How to Clean Oven Racks Easily

Here is my favorite way to clean the oven racks without difficulty or effort. Usually, the oven cleaner dries out or flows down before it dissolves caked grease and grime on your oven racks. The cling wrap allows the oven cleaner to work as long as necessary and also provides close contact between the cleaner and racks surface.
✔ In the same way, you can clean drip pans and a grill shelf.
✔ Unlike soaking racks with detergent in a bathtub, you don't have to clean the bath and wash a towel later ;)
✔ Please pay attention that the oven self-cleaning feature is not designed to clean oven racks. It will break down the chrome surface of racks and permanently damage them.

@Ray McLaughlan Because of the chrome finish, I don't risk washing the racks in the dishwasher. But I wash the trays in the dishwasher. It's not perfect, but often it's enough. I re-watch this video because tomorrow I am going to clean my oven using a self cleaning oven and oven cleaner. My oven racks are the kind that slide in so I don't have oven racks on the side. But what I do to help a little bit is I put aluminum foil on the bottom and that saves sometime and cleaning. But what I would like to know is how do people clean the top of the oven? I mean like the inside top of the oven because everything always gets splattered up there and you can't remove the coil. I'm hoping that the self cleaning part of this oven will do its job it's a used oven so I don't know how this will happen but I'm going to try these ideas

Once in the bag, spray the cleaner into the bag, then Seal and leave in a warm place, in the outside sunshine for as long as possible, or 1 hour minimum . Then remove from bag and clean off outside etc. No muck indoors etc . Tie up empty bin bag and discard in trash etc . Simple ! 🇬🇧✔️

What pan is big enough to place oven racks into? Even my sink is not big enough to lay the racks flat in it.

While this might work on oven racks with minor grime and grease.. let's see one that has been baked and caked on for a year or more and see how this method works..I clean apartments when tenants move out and they are 10 times worse than what is on this ad..
@KoalaSewing

I think you could try to increase cleaning time and soak them under film overnight 🤝

Be sure not to leave the racks in when using self-cleaning ovens, the high heats hurts the chrome finish. Also, will oven cleaner hurt chrome plated steel racks, but not stainless steel?
@KoalaSewing
@KoalaSewing 3 года назад
There is nothing eternal... but yes, self-cleaning will damage racks and trays immediately. Thanks for watching and comment!

I have heard that even though a manufacturer says that you can use oven cleaner on your oven racks that there are horror stories to the contrary. I am going to try... Putting a bowl of water in the oven on very high heat and steam. Let cool mostly. Then soak in Dawn dishwashing liquid. 🤔........

Soda crystals work well as well left to soak in hot water

Soda is a classic 🙂. But I have never been able to get the perfect result with it. In any case, it's good that there is more than one way to solve our kitchen troubles. Thanks for watching and commenting 🤝

Or put them in a trash bag?
@KoalaSewing

Great idea 👍 I think a trash bag would most definitely work too. Besides, it's always at hand. Remove air from the bag as much as possible for a better fit.

How to clean the roof and sides?
@KoalaSewing
@KoalaSewing 3 года назад
I don't think I could give good advice on how to clean inside an oven. The self-cleaning program of my oven saves me from this work. Phillip, let me invite you to watch the video on my channel. There I tried to show how self-cleaning works.

Baking soda and vinegar didn’t work for me. Racks are very dirty, greasy and never cleaned for a year
@KoalaSewing

This way should help. Just soak them overnight, and it will work 🤞

Everything is relative 😉 My racks took about 3 hours of soaking. Soaking of too dirty ones will take all night. You'll get great results, anyway.

Why have we got all this ironmongery in our ovens at all? The shelves fitted fine as they were.

I put them in a plastic garbage bag..that way you don’t really need a tray for them to sit in, just set on a large towel.
@KoalaSewing

A garbage bag is a great idea and is always at hand too 👍. I will definitely try it during one of the next cleanings. Thank you for the tip!🙂

If only the oven shelf sockets could be replaced easily, with Neff you have to dismantle the oven
@KoalaSewing
@KoalaSewing 3 года назад
Except for the first time, my racks are easily pulled out of the sockets. And I don't really have a choice because the manual recommends removing them before starting each oven self-cleaning.

It appears that about 90% of that spray cleaner was wasted - not needed.

Thanks for watching! It seems to me the cleaning spray there is not too much, not too little. It's just enough 😉.
