my oil, I remove the newspaper and the pan is perfectly clean and dry. Love your idea too, but I don’t always have sawdust around.
I like your pan with the cap on the spout. I have an almost identical pan but the spout is just open ended, so you get drip-drip-drip. I jam a rag in it and store it on a rubber mat, but next time I need a new pan i'll be scoping for yours.
I to think that I've been almost militant about throwing out my all my sawdust. Now I'll have to go find some wood to saw and then bag up the dust for future use.
In the US you’re not allowed to dispose of oil in the trash, but you can dispose of oil soaked rags and media, so that would be a yes, if you live in the US.
Great tip using saw dust BUT usually you shouldn't throw oil in the garbage/landfill! Usually there's a special facility to treat it. Otherwise, it'll leak, and end up in our lakes, rivers and oceans.
Wondering the same thing. I used to just throw it away, but after learning how bad that is, I’ve started collecting all my kitty litter and used oil rags to drop off at our monthly hazardous waste collection event. I use 5 gallon buckets to store it until I can drop it off
I've heard people say you can use cat litter too if you have pets, and the clumping litter is the best. Is that true, or have you heard anything like this?
Sawdust is not a commodity I have on hand so I use old newspapers. To wipe the residual film, I use TSP liquid as a degreaser. Unfortunately, were I live, auto parts places do not accept used oil. They sell it but don't take it back. Ridiculous. Luckily, I know a guy at an oil change place and they take it.
i cant believe i watched this. waste oil, carcinogen, and you're slopping around sawdust. how about just a convenient place for the oil plan to drip on it's own into a container? ,

Just changed the oil on my motorcycle. Realized the drain plug gasket leaks and needs replacing. Should I throw away the new oil and spend $30 on new oil? Or do I clean the oil pan and reuse the brand new oil? It's not that hard thinking of why anyone would need a clean pan
@@twohandsandaradio Yeah you're right, I wasn't planning on rinsing the oil pan and wiping it clean, I'll just dump the oil on a pan full of sawdust. Thanks for the help.
