@Francyesko So, did you use our kit to clean the game and you still are not able to get your game to work? If so, you may need to inspect your N64 system connector, and use a cleaning tool to see if that itself is dirty.
@Nintendorepairshop
@Nintendorepairshop 13 лет назад
@shadowing00 for the record we do not recommend using brasso. Our repair kit should do the job assuming you can get any games working in your system at all. If not, you system connector may already be toast. In which case a replacement system would be needed.
@Nintendorepairshop

@FrozenCandy2 Unfortunately, Its impossible to remove scratches. We have a cleaning kit that removes all the dirt and grime. You can try that if you want.

@KevinBlock123 A little plastic supports on the inside of the case help hold the game motherboard in place. Sometimes these break, which is what is causing the rattling. You can solve this by purchasing a 3.8 mm bit and opening it up and removing the pieces. If you want to purchase one you can visit our website.

so i recently bought a copy of mario 64 on n64. and i noticed that the background gets blurry a lot! whenever i move around a lot in the game or make sudden turns, a faint line seems to split the top from the bottom screen in a way. it is a jarring experience that i never noticed while watching people play on original hardware in youtube vids. could this be related to a dirty cartridge? the game turns on right away every time and the save function works so i am not sure what could be causing it. i have a bunch of other n64 games that i use on my n64 and never noticed this problem with any of them. i have the n64 plugged into a flat screen. and i changed my screen size to 4:3 but it still shows no improvement. the game is still playable but me being a perfectionist, it is very distracting when that blurring happens. can somebody please help???

How do you fix a cartridge that keeps resetting a game during gameplay?
@Nintendorepairshop
@Nintendorepairshop 14 лет назад
@tigerboyX Yep. Sadly. I will always be a proponent of cartridges from a quality and durability standpoint, but they are SOOO much more expensive than CDs. I think that is why you see the switch. In the end, it really doesn't do a video game company any good that it lasts you 25 years. It might even be better if you have to buy a replacement in 3 years. Regardless, yes the N64, SNES and NES games can still work today with the proper treatment, because they are very high quality items.

I realize that this video is old but hopefully I get a response to my question. I have about 20 games for my N64 which I stored on a shelf for many years now. I went to try to play them and noticed non of them were working. I took apart so far 10 games and cleaned them with alcohol and a microfiber cloth but only have gotten 3 to work. All the connectors on the games seem to have lost their "shiny-ness". I realize that this is probably from blowing into them as a child. Is there anyway to get into contact to you to perhaps send you a picture to see of the games are beyond repair? Any response would be awesome, thanks

I did this to an old copy of resident evil 2, still does not work. Could it be the battery?
@Nintendorepairshop
@Nintendorepairshop 9 лет назад
The battery only affects saving your game, not playing it. You might have ruined your game with the sandpaper. We only use sandpaper on game contacts when there are spots of actual corrosion or rust on them, that the paste can't remove. Sandpaper is VERY harsh, and will easily remove the gold coating, which means poorer conductivity, and faster oxidizing. You only want to remove the blackish oxidation buildup, not the gold coating. PLEASE don't use sandpaper except as I described above, and then only use something like 600 grit emery paper, and only on the actual spot of rust. Here is a link to our game cleaning kit. www.retro-video-game-repair.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?keyword=game+cleaning+kit And, we also sell the game save batteries, if your game no longer saves. But, many N64 games do not use the battery, they use a flash memory chip or controller pak (memory card), so open up your game first to make sure it's one with a battery inside.

I'd suggest using just plain old rubbing alcohol (the carts say not to use it but the collecting and retro gaming community came to the conclusion a long time ago that it was only to sell cleaning kits) just put a little bit on a q-tip and lightly scrub the connector pins works on any cartridges and is extremely cheap.
@Nintendorepairshop
@Nintendorepairshop 9 лет назад
Alcohol and swabs worked ok to freshen games when they were just a few years old. It honestly doesn't cut 20+ years of oxidation buildup. Plus, you are working blind. You can't see where the bad spots of oxidation or corrosion are. I've seen a lot of games that people cleaned with swabs, and you can see the buildup of stuff left behind by the swab at the upper edge of the game contacts and seeping inside onto the rest of the circuit board. Our kit really does work well -- safely, easily, efficiently, and inexpensively. Your games are valuable, why risk your game and your time on a method that isn't safe for your games, or very effective? Here's a link to order the kit. www.retro-video-game-repair.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?keyword=game+cleaning+kit

dopefresh nation We can get about 99% of old N64 games working again with our game cleaning kit. Sometimes you can see water damage/corrosion on the actual circuit board, and cleaning the game contacts won't fix that. You can sometimes save one of those games by cleaning the rest of the PCB with an aerosol spray can of electronic contact cleaner and the wipes from our kit, and dab at the spots of corrosion on the PCB. Sometimes water damage does destroy a game beyond saving. And then, there are very rare cases where a game PCB looks perfect, and the contacts are clean, and it still won't come up. But those are very rare. www.retro-video-game-repair.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?keyword=game+cleaning+kit One other possibility is that the connector pins in the N64 console are dirty. That can keep some games from coming up. You can buy the 4.5mm bit from us (link below), open up your console, and try cleaning your console connector with the electronic contact cleaner I mentioned above. Nintendo also made a control deck cleaner that looked like a tall dark gray game cart, with stiff felt in place of the PCB. You insert and remove it a couple dozen times and it gently rubs the connector pins and helps remove oxidation buildup on them. When we have them in stock they fly off the shelf, but you can sometimes find one on eBay. Drahsid Please, don't ever lick your games! The reason it works in the short term is that water conducts electricity. But in the long run, you are ruining your game! Would you pour water in it? That's what you are doing! Water on the game contacts can cause corrosion, which can destroy the game if bad enough. And when the water in your saliva evaporates, it leaves behind dried saliva solids which prevent a good electrical connection with the connector in the N64 console. If you feel you need to blow on or lick your game to get it to work, please try our game cleaning kit, it will really make a difference. www.retro-video-game-repair.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?keyword=game+cleaning+kit
