Thank you so much for this video! I thought my form placement was off because I kept getting lips. The only question I have is when the natural nail gets longer do we just let it keep growing or should we keep filing till the natural nail is gone?
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 4 года назад
You can do either. But the natural nail needs to be thinned out quite a bit in order to prevent it from absorbing water/dehydrating which will cause it to curl under the product. I prefer to file it out completely as my nails grow but it's completely up to each person what they like.

Yes! There's hardly vids on cleaning underneath, and yours are the best! You demonstrate and explain! Loove!!! So happy you did this. I remember when I just started to get my nails done, they would never clean the lifting under my nails, I didn't know better so for the longest, I only wished they did. Then I learned that it was done and boom, nail life changing 😄. The whole service is important, what you see, and what you don't always see. Hugs❤❤

Thank you for this video! I use tips with a gel over lay. I always use tips with a well, so when they start to grow out, I can keep my nails flush with the tip as I grow out my own nails. This time I had a problem, I had a month of growth and my own nails separated from the tips. I filed them completely off and down to just above the skin, smoothed out the well, and used a gel sealer to coat the underside of my nails to seal everything in. Everything else is fine, no separation of tips and gel, must have been the cheap nail glue I used on the tips, but since the tip is almost grown off I can now continue to grow out my nails with the gel on top. They look like a new set of nails! This video will be great to add to my collection of gel tutorials in case this ever happens again or if I just want to lean under my nails. I also shortened then, re-balanced and added a new layer of hard gel going by the video you did on shortening gel nails. Thanks!

This was really good, thank you. You did a good job of explaining how to remove the "lip", and how to make it flush, but the nail growth is still visible. I find my nail growth under the nails to be unsightly. Is there a reliable way to COMPLETELY remove the visible nail? I find that over time, I either have to deal with having ugly, stained nail growth that I can only seem to thin out (and not entirely remove, without a LOT of drilling, and other potential problems), or I just have to start with a fresh new set.

When you filed the underside like this, do you have to topcoat it after? To prevent staining or something?
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 4 года назад
You can if you want to but it's not necessary. Putting top coat underneath should be done very sparingly and carefully so you don't get a big glob cured under there and also so you don't touch the skin with uncured product. Use a no-cleanse (matte or shiny whichever your prefer) as well so it's easier.

Thanks for the video it’s very helping ! Really thought that I was doing wrong with the forms 😅 However I have a question : how do you prevent the natural nail from curving/lifting from the gel ? I do my own nails, have them quite long and really want to keep my natural nail under the gel, and if possible without thinning them out too much .. I solved part of the problem by filing out the lift and then put a very thin coat of gel builder so there’s no way it curls .. what do you think ? Much love from Switzerland 🖤

I had acrylic nail tips and dipped powder done 2 weeks ago. On my thumb nails my natural nail has separated from the tips. I’m so paranoid about getting fungus between my natural nail and the product. I used to do my own gel nails and after a couple months, my nail would start getting white blotches and my nails would separate from their beds. I would then have to take a break from doing my nails. Any advice?

I have a question that isn’t related to this video but i’m desperate to know. When you regularly soak your nails in acetone, does it leave you with “wrinkly finger tips” for days after? even without touching water? almost like when you spend hours in the bath. it’s driving me crazy and i’m trying to figure out the cause of it.

@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 4 года назад
Try rubbing cuticle oil into your skin before putting the wraps on. Acetone is extremely drying. That’s why I often promote overlays instead of soaking off. Also rinse the skin well after acetone exposure and rehydrate with lots of oil and lotion. If the issue continues try an acetone free gel remover

Thanks for this info, Liz. This is a topic that has been of interest to me, especially which bits to use. I bought an Atwood Industries thin z (carbide) cone, which is intended for using underneath the free edge. Is it ok to touch the nn when using the method you teach in this video? As it is carbide? Assuming that the enhancement is going to remain, and in order to prevent lifting/moisture/warping? I'm scared I will cause terrible damage, so I've been switching to a diamond bit when getting near nn. When you talk about the free edge becoming encapsulated, is this only when a form is applied to a short natural nail with tidy hyponychium? My hyponychium is always quite long and uneven, particularly if I'm removing an overlay and starting over... and makes it hard to get the form on unless I either leave a longer free edge or cut my nails short then wait until the skin has retracted a bit. I remember you saying in another video that it helps to brush the skin gently? Thanks for your advice and your videos, awesome as usual... and I hope you don't mind all the questions. 🙄😘
@mireille0115
@mireille0115 3 года назад
it’s a bit of a late comment, so maybe you’ve found the answer, but you can cut a small notch in your form to fit your extended hyponichium! it doesn’t have to be a perfect or precise notch, just big enough to accommodate the the hyponichium but short enough so there’s no gap between your free edge and the start of the form. that should allow your form to fit nicely under your free edge without hurting! :)

What do you do when you’ve been wearing super long nail extensions for months upon months, and that skin under your nail bed (that seals your nail to your nail bed) starts growing seemingly to accommodate the length. It doesn’t look the best and it’s honestly super sensitive and if you remove your extensions, you can’t cut your natural nail as short as usual. It’s weird and I’ve never heard anyone speak on it !
@TheNailHub
@TheNailHub 4 года назад
Hi I mentioned that. It’s called the hyponychium. You need to shorten your nails gradually. It gets longer over time to help support the length of the nail. And you can shorten nails to just in front of it and it will usually gradually recede.

This is something I am currently working and struggling with! I have to keep my nails very short (you can barely see the nail poking above the finger if you look at the fingerprint part) but my natural nail will always seperate from the artificial product at the free edge. I've been trying to file out the nail underneath, but I can hardly see the natural nail itself because it's such a tiny area. Should I still try to file it all off underneath, or would thinning the nail be enough? My natural nail is extremely flexible, and the artificial product is hard (because flexible product on my nails have always lifted, so I prefer hard product). I'd love your take on it!

@cherylw.3229
@cherylw.3229 4 года назад
@@angryswan36 Hi! Actually I get this problem with that exact product. I used Liz's advice on why gel seperates and chose Mani-Cure because technically it's the perfect fit for my extremely flexible nails. Unfortunately it will STILL lift at the free edge, even with Airbond+Tack. My only solution now is shortening everything when I infill and extend with artificial product so that my natural nail does not line up with product at the free edge (therefor not able to lift). It's really annoying, so I hoped that filing underneath would be the perfect solution.

@@TheNailHub Hey Liz, I actually took that video by heart and chose LE Mani-Cure because technically it was supposed to fix all my problems. Yet that little puzzle piece didn't seem to be the final one because I still got lifting.. I hope filing underneath would be the perfect solution when I infill.

But if you use nail tips wont thete be a point where the nails outgrow the tips? And them what?

Great video as usual. Nice to know it's not just me and lips are normal :). Is there a drill bit that I can use to remove excess gel underneath right away and not after my nails grow out. Unfortunately I tend to pick at the lips (nervous habit) until I remove excess product or pull of whatever little extension I did.

You can use the same one depending on how short your nails are but it's best to leave the extension alone until about 2 weeks later. You can also use a smaller diamond bit or smaller cone like this one: www.thenailhub.com/collections/e-files-nail-bits/products/rainbow-carbide-cuticle-area-bit. Just be careful with your skin since it's a tighter area when the nail has not grown yet.

KM diamond bits can be used in either direction. Try this one. www.thenailhub.com/products/ericas-ata-unicorn-cuticle-bit

Thank you so much for such a clear explanation on this! I have to ask though, if someone isn't comfortable using a drill bit, is there another way to go about cleaning out the underside??

You could also use C-Curve pinching tubes (the ones that have a diamond edge) but these are usually expensive and hard to find. Here's a pic of an example: drive.google.com/open?id=1HX4GSZ-p5BuZPyjBoascUAv3py9_ewOr

I'm sure you can tape a bit of the armor bands onto a c curve tool and do it that way,c curve tools are under 1£ from ali express.

Also you could try one of those pens with the pink stone at the end that might be a pain though.

@@TheNailHub what are these tubes? Do they attach to an e-file? If yes, is there a way to clean underneath if a person does not have an e-file?

Are the nails tips or made from forms? If tips what product was used to apply tips?

Thank you for emphasizing the importance of not touching the hyponychium. I get extended hyponychium under almost all my nails when I grow them out. I get some kind of injury whenever i let my nails grow out longer than past my fingertip. Now I know why! 😱
