I am practicing this procedure for two years by now and for two different printers.
Please wear personal protection equipment of your choice and preferences depending on your handling experience, and, which is more important, do your post-cleaning in a well ventilated room (I do the operations in the ventilated cabinet shown in the vid.). Do not touch resin by bare hands.
Cleaning steps:
Preparation
Step 1. Prepare a funnel and a bottle for resin.
As a side note: This is a mix of clear and grey resin, and you can see the separation. So always agitate your resins well before use.
Step 2. Drain resin from the tank into the bottle.
Step 3. Leave the tank in the upright tilted position to let as much as possible amount of resin to drain. Make sure you don't expose the tank to direct sunlight or strong light from other sources. My lamps are protected with amber kapton tape.
Step 4. While the resin is draining, prepare a piece of tissue paper to clean the bottom corner of the tank from resin. Also prepare a surface to store the used tissue paper and other dirty materials used in this procedure.
So this is my draining arrangement with a bottle connector I sometimes use for draining of resin bottles.
Step 5. When no more resin drains from the film, remove the tank from the funnel and place it on a clean paper towel on any suitable surface.
Step 6. Remove the funnel, close the bottle, and remove them to a safe place not to spill resin.
Step 7. Prepare some IPA, ethanol, or water depending on resin, a cotton disk, a glove, a piece of tissue paper, and a jar or similar vessel for the washings. You can collect the the cleaner wahings and use them to wash your models after printing.
Never place your resin tank on hard surfaces, as any small particles present can damage the film.
Cleaning
Step 8. Pour some cleaning agent into the vat. Do as shown in the video. Leave it for a minute to let alcohol dissolve resin.
Step 9. After rinsing, drain the first portion of the washing agent into the jar. I am using this beaker to show you the amount of ethanol used for this procedure.
Wipe the corner of the tank.
Step 10. Pour another portion of the cleaning agent into the tank, and repeat rinsing.
This time pay more attention to the walls of the tank and portions of the film where resin still remains.
Step 11. Pour the third portion of the agent into the tank, and use the cotton disk soaked well in the cleaning agent to gently wipe the film and the walls of the tank. Add more agent as needed to keep the surfaces wet. Use both sides of the disk. Check the film cleanliness against the light source.
Step 12. Remove the wet cotton disk onto the surface you prepared. Add the final portion of the agent into the tank. Rinse the film and the walls well and drain the cleaning agent from the tank. You can the less contaminated alcohol into a separate storage jar.
You can see the tiny amount of ethanol I used for cleaning. Add some small amount soaked by the cotton disk.
Step 13. Now we need to blot the traces of the cleaning agent using the piece of tissue paper we prepared earlier. At this stage you can remove the glove from your hand.
Gently absorb ant droplets from the film using soft tissue paper. If you don't remove the drops or wet spots they may turn to cloudy spots after evaporation of the traces.
Cleaning is complete.
So, for this operation I used about 10 ml of ethanol, two pieces of tissue paper, and one cotton disk.
Step 14. Make sure the LCD is clean and reinstall the resin tank to get your machine ready for printing.
Step 15. Wash your hands with soap.

Wiping down the FEP with tissue or paper tower is the perfect way to scratch it. Use a microfiber cloth instead.
@3DResinPrinting
@3DResinPrinting 2 года назад
I would I agree if I had scratched it with paper towels. Paper towels get wet and, therefore, soft, thus leaving no scratches. But your suggestion makes sense anyway.

@@3DResinPrinting How do you clean the microfiber cloth afterwards? You cant put it in the washer...

@@mrthoreau5668 This is another reason for using paper towels. Just UV-treat and throw into the bin.

Never ever go anywhere near uncured resin without wearing nitrile gloves to help prevent skin damage and scarring, and ideally you should also be wearing a beathing mask with filter to prevent the harmful VOCs that the resin emits from damaging your lungs, and lastly some form of eye cover to prevent eyesight damage should the resin splash.

I recommend using a hazmat suit

Gloves definitely, but breathing masks are arguable. Studies have shown that the VOCs emitted are far below dangerous levels.

Why use tissue paper instead of paper towel? Does it have less dust particles come off it than paper towel?
@3DResinPrinting
@3DResinPrinting 2 года назад
Yep, I realy find this one (called Papia) very soft, not leaving any dust or lint (wet wetted in alchohol) unlike, say, the one u can see placed under the vat. And when shopping with my wife, we buy two different "brands", and now you know why:)) It also perfectly fits the width of the vat thus making removal of residual alcohol easier.

I noticed you didn't strain/filter your resin into the bottle?
@3DResinPrinting
@3DResinPrinting 2 года назад
That's correct. I use a collecting (slops) bottle and drain whatever remains in the vat after a print (a series of prints) into it without filtering. After I collect a sufficient amount in that bottle (normally 150 grams or so) for a new print I shake the bottle well and pour its contents into the vat via a filter, thus only straining once instead of 5 or more times.

@@3DResinPrinting Actually I may follow suit and save on filters, they are not expensive but it's a pain in the butt going through 3 a day and waiting on new ones to come. Less waste is always a good thing regardless of cost
@3DResinPrinting
@3DResinPrinting 2 года назад
@@DeusMachina71 Yep. And you also save time avoiding filtering each time (no waiting, no extra operations).

@@3DResinPrinting that's an awesome idea I will save my resin bottle to do that with. I am only buying the water washable type so I can leave the cleaning water in a storage toat that can go in the sun after a while to cure micro resin and be filtered with a basic particle filter and I find it doesn't give off the harsh smell of other resin.

step zero use gloves !!!
@3DResinPrinting
@3DResinPrinting 3 года назад
The problem for me is when I use gloves everything gets contaminated with resin, and I cannot notice it. When I work without gloves nothing gets contaminated because it’s more convenient for me to handle things without gloves. As I mentioned in the description, please wear PPEs you consider appropriate for your case. The purpose of safety precautions is to achieve safety, not just wear (often wrong) PPE. So I achieve my safety by not using equivalent that leads to contamination. On the other hand, I use good and sufficient ventilation which most users ignore.

@@3DResinPrinting what type of gloves are you using? is it as good as nitrile? I'm looking for alternatives, preferably something more reusable.

Without gloves, if you're careful enough, there is a 1 to 100 chances that you get resin on you skin. With gloves, the chance is much higher. At least, this is how it works for me.
