I wish I knew that I had to actually take them out to wash them. I threw mine out because they looked so gross! First time pool owners and learning as we go... 😂 Thanks for teaching me!

User manual says: Don't wash in washing machine! 😂 But truly, it's impossible to wash them manually. Maybe it depends on water in the region and chemicals used in the pool. Also it's recommended to check and manually wash them every 4 weeks 😅 oooops. Ok. I have only backwashed them twice per season, so put them into the washing machine together with a bit of washing gel. Ready to throw them 😂

Yes they want us to buy new more often and not deal with the hand washing lol. Just make sure you use cold water, and a little bit of vinegar if you want 👍🏽

So I washed them in a gentle mode of washing machine and left them to dry. It seems they are become not so fluffy thus they will not filter small dust as good as the new one. However, it is worth testing.

What size is your pool & pump? We bought the 18’ x 48” pool and the pump/filter doesn’t move the water much at all. Your pump/filter looks much larger than what we have.

The pool size is 12’x24’ and i have a Hydrotools 19" Sand Filter System 1.5HP Pump. I use filter balls instead of sand.

Get the Intex or bestway same filter. 2800. I have the Intex with the filter balls and above ground skimmer.

Good video do you recommend getting filter balls or sand which is better
@backontheroaddiy

Both are good it is just preference. Filter balls are light, filter very good, and the pump doesn’t get a lot of stress because the balls are lighter than the sand, but you have to clean them every pool season or when you feel the return jet is very weak. Sand on the other hand has been used for many years and it does a good job but in comparison it is heavier, more stress on the pump, water creates channels in the sand so lot of times it doesn’t filter very well(not a big deal because when you backwash the sand gets moved around). If you don’t mind the hustle of washing the filter balls every season i would get them it gives the pump a longer life. If you don’t want the extra work of doing that just replace it every 6 years get the sand. Hope it was helpful. I know it was a long answer lol

I got the filter balls too. I just do the handwashing, I don't wash them in the machine. But yes way better than just sand.

@@backontheroaddiy not bad imo. I want to try these balls.. You also have to backwash sand frequently and then also replace it every few seasons depends how dirty you are lol

You know, I just took mine to the laundromat and, after $4.50 worth of quarters, a bit of detergent from home, and maybe 20 minutes, they were all clean as a whistle.

For some reason, the owner's manual for my balls (Flowclear Polysphere) forbids this. But I wash them in my washing machine and nothing bad happens.

I tried filter balls, and they worked great the first year, then they were HELL!! Went back to sand!!

I know it happened to me too, then figured out i had to wash them every year after the season and the work great it is just that extra hustle.

@@backontheroaddiy You can’t use any clarifier with the balls because it coats the fibers, and they stop filtering. I started last year, washed them in washer twice, dried them, and stored for this year. Unfortunately my cover busted, and all that winter debris was deposited in the pool, not the usual opening routine. However, this proved just how useless the balls really are because I removed and washed them twice while trying to clear the water, and spent ~~$400 on chlorine, shock, floc, algicide, and clarifier….it was still not clear, I could not clearly see the bottom of the shallow part. I removed the filter balls again, put them in the trash, noticed that the bottom of the filter had “mud” sludge in the bottom, and wet vacuumed that out. The balls were slimy as hell, so they went into the garbage that time, and we filler the filter with sand. The very next day the water was clear, and I could see to vacuum to waste the crap that had fallen in from the split cover. One day, and the sand cleared it!!! I always add 2 cups of pool grade DE through the skimmer after every backwashing, it improves the sand filtration a lot. I also use skimmer socks on my skimmer baskets, and they are amazing. I never have to clean the pump pot!! I have never had to spend that much money on opening our pool EVER. I fell for the “gimmick,” and paid the price!

@GodGunsGutsandNRA That is why i put this video so people can decide on wether they should or not get them. Thank you for sharing about the clarifier.

@@GodGunsGutsandNRASounds like you just needed to wash out the filter after cleaning the balls.

@@xq8152 I removed all the balls, put them in a laundry bag, and washed them several times in my washer. I also removed the main pipe and the laterals from the filter, cleaned them throughly, cleaned, and rinsed the inside of the filter. Everything was extremely clean, that is one of my OCD quirks.

Why r u washing them period lol they are 50 bucks per bag just by new every year bam solved. I’ve used the name brand filter balls blu for 4 seasons and I’ve never had a problem I’m always crystal clear
@backontheroaddiy
@backontheroaddiy 7 месяцев назад
That is a very effective way to do it lol. But they are reusable and last about 5 years. My filter uses 3 to 4 bags and man i like keeping those $200 in my pocket for those few minutes of work lol
